Life at Relic Lore
General information of how wolves live at Relic Lore, such as joining and being in a pack, and the life of a lone wolf.
ARRIVING AT RELIC LORE....
When you create an account on RoW you are automatically classed as a lone wolf in Relic Lore. New wolves who are just arriving to Relic Lore will be a lone wolf, as he or she would not have a pack, and therefore are called 'loners', whether he or she have company on their travels or not. However, from then on, you have the decision whether to stay a lone wolf and travel the vast area of Relic Lore, or join a pack and leave travelling aside for now. There is absolutely no time limit to when you decide this, and it is your character's decision whether he or she stay in a pack they join or to return to his or her travelling days, or even try another pack altogether, however he or she will have to deal with the consequences if they abandon their pack. Currently in RoW there will be a maximum of 15 lone wolves at one time.
Staying as Lone Wolf is ideal for wolves with wanderlust; it gives them free reign with no ties to part of Relic Lore, however being a wanderer also has its disadvantages...
Pro's of a Lone Wolf
Being without a pack, and possibly without any attachments (mate, pups, etc.) means that your wolf can travel to any place, at any time and suffer no consequences. They have no rules to live under, no wolf to boss them around and are generally free spirits and live however they choose.

Con's of a Lone Wolf
Wolves are generally social animals, so being a lone wolf gets, well... Lonely! Without pack support it also means they have to hunt smaller animals and could often go hungry for days on end. A pack also supplies defence, so if a lone wolf is attacked and/or becomes wounded their chance of survival drops dramatically.

Living as a Pack Wolf
BECOMING PART OF THE FAMILY....
Being a member of a pack plays a big part in most wolves' lives, and the same goes here at Relic Lore. While some choose to remain alone the vast majority join packs. On RoW there are two ways to be part of a pack — either by getting your character to seek one out or by adopting a wolf already there. Any wolf has the ability to try and join a pack, but it is not guaranteed he or she will be accepted! Either seeking the alpha specifically, or else stumbling upon them in a thread are the main ways wolves join, it's just a case of getting the pack's leader(s) (ranked I.) to accept your wolf, which can only be done IC'ly.
Each wolf in a pack adopts a role or a duty that their pack expects them to perform. Typically your wolf is assigned one depending on the rank he or she receives or even their age (e.g. Yearling), however if your wolf excels in a skill and demonstrates this to the pack he or she could chose a 'speciality' such as a 'Guardian' or 'Hunter'. What duties a pack requires, and how many wolves they will want taking on the role is entirely dependent on the pack, so if your wolf is not successful somewhere, it may be in other places. All the wolf packs have a independent hierarchy for both male and female members of the pack, meaning that if a rank of one gender changes it does not effect the opposing genders rank.
However, more important than a wolf's duty, is their rank. A wolf's dominance or 'position' within a pack is marked by how dominant the wolf is, and how able they are at defending their position. Once a wolf joins they are listed in the ranks where their leader sees fit (typically either the lowest mid-rank or the low rank) and how this varies, whether it rises or stays the same, depends on the wolf itself. It is common for rank challenges to happen amongst a pack and it is generally how a wolfs' dominance within a pack is decided. In RoW, the wolves only refer to each wolf by their duty within a pack — there is no specific 'name' for a rank IC, as this is merely displayed by the wolf's behaviour — a highly ranked wolf would show high levels of dominance over a lower ranked wolf and so on. The ranks in these packs are solid unless they are challenged for — meaning that if a rank becomes empty it is not automatically filled and instead the next new member would fill this rank automatically in most cases.
Each pack within Relic Lore can have different rules, traditions and standards, so it is important your character is aware of these, however the maximum size of a pack is around 14 wolves. However you can expect your wolf to attend pack meetings and hunts if they wish to remain part of the community of the pack. Once a pack has been chosen, and your wolf accepted, your wolf has also selected the territory it will be living in, matching that of the packs. This means that only realistic travel from their territory to another can now happen, for example a wolf would not randomly go missing for 3 days to go travelling unless they have the pack leaders' permission.
