things seem closer than they appear - Tama - May 29, 2017

I'm thinking somewhere to the west, between Thunder Bowl and Trators Tor? @Fira
Tama had given herself another few days of rest before continuing from that eerie golden forest, leaving behind her new acquaintance. She had somehow managed to memorize his name and his lost companion: Mattuin, and Astrid. But Astrid wasn't her goal. Last night she had come across what could have been Kratha's scent, and so had pursued it with less of a limp. And it had led her here, where the tree line ended abruptly to open fields.

She wasn't quite ready for them yet--not the uneven ground hidden by thick grasses, or the chilling wind that tumbled recklessly over them, or even the sun that shone brilliantly in the pale afternoon sky. It was a cold warmth, a poor imitation of the sun that beat down over Saurfang's desert. She had found herself aching for that, for the coarse feel of sand between her toes and the dip between hot mornings and frigid nights. It was not an unpleasant warmth, but one that didn't match the idea of summer in her head: summer was berries and late starry nights and fat rabbits split with her family.

But Tama shook that thought away, turning back to the squirrel she'd somehow managed to track down. Bits of fur were stuck in her teeth, but her growling stomach demanded her attention. Vanity meant little when she was starving.
