Hawthorne Riverflow
The lovesong of the buzzard in the dogwood tree

She was growing more and more. As time went on Hawthorne was discovering more things she could do. Of course, she couldn't simply do everything just yet. Somethings she needed someone else to be with her. Today she had the hungry urge to explore outside of the confines of her home. Hawthorne figured she ought to bug @Emrys about it. They explored their home together so perhaps she could convince him to let her explore outside of their home. Under some supervision, of course.

Lucky for the Riverflow child it did not take long for the pale man to agree. She shot off into the Notch, leading the way into the unknown. Unknown to her that was. Hawthorne made sure to slow down if she got too far ahead of the pale leader. The last thing she wanted to do was end up making him regret taking her outside of the pack. This was supposed to be fun and exciting! Not regretful.

The further they strayed from the pack the more the scenery changed. The trees weren't so thick but there was still plenty of foliage around. Something in the distance caught the young child's attention. She could have sworn she saw a glimmer of something up ahead. "Come on, Em!" She hollered before running off towards the glimmer. A few yards ahead she broke through the foliage and found a creek littered with rocks. It was far different than the one they had back home.

The morning duties we're done early which Left the pale healer a few moments to himself to rest in the sun. He'd chosen a spot not far from the den in case Jynx or the children needed him for anything. Life was a little busier with Tyne amongst them recovering but Emrys didn't mind he was just glad the agouti had pulled through. He could imagine how Nauja would have taken it if it hadn't turned out so well especially after Ishtar had disappeared on her. He hoped that with Tyne's appearance it would mean good things for the notch considering their numbers were as large as he would like. They were getting by though and that was what mattered, the last thing he wanted to do was let Gent down.

The pale leader had closed his eyes for only a moment when he heard someone approach. His eyes fluttered open his blue gaze landing in the form of Hawthorne. Raising his head he wondered what the pup was up to, he quickly found out, she wanted to explore outside the territory. Emrys had noticed she was getting bigger, much to his dismay, and also recognized that she needed to learn what was outside the territory. She would have to leave for hunting and scouting once she was old enough. It was best she learn now with an adult along.

He quickly agreed to take her out and they were off. The healer kept up with her easily as she took off through the notch. It didn't take them too long to reach the borders and had soon crossed them. Emrys let her lead so that she could explore at will but he kept a close eye on her never letting her out of his sight. “How far are you thinking of going today Hawth?” he called after her once she'd told him to come in and took off. With a furrowed brow he ran after her, “What's got you so excited?”

Summer will end soon enough,
and childhood as well.
Hawthorne Riverflow

She stood on the shore of the creek as her pale friend called out to her. The girl let out a songbird light laughter. "It's a creek! Not like the one back home." She explained as her tail whipped behind her. It seemed the girl was taking after her mother with a love for water. Granted given her last name, Riverflow, perhaps that shouldn't come as the biggest surprise in the world.

The Notch child examined the creek. It was beyond stunning really. She noticed how the rocks seemed to be colored in a unique kind of way. "Oh wow." She whispered softly as she dared to step into the water. The currents were by no mean fast and dangerous. It was a calm movement that carried the water down stream. Hawthorne wondered if she could cross it safely. Her head turned back to look for Emrys. Would he allow her to attempt the feat? Her face twisted into a thoughtful look as she stared back out to the flowing water.

Ever so slowly she began to work her way further into the creek, one baby step at a time. Surely her pale friend wouldn't be too mad at her. She had come out here to explore after all.

The pale leader let Hawthorne run ahead a bit, he thought that she needed to have a little freedom while she was out. It wouldn't do her any good for him to keep her close, how would she learn? He could see the water before Hawthorne even reached it but as her lite laughter reached his ears he could tell she was quite happy about finding it. “Yes, it is and no it's not like the one back home,” he agreed with a smile, “You should remember it, one day it might be knowing this creek could help you.” The creek wasn't far from their home and could be an important landmark if she was ever in need of one.

He watched the child closely wondering what she was thinking about the creek and just being outside pack territory. His smile only widened as the next words fell from her mouth. He came to stand next to her at the edge of the water just before she stepped into the water. “Just be careful Hawth,” he warned. While he didn't mind her exploring and even getting herself into a small amount of trouble he didn't want her to get badly hurt either. If something happened he would be right there to help her.

As she took more steps out into the water he subconsciously took another step toward it. One of his white paws became submerged but he let her explore the creek ready to help if she needed it.
