Aponi thought that she must have done something wrong when the silent wolf’s tail stopped wagging. She quickly thought over what she had said and how she had said it, she had a tendency of offending people unintentionally. In this case though, the queen had no idea what could have possibly made the small woman’s mouth drop open. It took a moment before the Donata realized that it could have been another emotion besides disgust or anger and perhaps all she was feeling was surprise.

It was the smile and the gently shaking head that clued her in. Aponi wished the answer had been different, but as much as she liked to pretend she was in charge of everything she knew she wasn’t.
