Having said goodbye to his mate, Tagg had set off before sunrise that morning.  While he wanted to simply charge ahead and find his son, the veteran knew if he rushed he might miss something.  The ever changing weather had likely buried any clues that might have existed, but the tawny man had to be sure.  He forced himself to move at a measured pace – not slow, but not rushed either. 

The day was cloudy, but there was yet to be snowfall.  Tagg hoped it would stay that way while he was on his journey; the last thing he needed was a white blanket over the landscape to help get him lost.  He was good enough at doing that on his own.
