@Namir, @Cameron and @Maia might pop in at some point and make it a party.

It had been a while since he'd found much food laying around. The cold weather was killing all the plants and the domestic had been reduced to eating chewing sticks and trying to gnaw lichen off tree trunks and rocks like some big wooly deer. Even bare white bones were given a lengthy chewing, just in case there was some flavor left (there never was). His hunger made him short tempered so once again he had left Crash behind. While he didn't trust his brother with Maia, he expected him to uphold the sanctity of dibs, (if he only knew what had happened in previous instances he might not be so trusting this time, or any other).

Not for the first time, he wondered if perhaps he should journey north, towards the trees. If they kept on going east they'd hit a mountain and the last thing he wanted to endure was his brother's endless bitching about how much his feet hurt. Had he been more focused on where he was walking than the mountains that lay ahead, he might have spotted the gaping hole in the ground that signified a rabbit warren before his paw fell through the air and he thumped his chest and chin against the ground. If he had used his nose, he might have picked up on the distinct musk of a stoat before it latched onto his invading limb, sending him wheeling backwards screaming "Fuck! Fucking little fucker!"

Had he not been so thoroughly beaten for ruffling Reggie's feathers he might have thought to bite it back, and at least line his aching stomach. But he wasn't a bright boy. So instead, he continued to hop backwards, waving his stoat-leg in the air, hoping that eventually, it would let go and crawl back into the fucking hole it crawled out of.

Little Crow

Maybe she shouldn’t have gone around the mountain. That said, it wasn’t as if Little Crow had circumvented climbing altogether so much as she’d chosen to do as little as possible – she might have gotten out of the bog and the dense forest, but honestly? The fireweed hadn’t started to bloom yet, leaving only a meadow to entertain the yearling. She certainly couldn’t fill her belly on the grasses and weeds. Huffing, the timber wolf moved easily across the meadow, keen on heading back east, back over the mountain; at least she knew where to find food over there.

She might have continued, too, if a shriek hadn’t caught her attention.

Her dusty head shot upwards, ears pressed forward as she realized there was another wolf dancing across a rolling hill – curiosity killed the cat, but it hadn’t killed the pup yet, and the yearling went loping over to wear the boy waved his foot about aimlessly. Except this was a boy unlike any Little Crow had ever seen, for he had a meal attached to his foot. “Don’t let ‘em go!” she hollered, stomach informing her mouth that even if they shared the fat marmot, they’d both get a meal out of it. “Hurry!”

@Bash Had to have her jump in!

Having left Crash to his own devices, the woman made her way towards the treeline that Bash had disappeared through. He'd been in a wretched mood the last few days, the growling of his stomach as constant as the rustling of leaves, or the birds that sang high in the trees above them. He had to learn how to hunt, and she was determined to teach him some sort of skill to fill his stomach when she wasn't there. Mice would be a good first step, because well, birds were obviously out.

It was with this mindset, and a seemingly endless optimism that Maia followed his scent, a small smile turning up the corners of her maw. Today was the day. Unfortunately, that hope was short lived, as she came upon the scene. There was a stoat literally attached to him, practically begging to be eaten, and all he did was try to fling it off. Resisting the urge to slam her face into the snow, the woman called out to him. "Bash, bite it! Bite it and it will stop biting you!" Maybe the tiny threat to his comfort would pull the wolf out of him?

That's when it hit her, the unmistakable form of another. Instinctively her ears turned back, and her tail flung inward to rest underneath her stomach. Crouching, her dandelion eyes swung back and fourth between Bash, and the strangers paws. How could she have missed it before? With all of the commotion her focus had been entirely on her companion, and the other woman's shouts had been lost.

Don't let it go! Well he wasn't bloody holding onto it was he? So he could only assume she was cheering for the bitey fuck attached to his paw. He was about to throw another string of expletives in her direction when a more familiar voice called out to bite it, and he cringed. "You come bite it!" the high squeak of his panicked voice betraying just how terrified he was, but both women were far away and if something didn't give soon the furry little bastard might chew his foot clean off.

The first attempt at getting his teeth near it was a clear failure as he flinched back well short of his target, expecting Shazza's banshee scream to be followed up with a good old fashioned walloping with the nearest branch. He could hear someone getting closer when it dawned on him that perhaps the little beasty would turn on them and what sort of man let a woman get beat up by a ... well he wasn't quite sure what it was... some sort of overgrown rat? Jaws gently clamped over the critter, careful not to break the skin and while Maia was right, it did relinquish its hold on his paw, it then twisted its body in a way he may have thought impossible and began to claw at his face and throat with angry grunts and whistles. Taken by surprise he dropped the critter, jaw hanging agape as it fell to the ground and paused to tell him off, Bash's silver tail tucking and ears folding apologetically.

You bite it!

Well she would if she fucking could, Little Crow thought angrily, watching the larger yearling flail wildly across the open space. She broke into a jog, doing her best to get closer to the adult when someone else’s voice echoed with very similar advice. The dusty timber’s head jerked sideways just in time to watch the top half of a wolf sink down, all but vanishing onto the ground – whatever. If they wanted to be useless, then they weren’t gonna get anything to eat once they finally killed the little rat. She huffed, about to offer more advice to this ‘Bash’ when she realized he had the marmot in his mouth. “Good wo--”

She couldn’t even finish her congratulations before the older wolf dropped his catch into the snow. What the--!? It wasn’t even biting him anymore!

Little Crow bit back a scream of frustration as she sprinted forward after the critter, not willing to let a meal go so easily. Who knew when she’d see another one? She blasted by bash before coiling and launching into the air like she’d seen foxes do so many times from afar. It was something the young girl had practiced many times, and her fore paws came down on top of the little rodent – success! Namir barked and wagged her tail, temporarily forgetting about her company.

Sorry about the wait. I didn't realize it was my turn LOL

Maia watched the events unfold, like some sort of bad joke. Her eyes were bright as his jaws clamped around the creature. Yes! That was it! Just what she had been telling him to do! And then.. well.. he didn't actually bite it. He grabbed it like one might grab a pup. The woman thought he might drop it, but then the stoat twisted to latch onto his face. Oh gods. She should have said bite it hard. For the millionth time, the yearling resisted the urge to slam her face into the ground, and sigh. Oh Bash. He'd get it eventually, wouldn't he?

That's when the stranger took off, her tawny form nimble enough to make quick work of the offending creature. Taking that as her cue, Maia jolted upwards, and closed the distance between Bash and herself. The poor boy looked positively pathetic, his ears flat against his crown, and tail clinging hard to his stomach, as if he had just been scolded for the first time. Her heart hurt to see him like that. Folding her own pale ears back, and nudging the underside of his chin, she whispered, "It's alright. You almost had him!" A little bit of positive reinforcement never hurt.
