@Pip

If he was honest it felt nice having her tucked against him. He wasn't close enough to anyone in the pack where he could just curl up against them at night and he surely wasn't going to try that with Moon. She would probably snap at him if Tagg didn't and he didn't want that sort of pain in his life. However, it was different with the thin female pressed against him. They were simply trying to stay warm from the coldness that radiated around them. She colder than he was but soon he could feel her own warmth radiating pleasantly against him.

Solas tipped his head with a bemused expression to look at her as she shook her head in response to his comment. She couldn't ask him? There again was a silent response and it suddenly clicked in his head. You can't talk can you? He whispered at the realization. She hadn't said a word during their whole interaction. In fact, she hadn't made any sound at all. Was she simply unable to talk at all? It was confirmed with yet another silent response as she pressed her nose to his in thanks while her tail thumped beside her.

A small smile slid across his features. You're welcome.

If you aren't in a hurry I'll help you catch something to eat once this storm is over. He told her carefully watching her expression this time so that he could try and figure out what she was thinking. I'm Solas by the way. He didn't expect her to give her name but at the very least he could tell her his, especially since he had been kinda rude with his comment now that he was aware of why she hadn't asked.

@Solas

At his quiet question, Pip offered a smile in response and shook her head. It was a strange situation to be in, yet he was taking it fairly decently. That he had even allowed for her to curl up against him had been impressive enough. While Pip could imagine Kjell doing the same for another female loner, she had a hard time picturing the many others allowing the same. It took a special kind of wolf to show such kindness.

Or maybe she was reading too much into it and he was just as cold as she was.

Her gaze softened further as he acknowledged her gratitude with a smile. The male gave a poor first impression, but he was growing on her already. He surprised her further with the offer to help her hunt after the storm was through when he'd started off with a veiled threat for her not to steal from his pack.

Solas' introduction was met with a meek chirp - the only sound she was capable of making. In the cave, the sound bounced around several times before fading, swallowed by the roar of the winter storm outside. Pip tilted her head to listen to it with amusement before sweeping her tail across the icy ground. Another blast of wind from the cave's entrance had the mute shifting closer to her companion and dipping her head below his back to shield her face from the worst of it. He made for an excellent windbreak.

She couldn't speak and Solas couldn't help but wonder if it had caused her quite a few problems. A loners life was hard on its own but not being able to communicate would make it that much harder. If made him take a step back and think of how many situations he had avoided or been able to get out of due to the simple fact of talking and she couldn't do it. The stormy man wasn't sure what mixture of emotions he was feeling but there was a decent amount of respect floating in it that was for sure. Respect because she had obviously been able to survive with this handicap despite what had been tossed at her.

He could still feel the wind on him but she was starting to radiate warmth and it combated the chill. A chill he was noticing less and less as he kept his attention on her. Her gaze shifted at his smile and comment. Too bad he hadn't noticed early before he had made a fool of himself but there was no way he could change the past just the impression it had left. Hopefully, the offer to help with a hunt would do that.

His ears pricked as she chirped at him. The sound echoed around them as he stared at her. She had just chirped. Like a bird. At him. A large grin spread across his face as he shook his head in amusement. Why it was funny he didn't know but it was. Maybe it was sound itself? Another wind gust had her hiding her head against his side. He tried to force himself to relax but a snort of laughter escaped him undoubtedly shaking his sides. It was his turn to be embarrassed as his ears slipped against his skull, briefly glancing away. Solas didn't want her to think that he was laughing at her but he had never heard a wolf make that sort of sound before.

Sorry its just I've only heard birds make that sound before and I wasn't expecting it. He mumbled. The stormy man was warm now but this time it was because embarrassment and there was no doubt he was flushing. Glancing out of the corner of his eye he watched for her response.

Pip lifted her head with bewilderment as her companion began laughing. She could practically hear it before it actually started; the strain in the side pressed against her was evident enough and proof of his trying hard to hold it back. Only when he said he'd never heard that noise before did the little mute realize what it was that had set him off. His embarrassment was just as clear as his amusement, and Pip found herself sharing in the amusement.

She'd never gotten that reaction before! A curious head tilt or frown, sure, but never outright laughter. At the very least, she could tell it wasn't mean-spirited. To show she didn't take offense, the little female swept her tail across the icy cavern's floor and nudged into his ruff with a poke of her nose. She let out her own form a laughter, lowering her head as air puffed in and out in a silent chuckle.

He had been trying to hold back the laughter because he didn't want her to be offended. Yet it had still slipped past his lips and out in the air for her to hear. She must have felt it first since she lifted her head to gaze at him with a perplexed look it wasn't until he explained the reason for his laughter did her confusion clear from her face. It was still embarrassing for him but she took it in stride and her tail brushed against the ground as she poked him with a cold nose causing him to jump a bit. Her head lowered and Solas watched with interest as she began to laugh herself barely making any noise except for the breath that puffed out of her open maw. Another grin spread across his face.

Hey would it be okay if I called you Wren like the bird? He asked still grinning. That way I'm not just saying hey you. It was probably a little bold of him to try and 'name' her but she wasn't going to be able to tell him her name and he couldn't see any other way around it unless he met another acquaintance of hers.

Fade with your post? For future threads, I figure Pip will have already snuck out in the morning by the time Solas awoke. <3

Pip canted her head to the side at his sudden request. There were so many times she wished for such a thing to happen! Only a few had been brave enough to do it, afraid of offending her. In truth, the mute was always touched by it when someone wanted to give her a name to make communicating less awkward. It was inclusive and not at all offensive in her eyes. The name Solas chose was a wonderful one as well. And his reasoning for choosing it made her smile, too.

Wren. Like the bird.

Yes, she would love that. Pip nodded gratefully, tail wagging again. Despite his first impression, he was actually quite skilled at getting her tail to wag! But she was already determined to move on in the morning. Imposing further on him seemed wrong and...it felt dishonest almost as well. She still struggled with the fact that she was snuggling with a strange male in a remote part of Relic Lore while her mate was elsewhere.

The little mute leaned against her companion and nudged his neck gently once with her muzzle before finally settling down. They both ought to get some sleep while they waited out the storm. By the sound of the howling winds, it was likely going to be a very long night.

Faded ^^ @Pip

She tipped her head in response to his question and then after taking a moment to think she nodded her head while her tail wagged behind her. He gave a nod of his own in response. He was pleased that she had liked the name that he had chosen for her. It was an easy name for him to remember and he thought it fit her quite nicely as well.

Wren nudged him and then she settled down next to him. He watched her for a moment before he settled himself more comfortably as well. They would need the rest if they were going to find her something to eat tomorrow but by the time he would wake she would be long gone and all he would be able to do was return to the Cove and hope that she had been able to find something for herself. At the moment though he whispered to her.

Goodnight Wren. With that behind said he closed his eyes and fell into a fitful sleep that went undisturbed as Wren slipped out the next morning.
