this is what it feels like - Wraith - Feb 19, 2016 Random Event: Wraith, you've gotten your tongue stuck to a chunk of ice! (Caro)
His paws moved with confident ease through the snow. Since his arrival in Relic Lore, Wraith's explorations had granted the black wolf a better mental map of the lands surrounding his pack territory. One of these days, he had plans to head over the mountain to scout out the terrain over there - @Sahalie's visit prompted his curiosity of what it was like - more for his own sake than for any pack duty. Without @Craw at his side, Wraith took his time in covering ground on his way to Heartleaf Creek. Without an agenda in mind save for quenching his thirst, the male allowed himself ample time to admire the way the snow and ice that fell overnight coated the trees, bending the more spindly ones in the direction the wind had predominantly blown. Up in his mountains, trees were sparse and far between. Despite the persistent snow since his arrival, Wraith had yet to grow tired of the way the elements altered the landscape around him. Instead of unyielding stone, there was always trees and dangling vines waiting to crystallize overnight before melting throughout the day in a cycle he feared would soon break. There had been mention around the pack of the coming Spring and warmer weather. Truthfully, he wasn't looking forward to those days. The cold was quite comfortable considering his thick coat and he'd never had need to shed heavily in the mountains that always remained chilly. Finally reaching the creek, Wraith lowered his head to drink. Rather than slurping up cold fluid, his long tongue stuck fast on a layer of ice he hadn't seen thanks to the continuous flow of the creek beneath it. How humiliating... RE: this is what it feels like - Niq'x - Feb 19, 2016 thought this was the perfect RE for Niq'x to get herself involved with XD
[dohtml] The longer she spent in this stupid place the more irritable she got. Especially when she knew Pip was nearby but she couldn’t flippin’ find her. Her sister was the oddball out of the litter. While Blitz and Niq’x could be outgoing in their own ways, their little sister was the complete opposite. She was withdrawn and reserved, rarely speaking unless it was to one of them. However, where she lacked speech and social skills the littlest Mizuno made up for in her remarkable fishing skills. As much as she would rather have her little minnow at her side, Orabelle hoped that she was picked up by one of the local packs and being taken care of. At least until the sea princess got to her. She would do much better in a pack setting than she would on her own, even if she lacked in the vocal department. Desperate to find her sister, the sea princess was (reluctantly) venturing north from the lagoon. The body of water the Bella Coola wolves were currently denning at was nothing like the magnificent Pacific Ocean, or the river they made their home along, but it would do for now. It was still large enough that she could splash around — and even take an icy dip! — and fish when her mind was troubled. The fish here were not like the fish she was used to back home, but it was still fish: much better than the dry, gamey deer that her brother preferred. They were almost complete opposites but their relationship was one of a kind. Blitz was hotheaded and strong-willed while Niq’x was a chameleon: she was easygoing and adapted to the wolves she encountered. Together they made up for the mouth that Pip lacked — when the three of them were together, they were inseparable. Without realizing it, the sea princess was on the pursuit of more water. She couldn’t help it — it was what she was accustom to. Since birth she had lived on the coast and she couldn’t imagine life any other way. Sometimes she wondered if she had water flowing through her veins instead of blood. The thought caused a frown to form on her dark lips: her father had always joked that she had been a salmon or a mighty orca in her past life. Oh, how she missed the rest of her family. She hoped that the rest of them would find their way to this dreadful place — or that the collection of sea wolves here found their way back home. As she approached the creek the scent of another slapped across her damp nostrils, causing her muscles to tense up instinctively. As much as she wanted to turn the other way she could hear her brothers voice in the back of her head, encouraging her to talk to the locals. Perhaps this stranger new how to get back to the coast — or knew Pip. It was worth a shot. With a disgruntled groan Niq’x pushed forward to close the distance between herself and the stranger. However, the scene was not what she expected when she finally caught sight of the male. Unable to control herself an explosion of laughter doubled her over, tears threatening to spill from the corners of her eyes as she examined the situation the male had gotten himself into. She couldn’t believe her eyes — he had gotten his tongue stuck on the ice! Struggling to get a hold of herself Niq’x took hesitant steps toward him, her ears pressed to the back of her skull as a wide, sheepish grin unfolded across her maw. “Hey, uh — need some help?” Even though I nearly just pissed myself… she thought to herself as she bit her tongue in an attempt to keep her composure. RE: this is what it feels like - Wraith - Feb 21, 2016 Oh, Fenrir. There was a witness. Why couldn't he simply have struggled on his own in private where no one would ever seen such an embarrassment ever? Wraith realized he would never have such luck. Any potential slip-up he had made since arriving in Relic Lore had always been viewed by at least one other. And to make it worse, she was laughing at him! Of course, he supposed he deserved it for being so foolish. His tail lashed once with annoyance and he tried to peel his tongue away, resulting in a pained whine. "Nuh," he commented in an attempt to say no. With his tongue stuck as it was, his speech was heavily impaired compared to usual. A short growl at himself followed as he shuffled on his paws. Dang frozen water. After a moment, Wraith let his head hang lower so as not to abuse his poor tongue any further. "May'he," he muttered. If she could really get him unstuck, his pride could handle it. Besides, she'd already seen him in such a compromising manner. Asking for help when he so clearly needed it didn't seem to detract from it anymore than he had already himself. "Ipth yoo woul'n mehnd." lmao, he's trying to say "if you wouldn't mind" in that last bit. Also pretty much sounded that shit out and sounded like an idiot myself. XD
Re: - Spirit of Wildwood - Feb 21, 2016 There is a family of deer nearby. Hunt Opportunity RE: this is what it feels like - Niq'x - Feb 29, 2016 so sorry for the wait! <3 [dohtml] [dohtml] She felt guilty for laughing but surely the obsidian creature before her would have done the same if the roles had been reversed. Forcing herself for regain her composure, the sea princess studied the scene before her, unsure of how to actually help the unfortunate stranger. At first he had refused her help, his pride getting the best of him due to her previous laughter. Fair enough, she thought to herself as he mumbled a maybe around the ice that was stuck to his tongue. More words struggled to fall from his tongue but Niq’x was uninterested in what he was saying; she needed to figure out how to separate his tongue from the ice. The only logical thing to do was to melt the ice, but how? “Give me a minute,” she said absently, more to herself than anything, as she studied the older wolf and the ice he was connected to. She stepped closer, her mix-matched eyes narrowed as she tried to think up a solution as quickly as she could. “This is gonna sound stupid, but trust me, okay?” Her eyes were fixated on the shadow, her expression patient as she looked for another option. There was none: this would have to do… and hopefully it would work. “We need the ice to melt, so you gotta breathe — hard — on it. The hot air will make it melt.” Logic. RE: this is what it feels like - Wraith - Mar 03, 2016 She'd made trusting her sound like an option, but with his current situation, Wraith knew he'd have no choice but to trust in whatever advice she could possibly offer. The agouti female's suggestion was sillier than he could ever have imagined, however, the brute dared not question her. Instead, he began exhaling heavily, his hot breath helping to melt the ice holding his tongue trapped. Wraith could feel the ice crystals melting slowly, withdrawing their needle like tendrils from his tongue until suddenly he was able to pull free. The black male licked his muzzle several times, restoring feeling to the offended appendage. Once satisfied with the return of circulation, Wraith offered a grateful smile and wagging tail. "Thank you. I appreciate the help. I'm not having the best luck with rivers and marshes lately." Recently, he'd broken through the ice atop a marsh to the southwest, becoming thoroughly soaked in the midst of winter. Looking back down at the creek, Wraith frowned. "I don't suppose you have any thoughts on how to break the ice without falling through, do you?" The majority of his experience with water in winter included a constantly flowing creek from icemelt from the mountaintops of his homeland. Rivers and creeks were fairly nonexistent at such high altitude, though they were certainly the source of many. RE: this is what it feels like - Niq'x - Mar 03, 2016 [dohtml] She watched patiently, hoping the dark stranger would not think she was a complete mental case for suggesting something so silly. Much to her surprise he listened without protest. A small smile relaxed onto her creamy maw as she observed him, her mix-matched gaze transfixed on his dark complexion. It did not take long for the ice to melt beneath his tongue and within a few moments he was released by his icy prison. She gave a happy woof to show her enthusiasm, her previous smile only widening as he thanked her. Her interested peeked once he mentioned his not-so good luck with the wet stuff recently. A brow cocked in amusement as she attempted to adopt a ‘serious’ expression. “Well, you’re in luck — I am an expert when it comes to water. You’re lookin’ at the best fisher you’ll ever meet.” As long as her little sister Pip and cousin Nauja weren’t around, the sea princess would boast about her skills as much as possible. “Ice, though, is a little tricky,” she added with a small frown as she poked the frozen substance with an ivory forepaw. “Could use a rock or a stick to break it, much easier — and safer — than throwin’ yourself at it.” The girl typically stayed away from the ice back home; she had just been learning the basics of ice-fishing before being stolen away from the ocean. The thought caused an unexpected wave of rage to flow through her body, but she dismissed it with a quick wag of her tail. Whatever had forcefully removed her from her home had nothing to do with the wolf before her; Niq’x would not take it out on him. He was already having a bad day and making it worse was not on her to-do list. RE: this is what it feels like - Wraith - Mar 06, 2016 Sorry for the wait!! <3
The female's excited personality had Wraith smiling easily, tail wagging in welcome. If it weren't for her, he very well may have been stuck all day. Well, not likely as he would have writhed around and shredded his tongue to bits when he ripped free, but the black brute much preferred this outcome. "Best fisher? Huh..." What an odd title. He'd never even thought of attempting to catch the dark shapes he'd seen swimming beneath the ice. Only since his travels down into these southern lands had Wraith even come across the animals. They always seemed out of reach or too fast to catch, so he'd never paid them much mind. And yet she was able to catch them? "Well, color me impressed," he complimented, his smile morphing into a toothy, appreciative grin. "I never thought anyone could catch those buggers. They taste any good?" He supposed they would have to. Otherwise, why wasting any energy catching them at all. Her advice for the ice as well had never occurred, though he supposed it should have. Up in the mountains, he'd seen the power of rock and stone. However, up so high, ice seemed a stronger adversary. "Good thinking." The large male cast around for a large stone that would be useful and found the tip of one peeking out from beneath a layer of snow. Perfect. While he worked on digging it free, the Willow Ridge male tossed his head back towards the stranger. "Name's Wraith, by the way. I'm from Willow Ridge Pack that lies just south of here." He extended his muzzle just a bit to give a quick sniff. Her scent was like nothing he'd ever come across. It didn't even hold a heavy scent of trees - and they were surrounded by them! "Ah, if you don't mind me asking, where is it you come from, Miss...?" RE: this is what it feels like - Sylva - Mar 07, 2016 *waves* hey @Wraith and @Niq'x ! [dohtml] A small black wolf trotted out beside the semi frozen creek. Sylva had been quite curious about where the creek lead, she had followed it down into the regions she now called home and it only seemed respectable to find out where the soft murmurs lead. Soft brown tipped pricked as a low but cheerful hum rumbled from the yearling’s body. Brown pools were constantly flicking from one bank to the other as she bounced lightly through the snow. her black tipped muzzle twitched slightly as she caught a familiar scent and one that she hadn’t recognized Wraith?? She perked up with a grin, remembering the unusual male.
Sylva picked up the pace so that she was dashing alongside the creek, as she came around a bend she saw them. A large black male and a smaller, well smaller then him greyish brown female. The cocoa colored female gave a warning yip as she skidded to a stop a few feet away, simply to alert them to her presence as she grinned before yipping “Hey Wraith! Glad to see your still not dead yet, hows your ears? still scratching vigorously? Did you follow the murmur of the creek too?”
Quickly and suddenly her attention diverted to Niq’x for a moment as she looked the larger female over, her tail wagging happily behind her“Hey there! I’m Sylva, you are? i see you know Wraith? Awsome.”
[/dohtml] RE: this is what it feels like - Niq'x - Mar 07, 2016 [dohtml] “Yannoe it,” she beamed at him, her blue (left) eye blinking in a playful wink. It seemed as though the shadowy stranger was unfamiliar with her title; it didn’t surprise her. She doubted many wolves in this area knew what to do with a fish — they were all tree-huggers and dared not venture below the surface of their drinking water. “Good?! They are amazing, you’re missin’ out! I prefer them over deer meat any day.” Talking about her trade made her miss her family and home even more, but she kept herself composed; this stranger did not need to hear her sob story. “Takes a little bit of patience but once you get the hang of it they’re easy t’catch,” the sea princess added with a quick nod, her tail wagging softly behind her. For whatever reason, she didn’t completely despise the land wolf — he was talkative, like her, and seemed intrigued by every word that rolled off her tongue. Anyone that paid attention to her was good in her books! Wraith, she thought to herself, mentally storing away the name for future reference. The pack name didn’t appeal to her whatsoever, as the sea wolf had no interest in joining any of the local packs. She wanted to find the rest of her family and return home. This strange place was not suited for the Bella Coola wolves — especially the fishers. Niq’x did not know if she could survive without the salty water she enjoyed fishing (and playing) in. Just as she was about to introduce herself and answer Wraith’s question another arrived — late to the party. Instinctively the sparrow-coloured female wrinkled her nose in the direction of the newcomer, her bubbly personality instantly causing her eye to twitch. Niq’x herself was an eccentric woman; she was like a chameleon and fed off others in social situations. Generally, she liked almost everyone and was rather easy to get along with. However, this stranger — this Sylva — rubbed her the wrong way from the moment she opened her mouth. “Just call me wolf,” she huffed in response, her mix-matched eyes falling on the male once more, giving him a you know this chick?!!?!?! look. |
