When the only way is up. - Kyrie - Apr 13, 2012 [dohtml]
So where was she? The sky was clear blue with a sun shining so brightly that it hurt her eyes. She looked away from the sky, standing between the tall grass that was dancing in the cool breeze. Kyrie shivered, she felt cold. How, she could feel the warmth of the sun in her fur and the warm earth beneath her paws. Still, she was shivering like the place was filled with endless white snow. As if the time had stopped when she finally realized that everything she had was lost.
When the only way is up. - Bear - Apr 13, 2012 [dohtml]
The sound was unmistakable and so clear. The dying screams of a rabbit sounded through the air. Its high pitched cry brought the head of the chocolate beast upwards from the stream he had been lapping at. Anything could have brought the animal to its last breath and although the land was littered with scents of other canines, he had yet to come across one. With a shrug, he lowered his head once more and allowed his coral tongue to slip from his leathery lips to lap at the crystal clear, cool water. Thinking nothing more of it, the wolf lapped happily, enjoying the feeling of the icy liquid sliding down his throat and into his empty belly. Though he had hunted and eaten that morning, his stomach was already beginning to grumble about being fed. Water would have to suffice for now, he’d eat before bedtime.
He’d been about to head off when a sound, something he hadn’t heard in a while, echoed through the daytime sky. A wolf was close by. Obviously he didn’t know anyone here, he hadn’t met another soul yet and there was something in him, the dying need for companionship, that had him moving his great mass in the direction of the sound as quickly as he could. His long strides ate the land with ease, nothing stopped him along the way but as he neared the edge of the woodland which then turned to a clearing, he faltered in his stop and drew to a halt. His yellow eyes scanned the rich grass, looking for the wolf who had called to the sky with no words. It didn’t take him long to spot the white female, laying with her back to him, a stark contrast from the green grass beneath her. He had to play this right. It had been so long since he had really spoken to anyone else. Usually when a wolf, or any creature really, saw him coming they responded in two ways; running or attacking, usually the latter. Wolves were cruel like that. He had been in so many fights, none of which he had ever started but most of them he had finished. A few deaths were on his paws but they were accidents, he hadn’t meant to hurt them... but they were picking on him and he was fed up with being a punch bag.
Back to the present, he slowly began to creep out from the tree line and into the clearing. He gave off a bark, letting the little (thought most wolves were little to him, she was tiny!) white wolf know that he was behind her. He didn’t get too close, he didn’t want to spook her. Instead he simply stood there, his glorious brown body absorbing the sunlight from above as he waited for her reaction. [/dohtml] When the only way is up. - Kyrie - Apr 13, 2012 [dohtml] Kyrie stared at the eyes of the rabbit, they shined like pearls but there lied a death gaze in it. She didn't feel hungry anymore but she couldn't let prey go to waste. Who knew when she got to eat again. Well, as loner she didn't have to go after the big ones so little things like rabbits and birds were quite easy to catch. Being small had some benefits. Her eyes looked again at the sky. The clear sky was now taken over by some huge clouds. Well it didn't matter, it probably wouldn't rain now.
When the only way is up. - Bear - Apr 13, 2012 [dohtml]
He’d been holding a breath without realising it. As soon as the bark had left his lips his lungs had captured the air and refused to let it go until he had an answer. Would she run? Most likely... she was so darn small in comparison to him. Little things tended to run, bigger things tended to attack. He had lowered his head slightly, trying to appear smaller then he was when she had turned around and simply stared at him. If his cheeks could turn pink they would have for the way she looked at him, a mixture of fear and something else made him feel utterly embarrassed as usual.
He didn’t want to scare her off. All he wanted was someone to talk to. He wasn’t a complex beast, he woke, ate and slept like any other creature- he was no different from any other wolf really. Deprived of company for so long, he jumped at any chance he got to mix with another creature. So far so good, she hadn’t run yet. It was obvious she was thinking about it, but she had remained where she was. Silent, looking... judging most likely.
He felt a whine escape his lips whilst his ears fell back against his skull and his golden eyes fell to the floor. He didn’t want her to run away, he just wanted to say hello, talk about the weather; was it so much to ask? From nowhere, a voice tickled his ears. The sound was almost alien to him; it had been so long since he had heard someone else’s voice when it wasn’t shouting either ‘Attack’ or ‘Run’. Hello was alien to him, something he hadn’t been expecting at all and for a moment, he believed he was imagining the words that slipped from her lips. Curiously, he took a step forward and as he did, he lowered his form slightly to an almost crouch. He was so wrapped up in trying to make himself look less intimidating he hadn’t even noticed she had lowered herself as well. It wasn’t until he looked up again that he saw her lowering her head. Hello. He had repeated it over in his mind, trying to make sure he wasn’t just imagining she was talking to him. With bated breath, he allowed himself to reply. "Hi... I-I didn’t mean to frighten you." When the only way is up. - Kyrie - Apr 13, 2012 [dohtml] Looking up was already difficult, in the low position she was now it was everything but comfortable. Kyrie tried to sense any kind of dangerous or unexpected move so she could go and run. The problem was she didn't saw any, just when she thought that the big giant took a step forward. Anxious she sprang up and was ready to run, when she saw something very odd. She couldn't believe her eyes, the brown wolf had lowered his head. She still looked up to him, so actually it didn't make much differents. She felt suddenly a bit sorry for the big guy. How he tried to make himself smaller, what didn't really worked out with someone like her. Kyrie lowered her head again still alert, you never knew what could happen but she did make a little step forward. Carefully. She tried to look into his eyes, what was quite hard to do since they were staring at the earth like he waiting for the grass to grow before his eyes.
'Eh, it's okay.' She stammered, it felt not good to let him stand like that. It just didn't fit his image. So what did he want? If he didn't want her to be scared maybe he wanted a share or something like that. There must be something he wanted, or was she just so wrong in thinking that? Ah, she didn't know anymore! How confusing. Running away was so much easier, how long had it been she had a proper conversation with a fellow wolf. When the only way is up. - Bear - Apr 13, 2012 [dohtml]
Nope, his chocolate ears were not deceiving him. The little white female was indeed talking to him and although she still looked as if she was going to run away at any moment, he was a little relieved to know that not everyone would judge him so quickly. Of course, it was natural for a smaller predator to run from a bigger one; maybe if she had her pack around her she’d have a bit more confidence, but as they were both alone she was probably wise to be fearful. Not that she needed to be, Bear was about as soft as the fur that covered his body; he hadn’t a mean bone in his body and that included his morals when it came to taking food from the needy.
At her offer, he shook his head and offered a small smile. "Oh, no I don’t wanna eat your bunny.” he said with a smile on his face. His tail had been lashing side to side behind him and slowly but surely, he lifted his head as it was pretty awkward to talk with your head facing the floor. Her request was a little confusing. He might be big but he was in good shape, the advantage to being so big was that scavaging was easy and whilst he had trouble out running a rabbit, sometimes the sheer size of him was enough to freeze them in place. He got by, and not by stealing food from other wolves who were brave enough to talk with him. If she had run, perhaps he might have eaten the leftovers, but he wasn’t going to take it from under her nose. Nope, he had better manners then that.
Her question was a curious one. He didn’t want anything from her and wondered if he had said or done something to suggest that. He just wanted to talk. To know that he wasn’t so ugly or scary that someone, anyone, would give him the time of day. He had a lot of love to give and no one to give it to, and that really hurt him. "And I don’t want nothing from you. I just wanted to say Hi... so, Hi.” he repeated again with a rather cheesy and childish grin which just illuminated his face. He wasn’t an ugly wolf, but nor was he amazingly attractive. His dark face was kind, warmed by the golden hue of his eyes and there was something about his face that just screamed friendship and warmth. It was a shame that most others didn’t actually look at his face, into his eyes, else not all of them might have run or attacked so quickly. He didn’t look evil, he didn’t look scary or mean, he looked happy, he looked kind and above all else, despite the smile on his face, he couldn’t hide the loneliness within him. When the only way is up. - Elettra - Apr 13, 2012 just as an ooc note, this is after elettra's leave of grizzly hollow. [dohtml]
The was a rogue. The title was bitter on her tongue, never having fully accepted the life of a low wolf, a mere wanderer; a vagabond. She had no placement and no home, but she lived not without a goal. Her year in Grizzly Hollow had been quite a chunk of her life, though not in comparison to her time as royalty within the kingdom of Torbine. With each step, as each step before hand, she strode with purpose, with meaning, even as her destiny was yet unwritten. A fate in which, she allowed in no other's paws but her own. Her walk was a prancing gate, with each bound of low, powerful limbs, with each sway of the thickness to her hips. No longer was she on a mission for herbs, or yet another hunt for the abundant members of her pack. She held no duties for others, no rules or regulation to follow but her own and the woman now realized, nothing was better then to lead herself. Her blood demanded a placement in council, if not at the very head of the pack, and Alexander's accomplishments was a reminder of the push she needed to begin her own. Her time in the Hollow was history, and though she missed Jaysyek and the children, her decision had been made clear and she was lead to no regret. Her silvery gaze was hard, squinted over the brightness of the sun as she exited the confines of forestry and into the open blackberry fields. Quickly does the woman come to realize she is not alone. Though the scent of many rogues wonder through here, these scents are new and with a pause and a quick scan, a pair of wolves can be seen in the distance. One small and petite, quick on her toes and a fitting huntress. Another, large and brawny, with a meaning to guardian to him. A thought of recruiting had yet not crossed her mind, as the otherwise picky woman would choose her members delicately. She meant not to be abandoned so easily as Jaysyek had, and longed members whom she could trust enough to consider family within her ranks. Still, she approaches, cautiously. Her tail remains a delicate sway at her backside, her head evened with her spine as she makes way slowly. There is a distance between the pair and she begins to think that they are not acquaintances (or more) after all. As she nears, there is a delicately clearing of her throat as her head raises and she would pause a decent distance away from the strange pair. In her lonesome state, she could afford no more enemies then she already harbored within the Hollow, and for once, as a rogue, presented herself openly to the idea of conversation. "Greetings to you both." It is simple at first, but none the less, the bait had been tossed. When the only way is up. - Kyrie - Apr 14, 2012 [dohtml]
The big wolf shook his head and smiled a little. It wasn't a scary smile and surprisingly Kyrie felt more at ease. When he lifted his head she finally could see his golden eyes. She also lifted her head a little so she could look better in his eyes. She couldn't find some evil glance or something he tried to hide. Kyrie looked away, the thought that the wolf could be just friendly hadn't crossed her mind. Judging by appearance, what a stupid mistake of hers. What was she, still a little pup learning how it worked in this world? She was a adult now, when would she finally realize that? But she wasn't the only one to make this mistake, or that was what she hoped for. She looked probaly very silly and stupid in his eyes. However he didn't seem to think that way.
A unknown voice came from the side. Surprised Kyrie turned her head that way. Another wolf had joined the scene, Kyrie hadn't noticed the arrival of this one. Probably to busy with the brown wolf. The greeting sounded a bit strange in her ears, a bit formal. 'Hello,' Kyrie smiled at the black wolf, she couldn't help but stare in the silver eyes of the wolf. Such a strong look in her eyes, something she wouldn't find in hers. Kyrie glanced at the brown wolf, did he know her? If it was like that it didn't felt that way. Well she would see what would happen. She could better not jumping on conclusions again. When the only way is up. - Bear - Apr 14, 2012 [dohtml]
As the smile crossed his face, he noticed her relax a little. He didn’t know whether to let the excitement he felt show or not, he didn’t want to go running over and Bear hug her to the floor just for being kind enough to talk to him. Instead, he settled for a happy lashing of his tail against the breeze behind him. She was happy to talk and he couldn’t ask for me. "I’m Bear!” he said, the smile on his face growing. It felt good to get a chance to say his name, though he hoped she didn’t mock him for it. That happened a lot; it was quite a stupid name but he was certain his mother had reasons for calling him so. He should have asked her before he left really, but it was too late for that. He didn’t think he would see her again, not now that he had ventured so far away. He’d been alone now for a little over 6 months, wandering further and further away from the place he called home each day. At first, he had always known he could turn around and go back, but the more of the world he saw, the more he wanted to see.
"Who are you?” he then asked with a tilt of his head out of curiosity. He’d been about to say something more, he always talked a lot, when a dark figure slipped from the trees and headed towards them. With a quirked brow, he turned to face the dark female as she sauntered forward. Without realising, he took a side step towards the little white wolf, unsure of the strangers intentions, whether she meant to cause harm or not, to him or her. There was something odd about her; she didn’t seem as casual on her approach as he and the white wolf had been and when she finally spoke, her tones were strange; old fashioned, posh even. He felt a little out of place all of a sudden in her presence; like she were the queen and he a lowly peasant. Her words were kind enough however, a simple greeting and she had yet to do anything wrong- he’d give her the benefit of the doubt that she too just wanted to chat. Judgement. She would nearly smell it upon their bodies as she neared them, a critical stare of her pale gaze glancing back and forth between the two. Though they had seemed to present themselves as strangers to one another, already the large brute would shift closer to the small white woman, as though to protect her. The air grew stiff and thick, no longer friendly and light as it once had. It was but Elettra's approach and simple greeting alone which had done this, causing her lips to pull into a tightened line. Perhaps, they were uncomfortable in her presence, her words meant to be sincere, quickly shut down. It was these exact moments which reminded her why nearly all her life she had not bothered to stop to strangers for casual greeting. Her life within the nation of a monarchy made a distance between her and other wolves, it seemed. Her gut would twist, a hidden pain overcoming her. Perhaps she was doomed for a life of solitude: with no close friends, no pack to call her own, no one to trust, and no lover. Whilst Bear might of thought Elettra sure of herself, in truth, she was questioning the actions she had just taken. Her nobility often lead to her downfall but it was an air of power, dominance and leadership which she could not shake. She was born for such feats in life. "Elettra Archer." Still, her words would make them believe she is sure of herself, prideful by name and nature. However, as she turns her body away, if they had took the time to notice, an obvious emotion of 'hurt' toyed at her eyes. "Excuse me..." And as easily did she glide into their presence, did she make to leave. |
