A quiet rustle of paw steps roused the sleeping wolf. First, her ears flicked in response, and then slowly her amber eyes opened, blinking away the bleariness of sleep. She had awakened in time to catch sight of a slight shape exiting, silhouetted dark against the morning light streaming through the opening of the den. She could not really tell who it was, though she was steadily growing familiar with her new packmates' appearances. Skana did not like wasting away the day on sleeping, and there was no time like the present for getting to know her comrades. The old woman pulled herself to her feet and shook away the dust that had clung to her fur. As she emerged from the cave pausing beside the wolf she had seen exit. She was not the type to hurry, first taking in the hazy weather, and then slowly turning her scarred muzzle towards the little woman seated to her left. "Good morning," she greeted and lowered her haunches to sit. "I don't think I've introduced myself yet, I'm Skana Coho." Time stands still - Narimé - Sep 08, 2012 A hunting thread. She figured that the little brown wolf must have just been wrapped up in her own thoughts. "Pleasure to meet you," Skana murmered in response to Rosealia's whisper. Another voice from behind the two greeted the morning, and the old woman turned to see the smiling face of a silvery female. Skana nodded in agreement to Rosealia's assessment. She took a deep breath, the misty cool morning air carrying with it the first scents of fall. Beautiful indeed. It would seem a shame to waste the day on lazing about, and the thought of a hunt entered Skana's mind. The other female was petite, though Rosealia seemed old enough to know her way about a hunt. And even though the grey girl was just a yearling, Elettra had mentioned that she was an excellent huntress. It seemed like a good enough idea.
"Might you ladies like a hunt? It is a nice day, after all." The chocolate wolf's large form, arthritic limbs, and failing eye were not conductive to catching the smaller things a solitary wolf would live on. Her greater size and strength were much more suited to taking down larger prey, which weren't as quick and elusive as little creatures like rabbits and squirrels. Having fed well on the caches stored by the pack and her former strength more or less returned, she thought it was time she returned the favor. The three of them could hopefully take down something suitable enough for a filling breakfast, with a little left to stash away. Time stands still - Narimé - Sep 10, 2012 [dohtml]

"That's a wonderful idea." The tiny ecru furred woman smirked. Hunting was her thing, since she primarily hunt for three individual wolves when her mother was alive and kicking, and her father had to keep the his insane mate from running away. It was also when she had to rely on small prey and building up her speed every day. It wasn't easy, but now Rose looked at it as an advantage. Hunting for or by yourself is useful in a time of need or as a loner.
Heart racing with excitement, she glanced at Narime as she began to get up and shake her pelt. The taller silver yearling was bursting with mixed scents. They were good, though. She watched the wolf's blue eyes dart around with thoughts Rose couldn't possibly read. Long tail waving behind her like a dragging flag, she trotted forward and stuck her nose in the air, reading it carefully. "Where do you suggest we go?"
She inquired the two wolves behind her, wondering if Skana would step up and take lead of this hunt. Rose Slayer had never taken much control of these kind of things, but it couldn't be that hard. She felt her tail slowly lift in surprise. "Ah, the elk are already running around this time of morning, guys." She murmured, more to encourage herself. She hauled herself to her feet with more liveliness than she usually moved. Their excitement was electric, nearly tangible, like a current running across her skin. And not only could she feel it's effect on her flesh, but it was contagious, kindling a fire in her heart that had long gone unlit for some time. She was glad they found it a good idea, and could not wait to stretch her muscles and see if she still was as good as she used to be.
She lifted her snout to the air, breathing deeply in any scents that would give them a lead to some prey. Though gentle, a western wind could be felt. It wasn't very strong, as it lacked the force to carry away the morning's lingering fog. Faint whispers of other animals were carried on the breeze, but certainly none would be dumb enough to hang around near a wolf's den. Wherever the huntresses might go, remaining downwind would probably be most wise. Skana stepped forward, stopping beside Rosealia, her amber eyes shifting to the side to meet the woman's bright yellow ones. "We will head to the west, the forest opens up more as it approaches the meadow-lands. I think we will have the best chances of finding herds there, and stay down-wind that way as well."
She set off before the two, intent on leading the party. She moved at a ground-eating gait, quick but conservative. There was no point in spending energy before the chase had even begun. Her auburn tail streamed out behind her and her head was carried low, with leathery nose twitching as she probed ahead for scents of ungulates. Elk did sound good. She looked over at Skana with her yellow eyes, dipping her head. "Good choice." She complimented, admitting to herself that her plan wouldn't have been go to the west, it would've been to move to the river and stream areas around Sacred Grove, where prey was bound to appear for water during the heat and humidity of the foggy morning. Still, Skana had the probably most experience leading hunts anyways.
Rose started off full of energy, eyes blazing with excitement. This was going to be fun and beneficial for the pack's cache. Her tail waved behind her and she walked with a bounce in her step beside Narime, raising her nose to the air as they padded towards the west. She felt herself sigh in relief as they got closer and closer to the meadows. She was simply starving! |
