RE: the way our horizons meet - Piety - Nov 06, 2017 short one from me~
She bumped Wraith gently when he called Odin back. "I think he might have the right idea going on like that." The pale leader cooed softly to her mate before moving towards Cyril. She placed a small kiss on top of his growing crown, a sign of faith and hopefully a boost to his confidence. "Be smart but pick timely. The longer we hold off the more startled they'll start to get." Her muddy eyes looking at the herd in the distance despite whispering the words to her inky son. "Odin, Wraith and Cheedo on the final takedown? Me, Everly and Cyril for the chase?" She did not fret about Cheedo being on a takedown when the prey would be exhausted and she had two capable beasts with her. Although any other time she would have requested the scout to be on a chase team. With those thoughts said though she would slowly creep onwards, not taking the lead but making it clear they shouldn't wait too long. RE: the way our horizons meet - Lenae - Nov 06, 2017 [dohtml] Cyril would be okay. Everyone was here and she had no doubt that together they'd be able to take something down to fill their rumbling stomachs. It was a little strange, going on a official hunt with those who weren't her family, but the wolves of the stone were the closest thing she had to family these days. She knew there was a chance that some had survived but...she didn't want to get her hopes up,as knowing her luck they had all perished just like the rest. But that was aside the point! Her friends were here and together they could do it! Nodding along to Piety's words, Lenae was more than happy to join Cyril and his mum in the chase. They weren't as big as the others-though Cheedo wasn't either, now that she thought about it- but they could still do their part! Besides, the other three had done all the work driving the herd here, it their time to shine! Bowing down into a stretch, Lenae warmed herself up as she waited for the signal. She was ready! She wanted to run and chase and feel her heart racing in her chest for all the right reasons. "I'm ready Piety! Born ready, they won't know what hit 'em, or chased them I guess."She frowned, loosing her steam for a moment there."Do I what I do Cyril, mind their hooves, run by their sides if you can." She was his teacher after all, she had to give him some good advice for the hunt ahead. Lenae also began to creep along, using her tawny coat to blend into the rocky scenery. Like the leaders suggested, she'd wait on Cyrils command, but even so the sooner they got moving together the better. RE: the way our horizons meet - Wraith - Nov 11, 2017 Hunting Post 2/?; And let the hunt begin! Next round will be 11/24. Thank you guys! <3 @Cyril @Odin @Cheedo @Lenae @Piety
[dohtml] He wasn't blind to his son's sudden anxiety. Wraith remembered his own first hunt - the sudden responsibility had seemed so overbearing that he recalled nearly wanting to cry himself! But his father gave him a kind smile and he'd found the strength to remember his teachings to carry on. The black male did the same for Cyril now. He smiled and nodded to the boy encouragingly. For all his wanderlust, the pup was sharp as a whip and he took to his lessons well. And from what he'd heard from Everly, he'd been behaving well for her, too. Wraith had no doubt Cyril was ready for this. Now the boy would simply have to do it to realize it himself. As Piety offered the suggestion for strategy, Wraith tilted his head and considered it. It wasn't what he had in mind, but in all honesty, it would suit his paws just fine to have the chance to rest until they were needed. No doubt Cheedo and Odin could use it as well. He nodded in agreement. "Alright, it's settled." The brute looked out over the tundra terrain. Already, the ground was freezing, but there were still some patches of tall, prickly grasses. He nodded his head towards one such patch away from the herd. The others would have to lead their prey that way. "We'll hunker down over there and lay in wait until you all can lead it our way. Then we'll join in." He turned his gaze back to Cyril. "If you see an opportunity when we're taking it down to help, do so, but only if you feel safe. Got it?" With that settled, he nodded again and stood tall, tail flagging in a pleased wave. The moments before a hunt was always exhilarating. Seeing the pack gathered and so ready made his chest swell with pride. Wraith stepped forward to give Piety a kiss and Cyril one last look of encouragement before heading towards the area mentioned. "Odin!" he called again. "With me." There would be plenty harassing the herd momentarily. RE: the way our horizons meet - Cheedo - Nov 11, 2017 Hunting post 2/?
[dohtml] With the whole pack together the small agouti woman knew they would be starting the hunt soon. All they had to do was get their strategy in order so everyone would know where they would be. Cheedo stayed close to the group to rest and be sure to hear the instructions when they were given. Though she was tired from driving the herd to the Lowlands so they could hunt she also knew she wasn't done yet. She would have to push herself if she was going to help the pack secure one of the beasts for their caches.
A little rest for the moment could serve her paws well when it was finally time for her to move. Piety was the one to give the instruction on who was going to be doing what job in the hunt. Cheedo was a little surprised to hear she would be in the take down team since she was usually one if the chaser's. She understood why and perfectly fine with the woman's choice in where she should be. She would get the chance to rest a little more while they waited for the chosen Caribou to be driven toward them. Once Piety and Wraith had both finished speaking it was time to move into position. Cheedo followed Odin and Wraith to the place where they would be laying in wait. [/dohtml]RE: the way our horizons meet - Cyril - Nov 13, 2017 [dohtml] Okay. He could do this. He had to—he had no other choice. The ebony Kael couldn’t embarrass his parents in front of the entire pack; there was no cowering between his mother’s leg and letting them do the bulk of the work. This was a part of growing up, there (unfortunately) was nothing Cyril could do about it. Other than to join the pack in the hunt and select the best one to take down. He inhaled sharply, his yellow gaze sweeping the dark beasts in the distance, brows pinched in concentration. Be smart but pick timely. The boy nodded. He already had a few ideas swimming around his skull, but he wanted to be absolutely sure. His ears twitched at Everly’s words and he flashed her a crooked smile despite the sea of nerves bubbling up inside him. You can do this, he thought hastily to himself as he stepped alongside his mother, his lips falling into a thin line. Out of the three that Cyril had mentally selected one of them had a noticeable limp—it would not stand a chance against six wolves. The buck was young, adorning only half the amount of antlers, but something about it wasn’t right. It wouldn’t last the winter. The monadnock wolves were going to do it a favour. “That one,” he whispered to his mother, his maw flicking forward to single out the buck from the rest of the herd. When Odin was assigned to the take-down team he almost groaned. That meant waiting and staying still, and he was fairly certain that once he stopped he wouldn't be going again. Maybe if he walked there really slow he'd make it just as the deer did? But that was no guarantee, was it? His head dipped in a nod as Wraith called him over and he held the same steady pace he had been as he moved to join the leader. At least now it was easier to spot the targets through the blur of ones they wanted to avoid. RE: the way our horizons meet - Lenae - Nov 26, 2017 I am the worst, sorry!
[dohtml]Lenae watched and waited to see which member of the herd Cyril would choose. He was a smart boy, she trusted his judgement, but for her own curiosities sake she too scanned the mass of caribou before her. There were so many, so many moving brown bodies it was hard to even tell them apart, let alone spot a sign of weakness. This was why she wasn't a hunter, nor a scout, she he was far to indecisive. This one, or maybe that one? Or how about that one? Finally, Cyril had made his decision and pointed with his snout. A buck, a fine choice! Lenae was so proud, she couldn't help but wiggle her but in excitement as her tongue lolled out the side of her mouth. Now that they'd chosen their target.... the chase was on. Kicking off into a sprint, Lenae peered over her shoulder with a massive grin tugging at her lips."Keep up if you can!" She knew what she had to do, she'd danced to this tune countless times before. She hardly ever played part in the take down, she was too small, too feeble for that. But she was fast, able to zip between the scrambling caribou with ease as she narrowed in on the buck Cyril had chosen. It was all a matter of driving the buck towards the others who were getting into position, with the others by her side-or behind her rather, ha ha- she knew she could do it. RE: the way our horizons meet - Wraith - Nov 28, 2017 [dohtml] While the others started on their approach, Wraith kept up a steady pace to a dip in the terrain flanked by long tundra grasses. It was there the black brute hunkered down, amber eyes sharply peering from behind their sheltering foliage. He looked to the others and smiled, tail wagging with pleasure. It was Cyril's first big hunt and honestly, the father wasn't certain who was more nervous, his son or himself. He wanted so badly for the boy to do well. Not that if it was bust, he would think little of him. But Wraith worried Cyril would think little of himself. And the male knew he was far too young to already start doubting himself. Spotting the stag the others were narrowing in on, he felt a zip of pleasure. A decent size, and a notable handicap. At least the boy listened to his lessons! "He catches on quicker than you did," he teased Odin in low tones. "You are your sister were too busy arguing." "What about you, Cheedo? Remember your first?" Wraith whispered, eyes still on the hunt. And if his eyes strayed to the way Piety moved, well, that didn't make him base, did it? RE: the way our horizons meet - Cheedo - Nov 28, 2017 hunting post 3/?
[Dohtml] The small agouti woman followed the alpha to where they would be hiding until it was time for them to jump into action. Her body was starting to buzz with anticipation of the take down but she was a little nervous about it. Usually on the chasing team she was quickly finding out that waiting for her time wasn't something she was very good at. She'd taken large pretty down before with help and this would be no different. She slipped into their hiding spot in the dip surrounded by tundra grass next to her two companions.
Cheedo watched as the other members of the pack got into their placed to begin the chase that would lead their prey straight to it's doom. Her sea green eyes shifted between each wood and their target as she listened to the comrade next to her. She was surprised when Wraith asked her about her first pack hunt. It seemed like forever ago that she'd had it, so much had happened since then. Her injured ear gave a slight flick as her mind went back to that day. Some of it fuzzy, she usually did all she could to not think about her past. “Some of it. We took down a large buck good thing too cause I was even smaller then,” she joked looking over at Wraith. The buck was smaller than some of the Caribou they were looking at and now but she was a bit bigger than she had been during her first hunt. Cheedo was also aware of her size which never really bothered her and she made the most of it. [/dohtml]RE: the way our horizons meet - Odin - Dec 13, 2017 [dohtml] Where have all the good guys gone? Odin managed a chuckle, "Yeah, surprised we caught anythin' at all with Kara hollerin' an' givin' us away all the time. They probably come so close now cos they reckon the place is deserted." It quickly became evident which animal Cyril had picked out and as the herd swirled like starlings in the sky Odin didn't allow his paws to stay still. He had to keep moving or he would cramp and be down for the count. So he moved to place a bit of distance between himself and Wraith, hoping that they could come at the buck from opposite flanks and meet it with more teeth than it had bargained for. He would keep adjusting his position as the others moved to make sure that it didn't overshoot him and escape. |
