Gone Tomorrow

They were near polar opposites, these two wolves before her. The male, she doubted, had any idea what it meant to have respect for others. He spoke, directing his gaze straight towards her. She immediately felt herself tense up again and her gray tail, a proud banner waving above her back, was lifted an inch higher. She didn't like him, that much was clear. His explanation was not unreasonable, but she did not like his reference to what could be in a year's time. Corinna did not view Swift River as a stepping stone, and had he not held himself in a respectful position, she would have turned him away then and there. In comparison to him, the other female in the group said barely anything. A mere acknowledgement was given, and after a moment's silence, it became clear to Corinna that she, Rainuh, hardly seemed to be paying attention. What was it with these wolves, to think that they were free to show up on her borders, asking for acceptance, and barely acknowledge her while she did it?

Green eyes glanced at Ice, searching his gray eyes for answers. He, for one, did not seem all that impressed by the company they were currently holding, though she could not be sure. But her mind was racing about other things. Did they really need these two particular wolves? While there was always tension in the air when meeting strangers along the borders, this seemed particularly bad. And while he might have assured her they were in no position to breed now, she wasn't naive enough to believe him. They had chosen each other for a reason, and passion spared nobody in its pursuits. Turning her head away, she began to shake her head back and forth. "Perhaps you would do better to find yourself a home in either Grizzly Hollow or Copper Rock Creek." She was not unkind as she said it, but there was a hardness to her voice, a decisiveness. She did not believe these wolves had any poor intentions, but their pack was suffering enough instability at the moment, she had no desire to introduce another element that she could not control. Standing her ground, Cori waited. She would forcibly drive them off if need be, but she hoped it had not come to that. Making her chase them off was hardly going to change her mind about their lack of admittance into the River pack.

don't TRUST me - Ice - Apr 02, 2012

you do not know who is your friend

or who is your enemy

until the   ICE breaks.
His face was impassive, cold eyes drifting across the pair; slowly his ears worked their way up, stiff tail held lower then Corinna's. Sabretache's story didn't move him, instead he felt a twinge of annoyance run across his mind. The words held a promise of leaving, of not staying until forever; of not swearing to protect and love until your dying breath. Swift River wasn't just a home. Swift River was your life. He kept silent, though, forcing his sides to move at a steady pace instead of heaving out growls and grunts. He would stand by Corinna, whatever she decided to do with these strangers.. but should she openly ask his opinion, how could he phrase it? How much of it was spring clouding up his judgment and feeding his frustrations? Briefly she glanced at him, and he ducked his head, ears falling flat. The silence stretched a little longer and Ice watched, waited, breathed.

To him, it sounded like rejection, albeit a kindly one. But, he wasn't certain - after all, his socialization skills were hardly...well-honed. Unless Corinna stated "Get into my pack" or "Get off my land", he'd never be one hundred percent certain he'd understood it right. For now, though, it sounded like the latter, but he didn't dare to back it up with his own voice. Quiet he remained by her side, ready for any sign of aggression should the statement not be received well by their little audience.

Gone Tomorrow

While they might not have been pleased with her decision, they had no choice to accept it. Her decision had been made, and that was simply how it was going to be. Fair or not, being leader of the River wolves gave her that power. It was to their advantage that they decided to go quietly. No other words were said, but the pair departed. Holding her position until they were out of sight, she strode forward once they were gone. Lifting her leg, she scent marked the border, enforcing the line between her land and the land were lone wolves could go free. Satisfied that she had done what she needed to do, she turned her attention back to Ice. Smiling at him, she wagged her tail. "Thank you," he was doing well as a guard, and she was more than happy with his appointment to the position. Nudging his cheek, she bounded off, stopping to woof at him before heading back towards the den site.
