Archer's nose wrinkled as his stomach rumbled again. He didn't like that it betrayed him like that. He wanted to be able to be sneaky and catch the squirrel, and he couldn't do that if his tummy was making noise.
Ma seemed to understand, and offered him a choice: eat now, or wait. Archer's paws itched to shuffle on in the dirt, but he held still, vacillating. He really wanted to catch the stupid squirrel, but he was hungry, and if he didn't eat his tummy would keep making hiding difficult. Finally, with a last doleful glare into the tree, Archer sighed. "I wanna eat," he said in defeat. "I'll catch the squirrel next time."
He stood and stretched, gave one last growl into the tree, then shuffled off to find lunch. He paused to wait for Ma.
Next time, you stupid squirrel he thought venomously.
