RE: the warmth once felt - Jethro - Apr 07, 2024

She didn’t move away - thank goodness - but didn’t speak either. It felt like she should’ve said something, perhaps Jet would have even felt better if she’d gotten angry and lashed out. But that wasn’t who Finley was. He did, however, feel her tremors. Listened as her breathing became erratic, marked by sobs that shook her frame.

There were no words to be had or even needed at that moment. Jethro simply stood, holding her as close and tightly as he could without it becoming uncomfortable.

Almost all grasp of awareness and time seemed to fade away, leaving him in this moment. Cherishing a loved one, but hating that he’d caused more hurt. While he was distantly aware that perhaps they ought not be here exposed and in the rain, or that someone might follow and happen upon them, he didn’t care to try to move.

Eventually, they lie down, and while she would fall asleep, Jet would stay awake to keep watch. Or to occasionally lean over to groom his partner, and gently whisper words of affirmation.

--fade here. thanks for the thread (:
