He felt as she leant back into him and a satisfied smile danced momentarily across his features. The air was electric. It had been a long time since he had had such fun. The playful snarl was met with a small growl of his own as she slid along side him and stepped away, her cooing tone teasing his velvety ears as she added to the ruse with a wink. She seemed to be testing him, pushing all the buttons that could lead to a dangerous reaction from less honourable rogues. She was lucky he was so in control.

Confident that she wasn’t about to turn on him now, he feigned disinterest, honey eyes taking a moment to rove back over the rise, dotted with the last fiery flowers of autumn.
