RE: Riding Horses All The Way - Anastasia - Nov 09, 2013

From here on out they would all move en bloc; together. They were a pack now, through and through regardless of what weather was brought to them or the triumphs within. Working together was their main priority and to trust in one another, rely on each other and through Ana’s eyes, love one another endlessly. Anastasia did much of this with Lachesis, doing whatever she could to understand his feelings and doing what she could to make sure that he was happy. So far, she assumed he was thrilled to be a part of this just as she was. Something that hopefully, in the long run, would be a permanent home.

It was then that Anastasia was walking that she caught scent of something and before she knew it her eyes had locked onto it rather hungrily. “Maksim!” she yelled to the front as she had lingered in the back so as not to appear sheepish in her disappointment with who was chosen to lead beside him, “over here.” It was a deer’s carcass, barely touched and certainly a sign that these lands were bountiful for them. Anastasia smiled, her focus leaning from Maksim to Lachesis as her find surely meant that their new beginning was certainly going to be grand. In the stark beginning of winter, they were already getting lucky. Although she did not know Astra, Anastasia hoped that she was strong enough to lead… or strong enough to hold that spot until Ana was prepared to challenge for it. However, first, she needed to know Maksim held something for her if anything.

RE: Riding Horses All The Way - Astra - Nov 09, 2013

With the claiming ritual over, the small group of wolves has successfully made their presence known to any and all creatures in the surrounding area. Now there was no doubt that any nearby packs and loners would know of Cut Rock River. However, there was still much work to be done. There was a great expanse of land to explore, borders to set up, a den site to be established and caches to be filled. With winter well on it's way, Astra knew that they were up against the clock. The air was already crisp and it was anyone's guess when the snows came.

As their voices died down, Astra took a moment to look over the faces of her fellow packmates. She knew none of their names, with the exception of Maksim. However, she didn't plan on letting that last for long. Just a few days ago, when she had appeared at the borders of Secret Falls, she had stated to Maksim that she wanted a family...not a home. So she would make a strong effort, taking the time to get to know these wolves personally, so a tight bond would be forged between them. There was Destin, the male she had saved, and the two young pups whose spirits seemed dampened. She could only hope that they would recover and would not push them. Still recovering from the shock of being chosen to be the founding female, Astra flashed a modest smile towards the group before turning away. Gliding along the length of the river, she sniffed the ground carefully before leaving her mark. Unlike a dominant animal, she did not shift her legs in an authoritative display. As far as she was concerned, she was just another member of the pack, while Maksim presided over them all. Slowly though, her confidence would build. Astra wasn't afraid of taking charge of a situation should she deem the circumstances appropriate.

A yell from the ghostly female Anastasia alerted her to a discovery. Taking off at a gallop, while brushing by Maksim's side gently in the process, she made a beeline down a gently sloping hill to arrive at the other females side. There at their paws was a freshly killed deer carcass. Her stormy eyes narrowed in thought as she circled the body, coal nose skimming along short brown fur. <b style="font-family:georgia;font-size:11px; color:#385d79;"> "Well this is good news. Fresh food already." While hungry, Astra didn't immediately go to grab a bite of the deer. The scent of Lynx was fresh on it, and the cat could still be in the area. Hence why she didn't express too much interest in it. Yet. And there was something else that dragged her attention away from the freshly killed animal. Her head lifted, nose testing the wind. Mixed within it, was a distinct scent. Deer. Turning towards a small clearing several yards away, she crept forward silently, using the rocks as cover so as not to startle the herd. Gesturing to Maksim to come closer, she peeked her head up over the rock she hid behind. <b style="font-family:georgia;font-size:11px;color:#385d79;">"Looks like the rest of the herd hasn't moved off yet. This could be an opportunity to stock up for the winter. They won't be here much longer." She suggested, testing Maksim's thoughts on the prospective of a hunt. While the body of the fallen deer behind them would provide plenty of meat, it could never hurt to have a little extra food on hand. Just in case.

RE: Riding Horses All The Way - Destin - Nov 10, 2013

[dohtml]

The large male lowered his jaws, his own song fading along with the others. Destin sat in silence, watching the wolves. This was a new pack, now, and it was time to meet the others that made up this new family of his. It was the least he could do for them, even if he did not feel like he was in a very social mood. He had been saved for a reason, and that was to help continue the survival of Maksim's new pack. The subordinate knew he could not let them all down.

Rising to his feet, the McBain watched as one of the unfamiliar wolves wandered over to the river. Destin recalled the memory of the rapids that had grabbed ahold of him. His fur felt like it was still cold and wet and Destin shivered at the thought. There was no way he would be going near any large bodies of water for a while, and the 4-year-old shuffled himself away from the river instinctively.

A loud yell caused his ears to flick towards a female wolf. His body tensed, expecting the worst, but it was only an exclamation regarding food that the female had found. Destin allowed his body to relax and he took a large breath, attempting to calm himself. Paranoia was beginning to take its toll on the male, despite his attempts to keep it at bay. Suddenly a white female rushed past him, making a beeline for the deer carcass. Destin's golden eyes watched her, recognizing her pristine fur and blue eyes. This was the wolf that had saved his life when no one else had heard his cry of distress, and also the new lead female of the pack. Destin always made sure no debt remained unpaid and made a mental note to speak to her when he could.

The scent of prey drifted into his nose, and he identified it at the same time as Astra. He adjusted his body weight, and stood up, walking towards the white female in order to join her. She was right, winter was coming and if it was anything like that last one it would be tough. The male tried to form a smile and direct it at her, but he knew that it probably looked more like a grimace. His heart still felt as heavy as his fur did after being submerged in water, yet he decided to make the best of the situation while it was being presented."She's right," Destin said aloud, turning over to look at the green-eyed Maksim. "Seems like a good idea to go hunting when we can."

RE: Riding Horses All The Way - Maksim - Nov 11, 2013

Okay, I'm going to consider this a fade to black finish of them eating the carcass, simply to get this wrapped up ASAP so the ranks and what not can be sorted.

Throw in your last replies, please. I'll archive and lock this in a couple days <3.

EDIT: Oh look, another lynx murdered deer carcass! The best idea, it seems, would be to cache it for now. They wouldn't need to eat both. Hooray! Already stocked up on deer. Perhaps @Astra could start a cache and the others could help?

[dohtml]

A call for him was made for Maksim as he wandered along, by Anastasia, and he turned as his ears pricked. Astra brushed up along him as she raced past and he took off too, almost bouncing across the river and slowing as he made his way down the gently sloping hill. What he was met by was certainly a good sign: a fresh deer carcass. Briefly, the agouti leader wondered what could have killed it. He leant down, inspecting and sniffing the bloodied thing before he came to the conclusion that a lynx was roaming around these parts. It was foolish of it to have left its kill—perhaps the chorus of howling wolves had scared it off?—and now its hard work would certainly be consumed by canine instead of feline. Though, a lynx roaming around spelt bad news. The Baranski would certainly have to find it and exterminate the pest soon. That, or scare it off.

It was then that Astra spoke up, peeking over a rock and mentioning the herd not having moved off. Momentarily, Maksim frowned. A hunt? So soon? After crossing the mountain and battling the storm? Destin spoke now, throwing in that it might be a good idea to go hunting when possible. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“I don’t think it would be a good idea to go ahead and hunt now.” He looked around the wolves gathered at the kill. The idea of a hunt now caused the dull ache in his paws to throb. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“We did just cross the mountain range and the majority of this forest. I wouldn’t want to run the risk of injury.” The Baranski was sure, after all, that they would be feeling that pain in their legs too. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“Perhaps, in a day or two, we could track the herd down. For now though, I would implore you all to rest up and eat what you can now. It’s been a long journey, after all.”

With that he called over to the others with a sharp bark (he especially wanted the young Attaya girls to eat) before glancing around his members. Lowering his head to claim his position on the carcass, the belly of the beast, the agouti male began to tear into the flesh. Together, they would eat and then? Then they would rest. This was their invitation to their new home.

RE: Riding Horses All The Way - Hati - Nov 11, 2013

Well there's my awesome post. Muse dramatically declined with nothing to do but eat. xD

EDIT: Hey look, Hati attracted the spirit again! Magic power? I think yes.

[dohtml]

Once the dark male's thirst had been sufficiently quenched he turned away from the surface of the river and to the bustle of activity which took place on the opposite side. From where he stood on the rocks the focus of the pack's attention was not in view, so with a quick glance back to where they had all come from Hati bounded across the shallow waters and trotted towards the small group. Maksim was there, having been called by a pretty, blue-eyed creamy-white female whose name Hati had not yet learned, accompanied by a large brown male equally unknown.

The scent of the carcass which was already being devoured hit him like a tidal wave and within seconds the mute subordinate had joined them around the dead beast. Gladly he tore into it, bite by bite restoring his strength and comfort, tail hanging loose and content.

This was a time when he might have introduced himself to the strangers he dined with, but instead was forced to merely watch them, learn them, understand them without so much as knowing their names. It was so much a curse to have to rely on the alpha to introduce him to others and Hati would not be reduced to what would appear as a shy pup, looking up to Maksim with questioning eyes as if he couldn't decide anything for himself. So his eyes remained focused on the meat before him, bloodied paws holding the body down while he pulled with deadly teeth.

short post to get this rollliiiiin<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">
At Anastasia’s shout the boy ripped his head around, pale eyes widening for a moment before the scent of fresh kill wafted into his nostrils. Confusion was instantly replaced by relief and a ravenous hunger that burned in the pit of his stomach. Stepping to join his alabaster companion, the yearling allowed his gaze to wander to the green-eyed leader as he spoke. While hunting seemed like a good idea – especially with winter approaching, as food would soon become scarce – Maksim did have a fair point. Though the nimble healer did feel as though he was ready to participate in a hunt, he wasn’t sure how long his stamina would last. The journey over the mountains had taken a toll on the Cut Rock wolves and hunting would exhaust the wolves even further. As the wolves ate their fill Lachesis patiently waited his turn, diving in only after the puppies had their fill. Tearing at the still-warm flesh the youth struggled to refrain himself from devouring the entire deer.
Pulling himself away from the meat, Nineteen narrowed his brows as the scent of another deer reached his blood-stained nose. It seemed as though the land was welcoming the Cut Rock wolves to their new home; hopefully this was a good omen for the tired wolves. Stepping in the direction of the second kill, the boy called out Maksim’s name to alert him of the new discovery. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">“Maksim, over there! Another deer…” he started as he approached the deer, the stench of lynx lingering in the air. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">“Should we save this one?” While prey seemed plentiful now it could easily disappear with winter approaching – building a cache would be essential to their survival this winter.

RE: Riding Horses All The Way - Quil - Nov 12, 2013

[dohtml]

When the pack's song was sung, the sable furred girl lifted her weary gaze from the ground to take in the sight. Whether or not she wanted to be here, or wanted to be alive generally, this moment was a distinct one─the forging of a new pack and the founding of a future here. There was something kind of magical about it, even if she wasn't enchanted enough to participate. Her eyes cast once more to Cinder as she wondered what, if anything, her sorrowful sister thought of it.

But eventually the voices would fade, with them the notions of future and family and the Attaya trudged along with the others. Her mind was far from here, back to where it had been for the entirety of the group's journey, when the white coated female's shout caused a stir. Her ears perked forward and it took her just a second to realize what was going on. Keeping close on Maksim's heels as the pack moved toward Anastasia's location, Quil was caught completely off guard by the smell of flesh as it rose from the carcass. She might have perfected the art of moping, but there was no denying that the child was starving. Saliva collected at the corners of her mouth as she looked over the kill. Looking for a moment to Maksim as if to make sure she was allowed, the child slipped in between some of the adults and dug in without more that a couple of second thoughts.
