RE: Big Deer is Big - AtlasNytrox - Oct 04, 2014

Atlas, restless as always, had been out and about memorizing more of their territory. He knew he wanted to have all of it committed to memory, which wasn’t something hard for him to do in the first place. There was just so much of it that it was taking him a while to get through it all, and it took a few trips to the same place to really get it down. However, he didn’t mind it. Walking kept his mind occupied, kept him thinking of things other than what kept him awake at night and for that he was willing to do most anything.

He had been quite a ways into the territory when the call rang through the air, faint but with enough alarm that his ears sprung forward. The brute’s muscles tensed beneath his ashy pelt and his dark auburn gaze widened slightly. In a flash he was moving from a stand-still to a sprint, his long legs eating away at the earth like a hungry vulture. His well-trained lungs gulped in air, keeping his oxygen stable as his heart accelerated. He loved this feeling, the burning in his muscles and the wind tugging at his pelt. With this he wasn’t some poor back-story, he was alive. Alive, and surging to protect his new family.

Upon reaching the scene, he automatically took in what was happening around him. A large cow is what he zeroed in on, obviously in a foul mood as it was and with an injured leg to boot. This was obviously the source of the trouble. Next, he found Kova being led away by a young red female, about his own age and whom he didn’t know. Good, he thought to himself. The situation was much more organized without having to worry about the young boy in the mix. Finally, he turned in enough time to see Inali almost take a hoof to the head. His body went rigid and a feeling of anger went through him, sending him down to the action. A low growl ripped through his throat, lips pulling back to reveal a small amount of teeth. Just enough to show that he meant business. Atlas, when he needed to be, could be quite a force to be reckoned with. Those who knew him knew he was a gentle giant with a kind heart, but thanks to his father’s treatment he knew how to use every inch of his body as a weapon. Right then, all 125 pound and 5’8 inches of him was poised for attack. It said “Mess with then, you’re going to deal with me.”

RE: Big Deer is Big - Inali - Oct 04, 2014

speech

Inali was glad she arrived when she did, for her focus had temporarily zoned in on Tokino's injured leg. It had been healing nicely, but it definitely wouldn't hold the strength of his other limbs because of the lack of use. Until that moment, she had succesfully been avoiding the sickly cow's attempts to harm her, but once her focus was diverted, the moose had apparently taken advantage of the small mistake. Inali turned her blue orbs back on the huge creature just in time to see its muscular limbs flail and heading straight for her head. With a breath of surprise the woman acted on instinct alone and moved just in time before the moose's hoof landed harshly at where she had been previously. A shaky breath escaped her then, before she resumed her composure as she jumped to the moose again, leading her away from Kova and the new girl.It had been a close call, for that hoof to her head would've surely been fatal.

A growl reached her ears and her tense body relaxed slightly as she recognized the voice. It was Atlas, her friend and student. With both his size and Tokino's, matched with her speed, surely they could take this moose down? And if not, at least drive the sickly cow away from pack lands. "What do we do, Kino?," she questioned as she kept snapping and jumping at the moose, hoping to annoy it so much that it would just leave. Of course, her plan could backfire and she would soon see another hoof flying in her direction. That would definitely not be fun.

RE: Big Deer is Big - Kova - Oct 04, 2014

[dohtml]

Kova watched impatiently as the events began to unravel before him. He watched his father back away from the moose, and held his breath as Inali darted around the beasts legs. She made it look so easy. Fright was soon turning to awe as Kova watched the pack begin to work together. They worked fluidly as if well practiced at taking turns during a hunt. The young prince was reminded of the hunt that he had witnessed alongside Noble and Tokino. The whole pack had made short work of the deer they had easily captured. He wondered what they were going to do now that he was safe.

Firefly told Kova to stay still and he dutifully sat down while watching the scene unfold.

Other wolves began to creep out of the bushes. The first dark blur ran so fast to the scene that Kova wasn't sure who it was until the distinct snarling voice of Atlas rang out. This set Kova's tail to wagging happily as he watched the dark wolf join Inali and help to distract the giant deer. He looked to the stranger female with excitement now filling his gaze. Kova was proud of his pack, and he thought of them as strong. There was no way the moose would hurt them now!

"What is that giant deer called anyway. It can't be a regular deer can it? "

Kova asked the stranger before doing a double take and looking for her russet features.

"and who are you?"

The second query was tacked onto the first before the boys eyes strolled back to the forms of his family trying to drive off the moose.

RE: Big Deer is Big - Tokino - Oct 05, 2014

This is going to require loads of team work to work guys. XD But this should be the take down. Inali should be the one posting after Tokino with the killing blow in the next round.
-post order for this next bit- @Inali, Kova, @Firefly, @Atlas, then Tokino. K?

[dohtml]

Tokino spotted movement further up the hill past the thinning blackberry bushes. He could see Kova and the other yearling female sitting a safe distance away watching. This both relieved him and had Tokino wondering what in the hell were they going to do next. He supposed the others were busy doing other pack things despite the fact that he had called for everyone in the pack to help. However as the male heard Inali's desperate questioning for orders Tokino had to move farther back to think without getting hit by the moose. They wouldn't be able to distract the moose for long, and with only four adult wolves to go after the creature they were at a disadvantage. Tokino had never heard of his pack going after a moose with anything less than six wolves, but of course his father and the elders were always doing more than what was needed to keep everyone safe. Was it possible to take on a moose with only four wolves?

Can we even chase the old girl out? Tokino questioned himself quietly while gazing at the rogue animals hind leg. It was hanging uselessly as she raised it underneath her and supported the extra weight on her other back leg. The smell of infection was gagging and visually a wolf could see that her injured leg was swollen three times what it should have been. He growled realizing that the moose probably wasn't going to run from them. There was no way she could in her condition. Which meant that she would fight them off until she died or the wolves left her alone. But if I leave her to roam our territory we'll have to keep the pups to the den or with the pack and keep an eye on the moose. Even so there's too much of a risk for someone to get injured by her... Kino's thoughts raced as he watched Atlas take Inali's place for a moment and distract the cow moose.

Another, almost completely absurd idea ran into his head. Four adults might be enough to take out the moose if they could tip her back end over into a sitting position. Then enough weight on her would keep the moose from moving anywhere. If we can chip at her healthy leg enough to unbalance her then two of us can drag her down before she tries to buck. However that means we need at least two wolves distracting her from the front. Tokino glanced to Kova and the unnamed she wolf. His idea might work, but it would be insanely risky. He could lose Kova... Not if he obeys orders like he always has... Tokino felt butterflies dance in his chest as he summoned up the courage to test out his sons ability to follow orders.

New girl! Come here and take my place! Help Inali and Atlas! Tokino flagged her over before loping towards his son. The safest place, ironically would be right in front of the moose once they got her down into a sitting position. As long as he stayed behind Inali and continued to help her distract the moose with his high pitched barking. That's if he has the guts for it. Tokino would understand if the boy chickened out. He wasn't supposed to be helping the pack with anything at his age.

Kova... Would you help your father out with this? If you're afraid you don't have to, and honestly...I would rather you not help at all. However this moose can hurt our family if we let it wander through the territory. He licked the boys crown before looking over his physique. He would be fast enough to move back if the moose began to creep forward with the other wolves attached. He was sure of it.

I need you to follow orders. Like you always have, but even more so right now. You see where Inali is and how she's snarling and growling at the beast? How she and Atlas stay just out of reach from the moose? I want you to be at least five of your wolf lengths farther from the moose than she is. (about twenty feet away) Then I want you to snarl at, howl, or kick stones at the moose and keep its attention on you. A boobook hooted in the distance but its call was drowned out by the fight snarls of wolves below Tokino. He wasn't using a light voice as he spoke to the pup. He was using the authoritative tone that he used when Kova was either in trouble or about to do something naughty. He was being utterly serious, and he hoped that Kova would take notice.

If that moose takes one step closer you take two steps back, you understand me boy. Tokino looked over the child before sighing. His chest felt like it was about to explode. Everything in him told him to let the boy stay in the safer area away from the activity. If I see anyone else from the pack come back, or if they tell you to get away then you come right back up here and watch. Okay Kova? Be a good boy and don't do anything but what we order you to do. He explained before strolling forward back to the mess below them under the hill. Tokino half hoped the boy wouldn't follow as he made his way down to the others then began shouting the plan.

Inali! You and Kova will distract the moose! Stay well away from her hooves and make sure Kova stays behind you at all times! New girl! I want you going around the back and begin attacking the moose's good leg! Your faster and can dodge the beast if she bucks! Atlas will attack the cows bad leg! Once she falls on her rump Atlas and I will latch on and add our weights so she can't stand up again. Then new girl and Inali go after her throat! You got it guys! Tokino snarled the orders as he approached the moose a second time waiting for the others to start doing their individual tasks. He wasn't going to be of any use as a dead weight until the moose's rear end was brought down. Then he could use his own weight to keep her sitting down.

Inali and Atlas kept the moose succesfully distracted as Tokino loped to wherever he was going, calling the new girl to come and aid them. He came back and started shouting out instructions. Finally, a plan, she thought with relief. But she couldn't help but wonder at the genius of the plan when Tokino was sending his own son into the wild commotion. But she trusted Tokino to think and make good decisions. He was wise and knew what he was doing. She stayed in her position at the front, watching everyone separate into their own roles as well. She heeded Kino's demands, avoiding the moose's hoofs as they swung down at her. With quick steps and measured movements she jumped and snarled and the sick cow, easily sidestepping the cow's counterattacks. Her attention was on the cow but every couple of moments she would run her gaze towards Kova making sure he kept away from harm and stayed behind her. If he moved one muscle in the moose's direction, the boy would have to deal with a snappish Inali.

She was like an aunt of sorts to the children, or at least she considered herself to be, and she knew Kova was a smart boy. He would be able to tell the level of danger, even at his age, and know to heed his father's instructions. Right? Either way, she would keep a sharp eye on the boy as much as she could in the current circumstances. The moose heaved upwards once again at the same time that Inali jumped and snarled at the cow and Inali landed and turned away just in time to miss the well aimed kick of the moose'a hoof. That had been a close one.

RE: Big Deer is Big - Kova - Oct 05, 2014

[dohtml]

Kova watched as Tokino began to shout for Firefly to take his place. Then his curious blue orbs followed the mans silver shape up the hill towards him. What was going on?

Kova stood aghast at what his father was telling him to do. Nodding harshly to Tokino's words and looking back down the hill to that thing he called a moose, Kova's eyes widened in fear again. However just like when his mother had rained down her dominance and commands on him during his first meeting with a loner, the boy stuck out his chest and shoved away the aching fear. The only sign that he was afraid came from his tail as it curled upwards against his belly.

Go to Inali and stay way back behind her... Then bark and snarl and throw sticks or rocks at the ...moose... And duh dad of course I will back away from it if it comes closer. I don't want that thing anywhere near me. He nodded to himself before taking in the fear in his fathers own voice. He really didn't want Kova helping, and the boy could tell that Kino thought he couldn't handle this situation. As Tokino swept back down the hill to start shouting orders Kova paused debating on following. He wouldn't ask for help unless he really needed it. With that in mind the growing gray child rounded the hill and approached where Inali was. As he approached he picked up small sticks and stashed them in his mouth. He kicked a pebble along with him then set down his stash by the pebble when the moose brought its hoof down practically shaking the earth. Kova froze for a second then looked up at the beast. She was angry and hurt; even the young wolf could smell her injury. Then, staying well behind Inali, (father back than he actually should have 22ft) Kova let a growling snarl echo out of his mouth. His jaws snapped at the air as the tall pup copied Inali. However as Kova judged the distance between he and the moose,he realized that he wouldn't be able to throw most of the things he brought with him. The pebble he might manage but nothing else. So instead he focused on being as loud and annoying as possible. Which was what pups were usually good at.

"STINKY MOUSE DUNG! GIANT MONSTER OF DEATH! YOU'RE GOING DOWN!!! AOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Kova hurled his own expletives at the moose succeeding to take her attention away from Tokino and the wolves who got into their positions. As the cow bellowed back and took two steps towards him Kova bounced backwards tumbling over his pile of sticks. However he was so far back anyway that the moose would have had to take five or six of its own large steps to reach him. The child recovered himself before looking to see how Inali was then resuming his howling and snarling. He was easily louder than the other wolves present. With his high pitched voice. Even as his voice started hurting Kova continued until the job was done.

RE: Big Deer is Big - Firefly - Oct 05, 2014

Fly had gotten Kova to safety and was debating if she needed to leave the pup there and go help Tokino and the she-wolf who had shown up. Her worry was eased as a large ashy male wolf also appeared by her leader's side. Her mind was starting to lean towards the decision of staying with Kova when she saw the silver pelted alpha heading for her. She was shocked when the alpha flagged her over and ordered her to take his place and help Inali and Atlas. Without hesitation, Fly complied and darted back towards the moose. Atlas was large and Inali was fast and between the two of them the situate seemed under control. At first Fly focused her efforts on simply distracting the moose so that Inali and Atlas could get in to attack. However, it wasn't long before Kova and his father headed over to join them. Fly was shocked that her leader was bringing his young son so close to an angry moose, and in her state of shock the moose almost landed a blow on her. Luckily, Fly dodged just in time and her focus was brought back to the fight at hand. She had to trust that her leader would not put his son in any kind of unnecessary danger.

Fly was relieved to here her leader giving orders for the attack and quickly began to carry out her assignment. As Inali and Kova stayed in front of the moose to distract her, Fly darted to the side and stealthily snuck around towards the moose's rear. Once she saw an opportunity, she darted in and nipped at the moose's back leg. The moose angrily bucked her back leg but Fly easily dodged the attack. It was a poor attack because the moose had to be careful to work around her bad leg. Confident that she could dodge the attack again, Fly darted in again, more determined and made sure to sink her teeth into the leg and bite down hard. Fly was very satisfied to taste blood on her tongue and could feel the excitement of a challenging hunt giving her more energy. She let go just in time as the moose bucked again and took a few paces back and quickly glanced at her pack mates to make sure everyone was alright. Surely, the moose would fall onto her rear once Atlas aggravated her bad leg now that even her good leg was bleeding. Fly was beginning to feel confident that they would take down this angry moose.

RE: Big Deer is Big - AtlasNytrox - Oct 06, 2014

Atlas listened with rapt attention as the orders were given, faltering for a moment as he ordered Inali and Kova to both help distract the hormonal cow. For a second, he doubted the judgment of the Alpha male but knew that he would never put his child in harm’s way if he thought he couldn’t handle it. Kova, Atlas knew, was a smart young boy even at his age. He reminded Atlas much of himself, in fact. However, the ashy male decided he would do his best to split his attention between his job and his young friend to be sure that nothing would happen. If he had to, he would throw himself in between the moose and Kova to keep him out of danger.

Turning he laid his gaze on the injured leg of their target, which was curled up and off the ground. It looked oddly swollen and one could see foggy looking liquid crusting on the outside of the wound, which was a clear sign of infection. If they did, somehow, manage to take down the large mammal they should be sure to steer clear of the leg altogether. Even though it was food, it wasn’t worth one of the members getting sick over. He dodged and barked, his woof loud and baritone like his own voice, waiting for the right timing to launch his attack. Finding I after a few moments when one of them had managed to get it turned at an angle, he lunged and opened his maw wide. With canines flashing he bit in the muscle, ripping another sour tasting wound in the bad leg of the cow. She let out a pained moo(I think it’s called mooing what they do lol idk) turned kind of roar and bucked, catching Atlas by slight surprise. He dodged, but even though he was quick for his size he wasn’t quite quick enough was clipped slightly at the shoulder by the edge of the hoof. To others, it might have hurt far worse than what he felt, but years of being beaten by his father and the training he’d went through left him feeling invigorated by the pain it caused. Rounding, he waited for another chance to attack.

How the moose is laying-> http://www.washingtonpost.com/rf/image_2048w/2010-2019/WashingtonPost/2013/08/08/Health-Environment-Science/Images/AP081116083924.jpg
[dohtml]

The moose was proving to its species credit that it still had a lot of stamina despite the injuries and harassment of the wolves. Tokino occasionally dived in to go after that injured leg the moose had seeing as she couldn't really move it too much to kick outwards at him, but for the most part he saved his strength and waited for just the right moment. The moose had lost her cool intimidating demeanor after the appearance of his pack mates. Instead she was now fighting desperately with her eyes rolling and bellow after bellow huffed past her wide brown lips. Every time he backed up to give his leg a rest Tokino kept an eye on Kova. The boys voice was rather annoying even to the father, and it was then that Tokino was glad that Kova hadn't thrown any kind of tantrum as of yet. However while looking at the young pup Tokino couldn't help but feel scared beyond his wits. He needed to end this, and end this now. Before Kova got too cocky and too close to Inali or the moose and messed things up.

Casting his hard icy gaze back to the moose hind end, Kino watched his pack mates work the large animal. He watched Inali as she carefully avoided hooves, saw Atlas have a close call, and spotted Firefly who seemed to be more determined than the rest. Her jaws had scored on the mooses good leg, but she didn't have the strength to cut to the tendon and bring the large animal down. However there was a good injury there now. He couldn't help noticing that everyone, including himself, was worried about Kova. It distracted them from the task at paw.

Atlas and new girl don't be distracted by the boy! The faster we bring this down the safer he'll be! Inali's got him safe BEHIND her! He called out to the two wolves before looking back to the moose as it struggled. He noticed that the moose was using both its front legs to attack Inali and whoever got too close to it's sides. That meant that it was balancing on two legs at certain times. Either both left legs or one right and one left were always touching the ground. He had an idea then, but it would use up much of his strength to do it. Tokino only hoped that he had enough of his strength back for the plan to work.

Getting into position closer to the good leg of the moose, Tokino waited for the exact moment that the animal lifted it's right front leg to attck; leaving both left legs to precariously balance it on the ground. As soon as he spotted that moment, Tokino dashed forward and using all his strength snapped down onto the moose's tendon in its good leg. He could feel the leg buckle under his bite as he fangs scraped the tendon, and when it's body began falling towards him Tokino released to get the hell out of dodge.

His tail and rear end were hit by the moose's falling rear,h was barely able to squeeze out from under it before turning around with a sharp yelp saying, Don't let her up! Inali! New Girl! get at her throat kill this beast! Tokino pounced onto the moose's rear adding his own weight and tugging at her firm thick skin to keep the thing from trying to get up.

Permission to pp Firefly :)

speech

The moose bellowed in panic, fighting for her life. There was too many of them, Inali knew that there was no way this moose could escape. She flinched as she heard Kova, his high pitched tone the cause of it. He was so not adorable when he was being intentionally annoying. Everyone put in their part as she watched as Tokino jumped in and out of the fray, more than likely waiting for his chance to finally bring the vicious animal down. Her blue orbs were concentrated on the cow's hoofs and making sure that Kova stayed behind her, so she didnt see when Tokino finally layed his blow. But boy, did she hear it. The moaning of the beast caught her attention as it fell, not able to balance itself and she watched as Tokino narrowly avoided getting flattened. She jumped as he yelled his orders to her and the new subordinate, but nevertheless did as she was told.

Her and Firefly immediately went on each side of the throat, not letting the moose have a chance to maybe regain her strength and balance. The opportunity was too good to waste. The cow tried to shake them off, but they held on too tight. The moose slowly stopped struggling, nearing death and letting exhaustion take over. Inali let go, letting Firefly take the lead for just a second as she focused her trained blue orbs on one specific part of the neck. In a flash, the woman opened her jaws and bit deep, letting her sharp canines dig right into the jugular vein. The moose bled out in minutes, her body succumbing to its wounds and the impact to the important vein. It was done, finally.
