RE: a leaf upon the breeze - Namid - Apr 25, 2015 [dohtml] The man seemed to take her bait, a faint interest showing in his gaze as she described her lands and the pack wolves within them. He took a step toward her, and instinctively she took a step back. She wouldn’t take any chances with the children growing in her stomach, especially not with a brutal looking man with no background that she knew of. No, she would keep the distance between then just as it was. She shot him a look that said as much, asking him to keep their space a respectable bit a part as she suspected he’d oblige. His movement had only been out of curiosity, not interest to get closer to her. His question about Vespertio made her pelt bristle slightly. He was beginning to delve too deep, and she was beginning to question his motives in asking them. The pale queen was good at reading profiles, and from what she was beginning to discover from this man was that his pelt showed much of his personality. His interest had peaked when she had mentioned the word power, and so that, she decided, was his true goal. They already had one power hungry canine in their lands, and that was surely enough. Fallen Tree Cove needed members, but they weren’t quite that desperate. Her next words were chosen more carefully, the goal in mind of protecting her lover, the father of her children, and their pack from any more information being handed out about them. “Our goals are not yet fully decided; perhaps we may decide to stick to the lands we have for a while. My mate,” she emphasized the words, though they were not official. Perhaps they might deter him, something that she hoped would happen, “Is a strong leader. He and I are both fully supported by our members, as would be expected.” She said, and that was that. A step back insinuated that their conversation had come to an end, “I apologize for leaving mid-conversation, but I must be getting back. Duties to attend to,” A dip of her head in dismissal was given, before she turned and headed away. RE: a leaf upon the breeze - Kjors - Apr 25, 2015 [dohtml]
All at once, the mood of the chance meeting changed. A cold front washed through and as Kjors expressed curiosity, the woman seemed to close up all at once. If she thought he was interested in being her mate (or unseating him from his glorious position), she'd read him all wrong. Oh, yes, she was very pretty, her name was nice, and she was a well-spoken wolf, but nothing of the sort the dragon felt himself drawn to in the slightest.
The backtracking was met with a quirked eyebrow but no pursuit. If she felt threatened, perhaps she wasn't quite the alpha she'd presented herself to be. "Well, best a' luck to ya then, lass," he rumbled as Namid quickly clammed up, throwing a limp excuse between them before she turned and retreated back towards pack lands. Her back turned, she made an easy target – but the timber wolf had no interested in causing that much trouble. Instead, he simply watched her leave before setting on a path himself. It would not surprise him if the female had set up an ambush, or a spy, but no such thing came to fruition as he turned and trekked back towards his temporary home.
While Fallen Tree Cove had sounded interesting initially, the lack of direction soured his opinion. Furthermore, Namid's sudden retreat made him instantly suspicious – either she was lying, or she was insecure. Neither of these things were appealing prospects. What her mate was like, only the Mother knew, but he supposed it was her loss. Small pack that it was, they shouldn't be turning away members like that. Alas.
Kjors shook his head and logged the information away. Perhaps they'd meet again, Star Dancer and One-Eyed Dragon.
