Nash's reaction only encouraged Chan's ears to crumple further down onto his skullcap. He wanted to be a confidant for his brother, the way Tagg had been for him, but he only ever seemed to upset the younger wolf. Make things... worse. That familiar feeling of just doing more harm than good attempted to crawl back up from his stomach into his throat, but he swallowed it back.
This wasn't about this. Nash was struggling, and what he needed to know most was that Chan was here for him.
I know you can, he wanted to say, you can do anything you put your mind to. But the other Eastfall was asking to move on instead, and Chan could only oblige.
"Yeah," he agreed, picking up and leaving to lead the way to some kind of busy work.
