RE: Dag on Rodents - Iopah - Apr 07, 2014

Wildone has given specific permission for me to PP both Danica and Frost so that this thread may be completed. One more post from Koda, then I can do a fade-out?
-------------
She could sense Frost and Danica standing next to her, but she didn't turn to them. Every piece needed to be in place before the game could continue. Finally Koda passed out of sight and Iopah flicked her tail gently to them, then started out. The thick snow muffled the sound of their movements. The journey was quiet, Iopah leading the way without word and indicating the path with a simple flick of her muzzle. As they came closer to the deer Iopah paused once to observe them. She glanced at her companions and softly reminded them to begin searching for any weakness. She spent a moment for them to begin their evaluation. In another minute her anticipation was urging them all on. The smell of the deer was like a drug and Iopah could think of nothing else.

They reached a low bluff and stopped. The herd was several yards away, already their ears were beginning to flick in mild alarm. In a few minutes they would flee. Plenty of time yet. "Danica." Iopah hissed. "If they kick you move back."

A cow deer crouched as if to spring, and Iopah burst forward, unable to hold back. She hurtled toward them, snarling and kicking up snow. There was movement to her right and left and Iopah knew the other two woman had joined her. As one they raced forward and the deer all sprang away. She squinted her eyes against the stinging snow and watched every step they took. The younger bull fell behind and Iopah flanked it, letting the other deer veer away. She could see ice on his rump and hear his hooves as he plowed through the snow away from them. Her leg stung, it was freshly scabbed over, but she couldn't even consider slowing. The deer pulled away and Iopah cried out, snapping at the air in frustration. "@Koda! The younger bull is coming!"

Lying in wait, the male could feel his muscle's bundle with anticipation of lunging at his kill, and chasing it down until it grew too tired to put up a fight; that was the most fun part. Although aging, the male was still relatively fast, his reflexes were still like that of a yearling and he was very attentive to his surroundings, taking note without faltering as the women around him began the hunt.

Danica was a quick learner, observing the packs hunter and doing her job as instructed while making sure to keep herself from the harm of a frightened deers hooves. When the scattered deer began their run, he saw with wide eyes as one of them headed toward him, frantic to get away. Hunger shined in his yellow gaze as he sprung like a tightened coil from his hiding spot in hot pursuit of the oncoming deer. It was unfortunate for this young deer but they would soon be lunch.

Veering as the deer did, he kept his composure and increased his speed when the deer attempted to shake him off but there was no point, when Koda was on the trail, he could not be stopped. Casting a glance in the women's direction, panting as his thick legs plowed through the snow, he spoke quickly in hopes of bringing the group closer to take this beast down. "This young one is weak!" he bellowed, having noticed the limp despite the young deers constant desire to flee. When he felt he was at a close enough distance from the deer he lunged, attempting to cause injury and bleed the creature to death. After at least 30 minutes of running the deer had given up, covered in wounds and tired from running and the group took a feast of the meat immediately, devouring it straight from the bones and taking some chunks to bring back to the pack.

There is an elk carcass nearby. It looks like it froze to death. +12 Health
