Silence Broken - Vlarindara - Jan 21, 2011 [dohtml] Her eyes followed Borden as he disappeared into the forest surrounding her slight home with a rather quiet chuckle. The she-wolf turned and padded into the small cave that served as their den, though she couldn't tell if any wolves would be returning to it.. should that happen.. she would leave. She moved in silence as she threaded her way into the den, checking that the pup was still alright and sleeping soundly. Reassured that he was perfectly fine, she shifted and walked in a slow circle a few times before dropping down to the stone floor.[/doHTML] Silence Broken - Borden - Jan 21, 2011 [dohtml] src=http://lh6.ggpht.com/_SvwPAhUm8f8/TTNnNYS9VAI/AAAAAAAABbI/KRzfm3Lpygk/icon_001.png align=right hspace=5>Taking after the ermine, Borden dashed to and fro, his jaws snapping at its own short, black-tipped tail as he started gaining up on it. He snarled at the creature as it began to climb a tree; its white fur sharply contrasting against the dark bark allowed Borden to see it clearer. He crouched at the tree’s roots and before the weasel could climb too high, the wolf sprang, ensnaring it within his jaws. Dropping the token at his feet, he took a good look at its lifeless body. It was much larger meal than than the couple of squirrels he intended to provide her with before, but perhaps an additional ‘course’ would be enough for now. Silence Broken - Vlarindara - Jan 21, 2011 [dohtml] The sight of the two creatures made her mouth water, but she smiled up at him, leaning out and nudging her nose against his leg. "No... you didn't keep me waiting." She was extremely grateful for his actions and reached out to pull the smaller of the two weasels over to where she had it settled in her paws. She did feel embarrassed, of course, that she wouldn't be able to eat the larger one. Over the course of the months it seemed, she had been able to eat less and less - and had begun to wonder if she just hadn't the capacity for the meals, or she simply had gotten used to not eating as much.[/doHTML] Silence Broken - Raigo - Jan 22, 2011 [dohtml] An ear flicked in the young wolf's sleep, but he shifted his position and kept sleeping without interruption. Quite a sound sleeper, sometimes, even this much movement during sleep was irregular for Raigo. However, given the voices coming from right outside the den that Vlar had found for them in addition to the delightful scents that wafted into the small cave-like hole, it was not really all that surprising that the young wolf was beginning to wake from his sleep.[/doHTML] Silence Broken - Borden - Jan 22, 2011 [dohtml] src=http://lh6.ggpht.com/_SvwPAhUm8f8/TTNnNYS9VAI/AAAAAAAABbI/KRzfm3Lpygk/icon_001.png align=right hspace=5>Beaming down at her as she showed him her gratitude, his tail began to wag. Again, as he had done for practically all her offerings, he politely refused. “Leave it for Raigo,” he said, his voice still a whisper. “Growing pups need any morsel they can get.” He returned her smile and winked as she ate; he turned his gaze to the sky and the darkness beyond their safe hold as not to bother her. Silence Broken - Vlarindara - Jan 22, 2011 [dohtml] At first, the white female had been content to devour her meal and move to lift the other weasel from its new 'home' on the ground to take into Raigo. No sooner than she'd reached for it than she heard his claws sliding on the floor of the den. As his form leapt over her back, she turned to look at him, fixing him with a rather perplexed look - mingled with a gentle pride. Her feet gathered beneath her and she stood calmly, shaking herself off and then placing a single leg, very deliberately right in front of the pups nose, attempting to block his path to the other wolf. Had he pressed his 'attack' she would have moved and placed herself between them.[/doHTML] Silence Broken - Raigo - Jan 22, 2011 Everything was not exactly going according to plan; although that assumed that there was a plan in the first place, which, knowing Raigo, was somewhat doubtful. But still, at least his sudden appearance had surprised the male, giving Vlar some time to run. That was step in the right direction, at least. He had gotten the male to back up, and that was definitely part of the plan! Force him into retreat! Immaculate white suddenly blocked his vision of the male and his eyes crossed, trying to focus on the object that had been placed directly in front of his nose. He followed it up to where it joined the rest of Vlarindara's body and his ears pricked forwards, slightly confused. They had spent all this time avoiding contact with any other wolf, and now one had found their hiding spot and, when Raigo tried to at least delay him, Vlar was stopping him from doing anything. A soft whine sounded from the younger wolf as he tried to figure out just what it was he was supposed to be doing. Again, his eyes crossed as he followed her leg back down, making sure that she had not decided to move it. Finding the limb still solidly in place, Raigo surrendered his defensive crouch and listened attentively as Vlar explained just who this wolf was. Well, "explained" as a relative term. However, at the mention of a bear, Raigo's jaw dropped slightly. "Vlar! You ran into a bear? What were you doing? Did you chase it off?" He only then remembered his manners and turned to the male wolf, trying to keep from bouncing in excitement to hear Vlar's story. "Thank you for saving Vlar," he said, lowering his head respectfully to the male. It aggravated him a little bit that Vlar was so confident that he would simply "bounce off" if he had tried to attack the male. "He's not that big," he muttered under his breath. Of course, the fact that Vlar was acting...oddly around the male was basically lost on Raigo, since he had caught sight of the dead weasel laying near Vlar's feet. It took everything he had not to lick his lips and hope that it was for him. He was actually fairly hungry. When Vlar pushed the dead animal over to him, he started to dive into it, but stopped just before his teeth reached it. "You already had one?" he asked, wanting to make sure that Vlar had actually eaten and was not just saying that she had to make him happy. However, he caught sight of the blood stains just before they were cleaned away and so, satisfied that Vlar had eaten, began to devour his own late night meal. Silence Broken - Borden - Jan 22, 2011 [dohtml] src=http://lh6.ggpht.com/_SvwPAhUm8f8/TTNnNYS9VAI/AAAAAAAABbI/KRzfm3Lpygk/icon_001.png align=right hspace=5>A simple nod and a quiet smile responded to Raigo’s polite ‘thank you;’ and as he helped himself to the ermine Borden couldn’t help but give a light chuckle. “He’s got a good bark,” he grinned, looking upon the duo as Raigo began to question her about the encounter they had earlier that afternoon. “Very good stance, too.” His haunches lowered into the snow and he took a moment to shake his head and shoulders just enough to rid his pelt of the gathering snowflakes. Slowly, he slid his forepaws forward and reclined into a more relaxed position. Silence Broken - Vlarindara - Jan 22, 2011 [dohtml] Her eyes crinkled just slightly as he relaxed and thanked the other wolf, her own face turning towards Borden. "Yes, I ran into a bear. No, I didn't provoke it..intentionally, but I hadn't noticed it coming up either. I think he just disliked having a wolf in his territory, that's all. And we didn't so much run him off.. as he ran us off." She shook her head, lowering it and bumping her nose against his hind end - the end not busy with the weasel. "Perhaps if I'd been a bit older, I would have been more of a help." She wasn't going to let Raigo in on the fact that it wasn't her age that was the problem, but her health. Knowing that he worried for her in the face of another wolf only lent her to further preventing worry over things she couldn't change.[/doHTML] Silence Broken - Raigo - Jan 22, 2011 Slightly encouraged by the praise from the older, bigger male, Raigo's tail gave a few wags, though he did his best to keep it still. He thought that, if the male would tolerate him, he would love to learn what could be taught. After all, had Vlar not said that this male had brought both weasels to the den? That meant that he had to be a good hunter, and fast, too! Who better to teach an exemplary wolf such as Raigo how to be a real hunter than a wolf that had caught two weasels in one trip? As he ate, Raigo's mind was filled with imagined hunts of truly epic proportions. Raigo, charging at the head of a pack to take down...well, the very bear that had threatened Vlarindara! Of course, he would have to find a pack, first. And he and Vlar did not seem particularly close do doing so, if she was even looking for one. That thought caused the effervescent young wolf to pause for a moment, but he quickly resumed eating before either adult could have really noticed. A serious matter, finding one's own pack, and one that gave even the energetic young Raigo a moment's pause. But he trusted Vlar to look out for him and so he would do his best to look out for her. Even, he decided, at the risk of attacking much bigger, stronger wolves than he if they were trying to harm her. But, such thoughts were better left until after dinner, so Raigo simply devoured the rest of the delicious weasel that had been brought by the male. In almost no time at all, there were naught but bones and a few of the more unsavory parts left of his meal. His hope was that this would only be the first of many meals to be delivered by this male. While she may not have thought it, Raigo had noticed that Vlar was not faring so well. He was not exactly certain why, but he knew that it had to do with her giving him most of the food that she managed to catch. Maybe, with the male bringing food to her, she would be able to regain her strength. Riago wanted that; he wanted that very badly since Vlar was the only wolf in the world that he really knew. Speaking of which...He looked up at her and found that she was laying right next to the male. This caught him by surprise. It was honestly one of the last things that he expected her to do. But, oh, they did look so very warm together, like that. He wiped his muzzle through the light dusting of snow that covered the ground and licked his lips a few times, trying to clean all of the blood from his meal off. A small shiver coursed down his spine and his eyes settled on Vlarindara and the male again. He walked forwards, as lightly as he possibly could, and lay down behind Vlar, his head on her ribs and his ribs against the male's back. Ahhh, that felt much better. |
