From ashed to ashes, borne from shadow, the monster returned to shadows, melting away into the darkness of the hell-forest. Kiche watched him go, not a bit sorry about the rude manner with which he had dealt with the brute. He deserved it. All savages deserved it. The only way he seemed capable of communicating with them seemed to be shouting. They were all deaf, stupid, mumbling idiots! But at least he was gone now. Kiche let out all the pent up air and anxiety from his lungs, a gust fit to blow trees over. He was safe now.

Almost.

In the growing darkness, the silence took on a strange quality. Foreboding. Empty. Kiche glanced around. He was alone, but for some reason that was not a comfort. He was alone in this world, this hell. This evil world full of half-devil, half-child monsters. The heart beat of the forest was all around him, and it called his name, tempting him like that evil serpent. Kiche tried to shut his heart.

Once more he took up his lamenting.
