It was evident that the sandy princess was different than the other wolves Greer often encountered. Whether it was nerves or her personality, he didn’t know; the girl had a quiet demeanor and wore a cautious expression. It was refreshing to come across someone who shared similar qualities and didn’t want to constantly stain the air with unwanted words. He observed her quietly, his mercury gaze hardened as he watched her reaction to his offhanded compliment. It was though the girl did not know how to react to the compliment and immediately became bashful—which amused the slender shadow. He was blunt and honest, traits that he couldn’t give up even if he tried.

An answer came from Kyna after a moment of silence, her thin voice breaking the comfortable silence that had fallen between them. She announced that she had sought out quiet, something that Greer could relate to. He nodded softly, as though he agreed with her reason, and cocked his head as she continued with her explanation. It seemed the two shared something in common—it made him like her even more. His lips remained drawn shut as his gaze fell from the tawny girl and fixated on her hidden den once more. “Kyna castle…” he commented softly, almost to himself, before the princess’ voice broke once more.

A smile worked its way onto his thin muzzle at her invitation and he nodded once more, his tail swaying in agreement. “Greer like that. Greer come visit..” he paused, his tongue heavy in his mouth before he uttered a promise to the mountain princess: “One day Greer show Ky forest. If Ky want.” Perhaps one day Greer would come looking for the Plateau and seeking acceptance among the mountain wolves… that was, if the pack was suited for him. There were still more lurking around Relic Lore that Greer wanted to learn about before making a decision on where to start the next chapter of his life.

“Greer like quiet. Always alone… Greer like shadows and trees… they quiet. Not like wolves. Wolves loud.” Another nod, another pause; he offered the girl a half-smile as he shuffled his forepaws, his stone gaze falling into her face once more. “Ky pick good spot.” The shadow had a habit of shortening names, or giving others nicknames (whether they wanted one or not). Since the prince rarely asked for the names of those he encountered, he often gave them names. Or, when they did, he would immediately shorten it. With his fragmented speech, the shortened names made it easier for Greer to spit out. Since he didn’t like speaking, it was ideal to get as little words out as possible.

THERE IS A CASTLE ON A CLOUD

It would have felt good to know that Greer considered himself only honest and forthright, but the compliment felt good all the same.  Despite the fact that he was a stranger, the svelte shade seemed much more like a friend than even some more familiar wolves within her father and mother’s pack.  The child wiggled a little closer.  By nature, she had a soft voice, and never found it within her to raise the volume, even when faced with her excitable agemate or one of the yearlings within the borders.  She’d prefer simply to retreat than try to compete with such noise, which was one of the many reasons that had led her to break Aponi’s rules and seek out a safe haven somewhere beyond Silent Moon Plateau’s borders.  The shadow did not seem to want to speak loudly, either, and this suited her just fine – they could be close, and quiet, and it would be the happiest the girl had been in quite some time.

“Yes,”
she murmured softly, something warm beginning to flicker in fire lit eyes.  Where others would treat the peace that settled over the pair dreadfully jejune, Kyna exhibited nothing but delight, a muted joy evident only in the smile spreading across her eyes.  “Yes, I’d like that.  Both.  Visit me, sometime.  In the quiet place.  And I can see the woods.  Sometime.”  Two stealthy wolves in a silent place – nothing could sound better.  It occurred to her then that she could consider the older male her friend, and a slow smile spread across her lips then.  Yes, a friend.  A secret friend, that none of the other Moon wolves could ever know about.  Something about that fact made it all the more special.

“I like quiet.  Not always alone, though.  My mother’s always around.  Very…very loud.”
No one could accuse Aponi of failing to express her mind, after all.  The thought was met with a wry expression, a slow shake of her head.  “The other pups, too.  Loud.  So loud.  So I come here for alone time.”

Taken by a sudden bought of bravery, the honeyspun princess crept forward, until she stood within a length of Greer’s body.  She had to pause to consider, but she swallowed down her doubts and edged nearer until they were practically on top of one another.  Her nose reached out, trying to press against his muzzle or cheek in a shy, hesitant display of friendship.  Affection?  She’d met others before, but Greer was by far her favorite of the wolves met beyond the borders her mother had set for her.  “Friends.  Okay?” she asked hopefully, her tail beginning to swing behind her.  “Even if we’re far.”  The woods…weren’t that far from the plateau, she supposed.  Maybe when she was a bit bigger, like the yearling before her, the journey would be easier to make – or they could meet somewhere in the middle, a place not unlike her tree.  Like their friendship, their hangout could be secret, private, and just for them, a place they could rest and find their peaceful, silent bliss.  “Greer and Kyna.  Friends.”

your post gave me all kinds of feels <3 when i get back from my vacation we will definitely need another thread

The thin shadow liked the tiny creature before him very much. She reminded him of how he had been as a cub—she was a healthy mix of both bold and shy, and only spoke as she deemed fit. Kyna was unlike any other he had encountered in his adventures and, aside from the ghostly Hecate, he liked her the most. His mind was already reeling with his favourite hidden spots within the forest to show the mountain princess… blinking hard, the boy refocused his attention on the little flower before him, his expression soft as she responded enthusiastically to his offer. Although the mangled tree was hers, Greer liked the idea of this being their quiet place. His tail thumped excitedly at the thought while his lips remained drawn tight. She was much more interesting than he was, and the smudge did not want to taint he air with his broken speech.

He nodded in agreement at her next set of words; it seemed as though they were both dealing with noisy pups (even though she was one). “Greer has noisy pups at home, too. Greer always avoid them.  Too much noise…” he confessed sheepishly, his ears falling back slightly as he adverted his gaze for the first time. “Quiet is good. Quiet let Greer think.” Another nod, another half-smile. Normally he wouldn’t like talking so much, but it was comforting being around someone who felt the same. It made it difficult for him to restrain his voice.

Suddenly the girl stepped forward, taking the slender wolf by surprise. With his brows arched he observed her silently, unsure of how to respond to her movement. She quickly closed the distance between them, her little nose reaching out for his muzzle. Frozen, the boy remained where he was; he wasn’t fond of physical contact and preferred to avoid it completely. However, as her soft nose brushed against his cheek, the shadow instantly relaxed; his brows resumed their normal position and he exhaled the breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. “Yes, friends. Even if far,” he agreed as he ‘booped’ her on the nose with his own. He had already been to the heights once before, and this gave him an excuse to keep visiting. While he would save the topic until their next meeting, Greer was fascinated by the mountain wolves and why they chose to live so far from the forests. As much as he enjoyed living beneath a balcony of branches, he was curious as to what life was like on the plateau.

“Ky is Greer friend and Greer is Ky friend. Always.” The shadow sealed the promise with a nod, his expression soft as he looked down on the smaller wolf. “Spot at forest end. Big rock. If Ky need Greer, go there. Greer will come.” He wanted his new friend to know that he would always be there for her, even if he roamed a little too far from home. He would always make time for quiet time with the Moon princess.

THERE IS A CASTLE ON A CLOUD

It never occurred to Kyna that other wolves may not desire a show of physical affection – while her own mother was hardly liberal with her displays, the child was still groomed by her dam.  Often she was tucked against the silver woman’s side when it came time to bed down for the night.  The princess would never waste a touch or gentle offering, for to her they were rare and expressed only when they were truly meant, and she had her mouth half open to apologize for the distress she sensed in the air when her new friend leaned down to return the ‘boop’ of noses.  All at once, her regret vanished into thin air, and her slender tail began to swing again as she smiled up shyly at the shade.  “Friends.  Good,” she crooned softly, quiet pleased her proposition had been agreed upon.

As time slipped away from them, the Silent Moon princess began to finally become aware of just how long she’d been gone from home.  Never before had she broken her mother’s rules, and it dawned on the young blond that the longer she stayed away from the pack grounds, the more likely it was that she would be caught.  Glancing up at the shadow’s kind offer, the girl gave a small nod.  At the edge of the forest, a big rock.  Go there to see Greer, and he would come.  Knowing well she would never forget something so important, she smiled softly, and spoke back up.  “Okay.  If you want to see me…come here.  To the quiet tree,” she suggested, glancing over her shoulder at the small earthen den.  She’d not be able to find behind the barrier to protect her from the rest of the world forever, but the princess would never forget where the tree was, and where she met the wolf she could empathize so strongly with.

Taking another step forward, Kyna nudged the smudge’s muzzle one last time before she turned, slowly orienting herself back in the direction of Silent Moon Plateau. “Should go, probably,” she sighed softly, casting her mournful gaze in the direction of all the wolves she’d sought to temporarily escape.  While she much preferred the serenity and quiet (and the company) she’d found here, the girl knew well she’d have no peace at all if Aponi had discovered her daughter had broken the rules and snuck over the borders without permission or a chaperone.  “My mother will know,” she added as an explanation, not wishing Greer to think she was so eager to be rid of his company.

Offering the boy one last, longing look, a crooked smile tipped on one side of her mouth as the girl wagged her tail one last time.  This had been good, she thought – this had been worth the terror that came with breaking the rules (and the utter fear she’d dealt with when she was first discovered in her tiny hiding place). “See you soon,” she whispered, and the child was off, jogging slowly across the earth as she carefully made her way back home.

Exit.

Yes, I would love that!  I think you could either archive or post one more time and we can call it a wrap?  :3

@Kyna archived <3 put off replying this because i really didn't want this thread to end ;_;

Greer liked the idea of having secret spots with the mountain princess very much. It would be nice to escape from the hustle and bustle of the ridge and seek out comfort with a companion who was just as content with the silence as he was. He was grateful that the ball of fluff had come out of her shell during the time they spent together; though this was just their first meeting, he couldn’t deny that he was quite fond of her (in the ‘we’re gonna be great friends’ way). Perhaps if wasn’t nearly half his age, Greer would have taken a greater interest in the quiet princess, but he was more than satisfied with having her as a friend.

Next encounter Greer would be sure to ask her about life on the mountain, and whether it would be suited for him. Out of all the packs he had discovered in Relic Lore, the ones that resided among the stone fascinated him the most. He was intrigued why they had abandoned the trees and the lush, green foliage for rock. Lurking among the foliage was one of his favourite activities; he would have to start over with his stalking if he left the forest behind. How were wolves supposed to stalk if things were so… open?

A nod followed in response to her words—the quiet tree. Greer liked the idea of returning. “Greer will come,” he responded quickly with a soft swish of his tail as his mercury gaze softened. It would be their spot, and the lanky shadow did not want to share it with anyone.

There was another display of friendly affection, which sent an unusual feeling of warmth and comfort seeping through his body. He offered her a sort-of smile (the best that he could since he didn’t really smile much—scowling was his thing) as she stepped back, her head heavy as she announced that it was time for them to depart. The deer-legged smudge immediately wanted to protest the idea, but he knew that there was nothing he could do. She was young, and like she had mentioned, her mother was probably already looking for. The last thing Greer wanted was for a desperate mother to find a scary, spider-like wolf hanging out with her precious mountain princess. He nodded once more, this time in understanding, as he allowed his gaze to fall back onto the rock behind her. “Ky be safe,” he commented absently as his silver pools fell back onto her small figure. “Greer see Ky soon. Greer promise.” Another nod; another tail wag. Physical cues were his thing, unlike constant word vomit. Most of the time, speaking wasn’t necessary—it was just easy.

He remained where he was as he watched her reluctantly walk away. He, too, did not want their meeting to end so quickly, but it was understandable. The shadow prince would just have to make sure he returned to their secret quiet place soon—he didn’t like breaking promises. As her sandy figure disappeared among the rock, the shadow turned to face the forest once more. He would remain here for a few moments longer to savour the interaction before heading back to the ridge. If it were up to him, he would stay up here right then and now, but he knew he needed to return. He couldn’t abandon his mother and family just yet.
