spring swaps leaves for snow - Renier - Jan 18, 2017

@Sven @Enoki @Nicolò @Ravenna Here is the WR hunt. I'm doing it a little differently.
This takes place just south of Willow Ridge, right before dusk. Renier has struck at a whitetail buck who has lost one antler/is diseased. He's wounded it, but not very severely so he's calling for the pack to join him.

Blood marred the underside of his throat. It was the least of his concerns. He stood head on from the buck, staring into faint, brown eyes waiting to see what way he would try to move.

He had come across him by mere chance. The lone bachelor had been raking his remaining antler on a nearby willow, drawing attention from the wanderer. The rogue had hung back in hiding, wondering if he should pursue. It wasn't until the deer turned away from the tree, did he see the odd swelling on the one side of its face, and heard its respiratory distress as it froze for a second, on the watch. Luckily, it continued to move on, likely searching for water. Unknowing it had just become a target at least for a few more moments.

When the buck paused again, this time Renier made his move. Plummeting through the snow, and attempting to leave a gnash on the creature's haunches. It was tricky, the deer tried to launch itself forward through the deep snow. By the third try he found flesh, and ripped, blood splattering. The creature bleated his fear and pain.

The deer got a length ahead by taking two bounds. Quickly, the Lyall  faced it, trying to keep it from getting too far. The white-tailed only stared, debating to go left or right. Renier let out a howl for reinforcements that should only be a short ways away.

RE: spring swaps leaves for snow - Sven - Jan 19, 2017

Luckily for the circumstances, Sven was a lot closer than he realized to Renier. He'd been heading back home, on his way to find @Attica so that the two might settle in for the night together. When his newest alpha's howl siphoned into his ears, he curved his course and headed out at a sprint to meet him. As the man and his prey crested the horizon, the boy realized instantly what was happening as well as what was needed of him.

Coming at them from an opposing angle, he was able to mitigate the sounds his snowy approach made, hiding his presence from the unlucky animal for long enough to catch it by surprise. He lunged for that soft spot just before the hip, and while his teeth brushed against the taut skin, he was unable to catch and rip before that antler was turned his way and the boy had to bounce away.

His silver gaze jumped to Renier, hoping to catch his eye. With two of them lunging from opposite directions, they'd be able to start gouging away at it, one of them at a time. Whether he was to be the distraction or the weapon, Sven locked his eyes back onto the prey and struck forward again, light on his large paws and ready to dodge away at any given moment.

Suddenly the smell of fresh spilled blood began to fill the nostrils of the magpie and immediately a dark hued head lifted from the cold of the snow she had been shoveling with her snout to send flakes flying everywhere, attention on clearing away the entrance of her personal den which had become snowed in due to lack of proper use temporarily set aside to focus forward facing ears on the sound of distant bleating. With the further drop in temperatures lately the two toned woman had spent more time sleeping with her fellow pack mates for the extra warmth rather than sleeping alone as she usually did since she first joined the pack. That was when she wasn't out and about attending to the new list of responsibilities that rested on her shoulders since the rise to leadership. To this day words that Craw had muttered still whispered and wormed its way within the back of her mind.

Curiosity began to coax the piebald female away from the personal abode beneath the fading sunlight and toward the direction the distant bleating had resonated from, dormant hunter coming alive more and more with each stride through the piled snow that brought her closer to the southern expanse of the Ridge boarders. Swarthy limbs halted momentarily when Renier's howl rose into the dusk riddled sky, a momentary smirk adorning Enoki's inky lips. Without further hesitation her limbs were set back into motion, closing the gap between where she was presently and the portion of Hush Meadow where the call had originated from. It didn't take the lithe woman long to arrive on scene, acute sense of smell using the pungent odor of blood on the air to lead her to the altercation. A quick assessment revealed Sven and Renier tangoing with the lone buck whom had only a single antler, an awfully swollen side of the face and wound to its haunch. No doubt the reasoning behind the bleating she had heard earlier.

Currently their intended target had its eyes set on Sven, the single antler swung wildly at the pale wolf in attempts of impaling the predator. Knowing it couldn't keep an eye on three wolves at once(if it had spot her at all yet) Enoki used the element of surprise to rush the buck from an angled position just out of sight in a blur of blacks and whites, marred muzzle parting to scrap the points of her teeth against the taunt hide before tearing away the flesh. Muscles quickly springing her back a few bounds to avoid the antler that was now sent swinging toward her with another painful bleat escaping the frantic beast. Dark lips curled back to reveal a row of tarnished teeth, gnashing them together defensively as she squared off with the sickly buck.

After casting amber gaze toward either of the men to gauge their location she tentatively took a small lunge forward with snapping jaws which in turn warranted the buck to stomp a front leg and shake its damaged rack at her, causing Enoki to once more take a leap back toward a safer distance. The magpie had no qualms playing the part of decoy in this hunt if need be, especially if it allowed the men a chance to get some more heavy blows in and weaken their target for the inevitable take down.

In a stand off, the deer went left, and Renier zipped left. He wasn't going to give up that easily. On more wolf, and they'd have a decent supper. He could probably keep this up for awhile, and track it down. He soon rather have it ended tonight, and full bellies.

Ask and you shall receive.

Eyes didn't leave the buck, but he was sure there was another coming his way. Soon, a large blur of white launched itself against the deer. Renier dove out of its way, but it was trying to deflect Sven's attack. So the rogue straightened, formulating a new idea. He saw the look from the yearling, and gave a single nod. One, and then the other in this cautious dance. They'd take their time, and the fight in him would dwindle until they could give the last blow.

Sven readied himself, and struck again. Renier barely registered they were joined by the hunter herself until she made a dive of her own. The deer was getting more angry, and threatened to attack in turn. At this rate how much stamina did it have?

As Enoki would draw its attention, he made a point to drop back, taking the opportunity to strike against its side once more, where he would grab hold, clinging to the deer's flesh. Another horrible cry would fall from its lips, as it tried to hustle forward, wishing to escape its fate. Renier would release leaving a small rip that pooled with more blood. Carefully, he kept to the deer's side, trying to be ready for his next strike, and also avoid being harmed. It was Sven's move now.

RE: spring swaps leaves for snow - Sven - Jan 27, 2017

It wasn't too long, a few dodges and swings of the beast's one remaining antler, before a third pack mate joined them. Sven's silver eyes flashed to catch who, and was relatively pleased to see @Enoki. Hunting had been her specialty in the pack dynamics after all, hadn't it? Regardless, with three of them now striking and distracting from different directions, things would go a whole lot quicker. The dumb animal certainly didn't stand a chance, and with a face like that they were most likely putting it out of its misery. It had probably been in pain long before Renier had found it.

They worked the animal in place for a few strikes, until their latest male lead got a good hold and the buck was jolted out of fight and into flight. It made a desperate dodge forward, and while he could see Renier pulling up to one side, he had momentarily lost sight of what Enoki was up to. Instead of looking around, he reacted instinctively. He bounded along the deer's opposing flank and the sprinted ahead, barking a warning to the Lyall before cutting in front of their prey, effectively herding it into sharply turning the alpha's way.

Hopefully, Renier would have heeded his signal and not been in the buck's path as it had turned his way. It was then either of the lead pair's turn to encircle the beast and stop its stampeding once more, because already Sven was lunging to take another chunk out of it. He wanted to rip open that belly; certainly that would bring the animal to the ground.

Quite the well oiled machine, the trio worked in tune with one another exchanging blows and distracting their quarry. Now that the beast had three wolves to contend with; one in which skilled in the art of hunting, there was no hope of escape and in the end its life would not be chopped down in vein. Soon enough the meat layered upon its bones would be filling the bellies of the pack and the herds made healthy once more with the removal of a weaker lineage from their collective gene pool. That is, once they managed to bring the damaged buck down.

While the magpie woman kept the animal distracted, their latest patriarch drew back to strike out once more at the exposed side, the strong aroma of fresh spilled blood beginning to fill the huntress's nostrils and stoke the fire while smoldering amber gaze drifted for just a split moment to watch the trickle of liquid crimson over course hair before fight indeed turned into flight. Fear grew evident within the depths of the buck's dark brown eyes and in the blink of an eye it bolted forward leaving the piebald female no choice but to leap to the side to avoid a very painful collision with those still lethal antlers despite being damaged.

A low rumble formed within Enoki's chest and she watched as the men gave chase on either flank of the fleeing animal, Sven suddenly taking the initiative to rush forward and cut off any hopes of finding an escape route. Taking note of their new positions in this dance of life and death, her frame adjusted to block off any chance of turning around to flee once more, gaze watching the blur of white as the Archer charged to sink his teeth into flesh again. Aiding the man Enoki lunges forward to snap at a rear leg, hoping to cause its attention to fall onto her before leaping back to avoid a nasty hind kick.

He heeded Sven's warning, zipping from the path of its hooves as it turned ready to make a mad dash. Gold eyes earnestly swept over in time to see it had missed Enoki and the Archer. Now the huntress was taking the opertunity to block its escape route. They just needed to keep tearing at it. Renier liked to get it these things over as quickly as possible. It was always amazing how much fight was left in something like this.

Sven seemed to have the idea, and  would lay a good blow to the brute's stomach. Enoki swiftly at its haunches to draw its attention. How she constantly danced forward and back he did not know.

A snarl raised from his lips, he feinted an attack, hoping it was enough for the others. He then pursued along its side, adrenaline surging, the huffs of their exasperated breaths beating with their limbs that scraped the snow in a hurried rush.

He waited for his turn, and then the Lyall lunged, launching himself at its lower neck. His aim was true, this grip firm. His teeth thrusting into flesh. The deer half dragged him, Ren's hind legs brushing along the snow. The wolf leaned, a single harsh jerk  to pull it off balance. Now it had to struggle to keep up right. Its hind limb gave one last kick, and then its front leg thrashed, nicking his side.  A low screech fell from his parting lips, as immediately he released, darting away from the toppling body. His rib throbbed where it had struck, but he didn't pay it mind. Now they'd finish it, and he ushered a bark of command to get to it.

Sven hadn't missed that kick. A red flag raised in his mind and stayed up pointedly. He would have to ensure, after this was all said and done, that Renier visited @Ravenna. In all honesty, he wasn't sure if the man would be stubborn about it or not, but they certainly couldn't risk it. Pale eyes zoned back in on their prey for the now, the animal down on the ground and thrashing madly with the last of its energy. The boy stayed back, out of its reach though no further, pacing so as to keep the buck guessing while he awaited an opening. There was no need for him to walk away with an injury as well.

His eyes kept glancing back to that tear in the side of his belly, where he'd gotten so close to ripping all the way through. A few sullen bleats escaped their quarry as its strength began to fade, and that was his opportunity. Sven lunged forward and sunk his fangs into the same spot, tearing his head wildly from side to side until the flesh gave and gore tumbled out of the wide opening he'd created. A few more kicks flailed at the air, but the buck knew it was over and soon gave in to the bleeding out.

A satisfied chuff escaped the boy's lips as he took a few steps back again, mindful that his superiors might wish to dig in for a meal before him.

Fear began to slow the world down around the Ridge wolves, smoldering amber gaze shifting away from the beige silhouette of their quarry to focus on the tawny frame of Renier being dragged along side it once the motion of a front leg moved and landed a nick to the lead male's side. A snarl of her own rippling from beneath curled back lips at the audacity of the beast, unsatisfied enough watching the creature topple to the ground where its fate now lay permanently sealed.

Pathetic bleating filled the air with the last noises the buck would make during its final minutes of precious life, the magpie female keeping her position steadily while avoiding the reachable range of its hide legs to prevent another member in this small hunting party to acquire an injury. Luckily the extent of Renier's wasn't extreme from what could be gauged in that moment, but any kick could cause some serious internal damage and much like Sven, she would urge the man to seek out Ravenna after all was said and done to get himself checked out.

Soon enough, though, their prey was beginning to lose what little strength it had left and Sven ceased the prime opportunity to lunge forward and sink teeth into the vulnerable and tender flesh of the side belly where a previous wound had already been made. A surge of excitement flooding the two toned wolf watching her paler counterpart ravish the flesh with vigorous shakes of his head from side to side. It wouldn't take long now for the hunt to be over, but to ensure their success, Enoki rounded to lunge for the throat. Her own teeth sinking into the flesh covering the jugular to bite down with a vice grip that cut off a final bleating cry mid-formation, the noise withering away much like the life force that quickly drained from its body with the gore that tumbled free from Sven's savage tearing.

Limp between her jaws, Enoki finally released her grip and panted heavily as the crushed neck toppled to the ground, taking a moment to catch the eyes of both men present in silent appraisal of their good teamwork done that day before a rumbling in the depths of her belly pleaded she fill it with the nutritional content that lay sprawled across the crimson stained snow. Little hesitation was necessary to move forward and claim her rights to the first bite as Sven stepped back in honor of the hierarchy system, immediately devouring the liver for herself and saving the spleen for Renier should he be inclined to eat it.
