how you remind me - Lorcan - Apr 12, 2017

@Laike & All Welcome. Late afternoon, Partly cloudy, 33°F, 1°C

Lean muscles strained and a cloud of hot air plumed out from his flaring nostrils as Lorcan struggled to haul the large section of deer carcass back towards the boundaries of Hearthwood River. Heavy breathing could be heard and the occasional low growl rumbled through the forest as the agouti male struggled to make his way closer to the territory one lumbering step at a time. It had taken him almost half a day to drag the carcass back, slowed down by its weight and the awkward position that he had to walk in which he had been forced to take up in order to stop himself from tripping over it.

Black tipped tail swayed as the pungent scent of the borders reached his nose, causing his nostrils to burn a little. He still hadn’t grown used to that earthy-wooden scent; it still smelt foreign to the male and it was not something that he had yet come to associate with home and family. Truth be told, he still felt like somewhat of an outsider within the pack and it bothered him. Having come straight from Whitestone, where he had grown incredibly close to a few members in particular, it felt weird to not have a strong connection with anyone – aside from Inna perhaps, but with her everything had to be done in secret.

Now a few meters from the border, he caught the scent of another male somewhere nearby within the territory. It wasn’t one he immediately recognized, but that wasn’t particularly surprising considering he was still a newcomer to the pack. Hoping to summon the male out from the trees to come and assist him, Lorcan let out a soft bark and a yap and let the deer carcass fall loudly between his limbs.

RE: how you remind me - Laike - Apr 12, 2017

Laike had been taking his time to grow comfortable. His words to Kisla and Aleksei had been the truth and he was doing his best to prove it. Even if he hadn't had much one-on-one time with his packmates it was obvious he was around. His scent could be found on borders and near the pack den. He wasn't hiding by any means, merely busying himself with work and getting comfortable with the earthy home he had joined.

He was strolling near the borders when a call rung out. The scent of deer and one of the River's own mingled in the air. It was a sign that he shouldn't take caution. His tail swayed easily as he turned around and trotted towards the call. The large male's orange eyes searched for the wolf. Regardless he let out a bark of his own to let the other know he was on his way and it shouldn't be long.

His sides brushing against some of the trees as the male who called came into view. A familiar shape and colors that brought his heart to a stop. He wanted to say it was impossible but Laike had learned quickly that nothing was impossible in this wild world. Despite the surprise, he was quick to speak. "Where ya been, Lorcy boy? No one told me my baby brother was about." His tone wasn't sinister but it surely wasn't embracing. "Welcome home." Laike snorted softly as his eyes looked down to the meal his own blood had brought. "You do this all by yourself?" Even though he didn't say what was going on in his mind, there was something certainly implied.

RE: how you remind me - Lorcan - Apr 12, 2017

Russet ears perked up at the sound of the call that was given in return. Lorcan breathed out a heavy sigh of relief as he gazed down at the large deer carcass which he guarded possessively between his limbs as he waited for help to arrive. A few long moments passed by before the sound of rustling caught his attention and his golden gaze blinked up to see the figure which approached him, his gait confident, as he strolled out from shadows of the trees. Lorcan instinctively dipped his head in respect at the faceless male, greeting the wolf that had come to assist him with his large haul.

However as the figure drew closer, Lorcan’s gaze narrowed in suspicion. Something about that pale agouti pelt was familiar and the way the larger male moved with confidence and just a hint of arrogance, it was unnerving. Tentatively, Lorcan took a single step forwards, a sense of dread swelling in his gut as he caught a glimpse of those fiery orange eyes. No. Russet ears pressed back against his head in disbelief as he finally stood face to face with his…brother.

The words which greeted him immediately ignited a vulnerability within him. All of a sudden he felt like a helpless pup again. Golden eyes widened as internally he began to panic. “Laike.” He managed to utter, his voice coming out more like a broken whine instead of the deep murmur he had intended use. Golden gaze shifted to glance at the two clean scars which ran across his brother’s muzzle, two new additions to the face he had tried his best to forget.

Lorcan watched with growing aggravation as @Laike cast his gaze down to the deer at his paws, his muzzle wrinkling at the sarcasm which was laced like venom within his seemingly innocent question. “You wouldn’t believe me even if I said I had.” He spat back, the dark fur bristling along his back as he dropping his head defensively. “What are you doing here Laike?!” He finally asked, the irritation cracking through his voice as he looked at the unwelcome form of his larger brother up and down, his top lip curling back in defiance.

RE: how you remind me - Laike - Apr 12, 2017

Even after all this time, he could still hold a certain power over his brother. The way his name sounded like a whine, a reminder of how Laike and Malek saw their other brothers. Laike didn't offer a sly smile or even swell with pride because he knew better. The moment he got too cocky was the moment he lost any satisfaction and possibly his reign over Lorcan. Despite normal pack affairs, there was a certain bond between brothers that nothing could squirm its way into.

His eyebrow raised at Lorcan's bold remark. "Well you're still alive, so I might believe it just a smidge." Laike watched as his brother took on a defensive position. "Hey now, I welcome you home and I get met with such hostility? Didn't you miss me?" He pushed his neck out to get closer to Lorcan's face. "I live here too, positively a fluke that you happened to be here too." His voice was solid and unwavering. Orange eyes locked onto golden eyes. If his brother was gonna try something now was as good of a time as ever.

"When did you get so bold, huh?" He questioned with true interest. What kind of things had the baby boy gotten himself into that suddenly made him such a big man? Hunt a deer and you suddenly have the personality of a king? That didn't sound right.

Lorcan had expected a devilish smirk, or some kind of awful cackling to fill the air, the second that his voice broke into that pitiful whine of a sound. Russet ears pressed firmly back against his head in embarrassment and his body sunk a little lower in preparation for his brother’s taunting remarks. The remarks never came though and he didn’t even crack a grin. Golden eyes narrowed on that scarred face then, wondering what could have possibly caused the male to hold back in that moment. He had never done so before.

The raised eyebrow was met with a curl of his upper lip, but then his brother caught him off guard. Was that the smallest hint of a compliment he had just heard? This only caused his suspicion to grow. Something was off with this situation and the sick feeling within his gut only worked to further confirm it. He felt a shiver down his spine as he brother moved in to step closer and dared to ask if he’d been missed, which cause the bridge of Lorcan’s muzzle to wrinkle in objection. He wanted to lunge forwards and snap his jaws at the male’s nose, but then all of a sudden that scarred face jerked even closer towards him and those fiery eyes worked to conjure an innate fear within him.

He couldn’t say a word. Not even whine. In that moment all he could do was scowl and grimace as he looked his brother in the eye. His final question seemed to taunt him, commenting on his boldness in the very moment that he felt at his weakest. For a heartbeat or two he simply glared at his brother, a rage building in his chest as the adult in him screamed for him to react, whilst his inner pup begged for him to remain silent and hope that @Laike would just go away. He refused to let the scared puppy the win and with a sudden burst of movement, Lorcan swiftly shoved his body forwards to barge into the much larger male, hoping to push him back a pace or two.

“After learning to stand up to wolves like you.” He growled, tail curling above his back and his fur bristling as he tried to make himself appear as intimidating as possible.

RE: how you remind me - Laike - Apr 14, 2017

Laike would have been impressed had it been anyone but Lorcan. The lifted lip and wrinkled muzzle were all the older brother needed to see to know that his sibling was feeling defiant. How far was he willing to go? How much pure hatred was there compared to sibling rivalry? His hackles raised as if he needed to add size, while fiery eyes never left the masked face of his brother. The real question in the back of Laike's mind was; how far would Lorcan bend before he broke?

There was silence. No sneered remarks or even soft whines. It upset Laike but he would never admit it. His baby brother wanted to play man but couldn't seem to fit into the role. How pitiful. Maybe he hoped that something out there had truly whipped his brother into shape but it appeared not. Lucky for Lorcan that his brother dearest had arrived...

Suddenly Laike watched as his brother made a move. The slamming of bodies wasn't an unusual feeling for the burly male. He shuffled back a bit as eyes glared at the agouti male. Was Laike above this type of behavior? Usually, but did his brother deserve to be put in his rightful place? Absolutely. Without a word, the large male attempted to shove himself into the shoulder of his brother. This was no affection and this was certainly no common wrestling. "Learning to stand up? As far as I remember you ran off, you disappeared into the world without a single word when there was a chance to escape something hard. Is that what you call standing up? Were your two brothers' tough love too much for you to handle that you disappeared and left us to think you were going to die?" His voice had grown strong and harsh. Laike had little concern for who would hear because he was saying nothing but the truth. "Do you crack under pressure, Lorcan?" His fiery eyes narrowed hard to make sure Lorcan was understanding every bit of his words. The bold stance didn't scare or intimidate Laike. "When things get difficult or I give you some jabs are you gonna run off from here?" Somewhere underneath his scolding tone was a wave of sadness. Even if Lorcan had been the baby brother who was showered with teasings from older brothers, Laike still loved him. With Tikhon left in the unknown and Malek having become a traitor, Laike had no other option but to rather harshly love his wayward brother.

RE: how you remind me - Lorcan - Apr 15, 2017

Shoving forwards, Lorcan wanted nothing more than to see his larger brother topple down into the snow. Force him to feel some of the pain and humiliation that he had been forced to endure all those years ago. However, fate was not on his side, and as his smaller lean form barged into the large muscular bulk of his brother all he felt was a heavy impact. Laike didn’t even budge. Muzzle wrinkled as he glanced down at his right shoulder, wincing at the pain which now began to throb there. Glancing up, he barely had a moment to notice those deep fiery eyes glaring at him before—Oomph!

Blinking back his disorientation, golden eyes glanced around to find himself sprawled out in the snow with his brother standing over him. Russet ears pressed back against his skull and his golden eyes widened in fear as Laike leant in closer to give him a piece of his mind. His harsh words caused a frown to etch its way across his features and for his lips to pull back in protest, flashing his pearl white fangs. Shifting back up onto all fours, Lorcan quickly took up a defensive stance. Paws spread wide and his head hung low to protect his neck. “That was before.” He sneered, dismissing everything his brother had said. His fur bristled once more and he lifted his tail up dominantly above his back. His brother might have been larger and stronger but he refused to back down to the male. He had done that one too many times in his life already.

Laike continued to question him, which only worked to get Lorcan more riled up. “No!” He retorted quickly, stepping forwards to snap his jaws towards the male. Then came the final question, one which struck a chord in the agouti male. Was that a threat?! In that moment his blood began to boil. Lorcan might have ran away due to his brothers bullying before, but this time he would not be going anywhere, no matter how bad things got. He had made a promise to Inna, and to himself, that he would stick around to look after their pups. His pups. Not Aleksei, nor Laike, was going to stop him from seeing his offspring. Golden eyes narrowed on his brother and a ferocious snarl erupted from his chest as Lorcan suddenly lunged forwards. This time he was not aiming to simply barge his brother aside, no, he was lunging right for him with his jaws gaping wide.

RE: how you remind me - Laike - Apr 19, 2017

Mature Language used!! @Lorcan lemme know if anything needs to be changed/doesn't fit what we decided

Laike truly didn't give a shit about his brother flashing his teeth or waving dominance around because, in the end, Laike had power. He always had. Even when they were still yearlings Tikhon would give a little protest but Lorcan? Lorcan didn't even try to be half the man he was trying to be now. There still had been no clear answer on when his brother got so bold and brash. Instead, the golden-eyed brother wanted to shove each other. With Laike's mass, he could easily do that all day. That didn't mean he was going to.

He watched with ease, not physically getting as riled up as his brother obviously was. It was obvious Laike was shoving his brother into a corner but what else was he to do? Pretend everything was dandy and go skipping through the woods singing cheerfully? That didn't seem as realistic as this.

The older brother didn't appreciate his brother's lack of real answers but before he could do anything jaws flew open. He felt Lorcan's teeth on his shoulder and began to violently shake his body. Laike knew he could have slammed them both into a nearby tree but he wasn't in the mood to 'accidentally' kill someone. So once he was freed from the grasp he snarled with great ferocity. "I'm done with your bullshit." He growled as his tail lashed about angrily. "Real men don't bite through all of their problems, Lorcan. When you're ready to give me some real fucking answers you can seek me out yourself." If his brother still wanted help dragging that deer all the way home then he would need someone else because Laike wasn't sticking around if all his brother wanted to do was snap his jaws.

RE: how you remind me - Lorcan - Apr 19, 2017

Jaws parted white and Lorcan lunged forwards, a fierceness in his golden glare that hinted at just how much he despised his brother being there. Nostrils flared in victory as he felt his fangs bury deep into the broad shoulder of his larger sibling. A low growl rumbled from the very depths of his chest as he clung on with everything he had whilst Laike shook his body violently from side to side to try and break free. Lorcan’s vice like grip was only able to last so long and inevitably his hold slipped, causing him to stumble off to one side.

Moving his paws quickly to steady himself and regain a defensive posture, Lorcan held his head low to the ground and snarled, fully prepared to receive whatever assault his brother was prepared to dish out. An attack never came though. Pale brows pushed into a deeper frown, completely confused as to why @Laike had not lunged for him already, as he listened to his larger brother bring about a sudden end to their brawl. Pearl white fangs remained bared as he watched Laike move to take his leave, half expecting for the large male to turn back around at any moment.

“You’re not going to get any answers out of me!” He hissed, golden eyes narrowing upon his brother’s back as he watched him move away. He felt a twinge of pride then at the sudden realisation of what he’d just done. For the first time in his life, he’d stood up to one of his brothers... and it felt great
