Birds of a feather - Askan - Jun 17, 2017

for @Aleksei Inspired by the RE: you happen to see two bald eagles engaging in a mating ritual. Note, we will not be claiming RE LP for this thread, as it's one of May's REs.

Askan scoffed at the saying that 'time healed all wounds.'

As if it could ever be that easy. Months had passed and he still felt the pain as same as ever, it lingered in the back of his mind, and like an opportunistic predator it slithered out whenever he showed a sign-no matter how small-of weakness. It was difficult, there was no denying that, and at times he just felt like giving in and wallowing in self pity like he had before. But he couldn't, it seemed like the easy way out. As though he was letting Savion's actions hold sway over him even though he was dead and gone and rotting in the ground.

Askan was a survivor through and through. It probably didn't count for much in the grand scheme of things, but he'd keep the Selwyn name alive. Out of sheer stubbornness if he had to.

Huffing a sigh, Askan flopped down onto his haunches and turned his attention to the tundra below. The view from the lookout was as majestic as ever, so much so that he'd be lying if he claimed that he hadn't missed this. The sense of freedom and space the rolling hills blessed them with was like a breath of fresh air. He loved his home with all of his heart, and so couldn't help but resent himself a little for letting it go to waste. He'd make up for lost time and he'd have a damn good time as he did so, or his name wasn't Askan Selwyn.

A shrill cry caught his attention and he glanced up to see two eagles-by the look of it-fighting? Or at least that was what seemed to be happening? They were clawing at each other, grabbing one another with their talons and swinging them around in the sky as they fell. The hell? Askan squinted and climbed to his feet, as though that would help him get a better look. It didn't, not really.
