i'm not scared to be seen - Pip - Feb 02, 2018

[dohtml]

Ever since her encounter with @Lavender and @Lachesis, the little mute had remained in the Kingsfall like a tiny planet orbiting a much larger sun. The pack didn't seem overly bothered by her presence, so she'd followed them from afar when they made a move on the other side of Turtleback Lake at the base of the mountain range. With the care given - and the additional help from @Reid against a pair of coyotes - Pip was stronger than she'd been since she first became separated from her family. While still thin, the little mute was better able to manage the cold and fend for herself. Time among other wolves gave her body the time it needed to heal, but also some of her heart and mind as well.

Solitude didn't suit Pip at all, but she also had no intention of joining a pack. To tie herself down to one place would keep her from searching for Kjell, Kyrios, and Aegir. She had to be able to move on when the need suited her. Joining a pack was counterproductive to that goal, no matter how much she enjoyed their presence.

But that didn't mean she couldn't thank them. Without a doubt, their involvement had saved her life.

The little mute felt she was near their new borders - it was hard to tell as their scent didn't perforate her senses as readily as it had in Kingsfall - and stopped short. The hefty arctic char in her mouth gave a last dying thrash that shocked her. Pip had thought it dead several minutes before, but she felt it hang limp again. Anyone who didn't know of Pip's excellent fishing skills would have to assume she had stolen the kill from a grizzly due to its size. The red-bellied salmonid's length nearly matched that of her torso and it weighed almost fifteen pounds.

She shifted back and forth on her paws, unwilling to leave the gift on its own and also unwilling to cross into territory without invitation. Russet ears perked at the sound of approaching pawsteps. A patrol? Her tail wagged with relief. Perfect timing! They could take the gift back to the pack!

Since they had moved the new borders needed to be marked more frequently and patrolled more often. They were new to the area so someone wasn't going to know about there presence yet and that meant that someone was bound to cross over. So with that in mind, Reid had been patrolling quite a bit. Plus, it gave him a chance to know his new home a bit better as well.

Humming under his breath he padded forward not all that fast either since he wanted to see the scenery. It wasn't until he rounded some of the bushes did he see the familiar form that was waiting at the edge. His eyes widened a bit in surprise but a smile spread across his face as he moved forward. She was caring a fish and a rather large one at that. It looked almost too big for her to carry and he couldn't help but wonder how she had acquired it. Had she managed to snag it from someone or had she actually been able to catch it on her own? Besides what she was carrying it looked like she was waiting for someone since she was right at the border and looking at him expectantly.

Nice fish you have there. He told her. Reid had no idea what kind it was because even though he could fish himself to him a fish was a fish. Did you come to visit or did you want something? He asked her making sure to keep a good pause between the two questions so that she would be able to shake her head at the appropriate one. She must want something he just wasn't sure why there was a fish involved in that something. He could guess but he wasn't about to try and take it from her.

There is a moose carcass that has been scavenged by coyotes nearby. +15 Health

Pip was even happier to see a familiar face! That took out the stress of having to try to explain herself to someone new and have them realize she had no voice to communicate with. The red wolf's arrival earned an excited little hop in place as her tail wagged wildly. She even turned in quick circles to further show her happiness. With him here, he could take the catch right to the pack and she'd have no concerns as to whether or not it would be received. Had it been someone else, who knew... While Pip liked to think the best of others, her time on her own had taught her not every wolf was kind.

At Reid's question, Pip looked back to the arctic char. She hopped again. Yes, yes! The agouti bent down to scoop up the fat fish and carried it to Reid's paws. Surely he wouldn't mind her tiptoeing over the borders to give him the offering...

Once it was set down for him, she quickly backed up and wagged her tail proudly. It had been a good fight for sure! The char was a monster and the pack that had done so much for her certainly deserved it. She hoped the red male would pass it along to Lachesis and Lavender, too, that she'd brought it by for all of them as thank you for their kindness.

At his approach, she immediately began to hop in excitement and Reid's smile grew larger. Then she proceeded to do circles and he laughed in amusement. If everyone was as excited to see him as she was then things would be a lot more interesting. Too bad she was the only one that had given him this treatment. I didn't think I would get the special greeting. He told her eyes dancing with merriment. She must not be doing so bad if she had even energy to do all that.

His question gained more hopping and Reid chuckled. Whatever she was here for it must be good. Then she grabbed the fish and crossed the border to place it near his paws before immediately backtracking into the unclaimed area once more. She looked so proud of herself and Reid looked from her to the fish. It was quite obvious that she was giving it to them. No one would be able to misunderstand her intentions on this one.

Thank you very much Speedy. He responded dipping his head in gratitude. I'll make sure to let everyone know so that they can be in awe of your fishing skills. He would also have to explain why her scent had crossed the border anyway. So two birds with one stone. Also then they wouldn't expect him to catch a fish like this because he sure as heck wouldn't be able to do it.

Maybe you'll have to give me fishing lessons because in comparison its obvious that I'm lacking. He told her with a light laugh. If she could teach him how to catch fish this big any amount of lessons would be worth it.
