nothing is gonna hold us back - Niyol - Mar 18, 2018

[dohtml]

Random Event! A cold snap seizes Relic Lore in its icy grip!

Niyol stared up at the cliff-face, utterly perplexed. He'd spent all that time and energy travelling away from the forests and towards the mountain only to come across a seemingly dead end. The large male's tail lashed out behind him through the falling snow in agitation. A loud snort resulted in a cloud of hot air billowing out from his cold nose as he gazed upwards to the rock again, utterly determined not to be beaten. Normally Niyol exercised patience, but the bitterly cold weather that had rolled in over night had made him desperate to keep moving in search of more permanent shelter. Pale brows furrowed as his burnt orange eyes began to search along the bottom half of the cliff-face for any sign of a pathway leading up.

The male refused to believe that there was no other alternative than to waste time finding another route up the mountain. He'd seen mountain goats scale natural obstacles similar to this one before, so there was no reason why he couldn't. He just had to find the safest and easiest route up, and Niyol was never one to back down from a challenge.

He wandered from his brother's side briefly, content to search in one direction for a little bit. But like a tetherball, he seemed to have a way of coming back around. His strides were long as he came upon his lighter-toned brother. A low woof was all he offered for lengthy words were far too much for a simple greeting.

Before he could fully reach his brother's side, Ti-Ti found himself halting. There was a rather large obstruction in their way. One that the younger brother had not planned for and from the looks of it Ni hadn't either. He tilted his head back to examine the stone wall in all of its glory. Ti-Ti supposed they were lucky to have found it from below and not from above.

"Can we get up?" He finally broke the silence as his tail gave an annoyed flick and a huff escaped him.

Niyol smelt his brother approaching long before he loped up behind him. Still, he was appreciative of the low woof his darker sibling offered him as he finally arrived. The pair of them might have often travelled at different paces, but they always found each other again eventually. The brown and silver male diverted his focus away from the steep cliffs for a brief moment to turn his burnt orange gaze towards his brother, watching as he moved in closer.

A single brown ear flicked back at Kanti's question. His eyes scanned the rock again, narrowing stubbornly. "There must be a path around here somewhere..." It was muttered more to himself than anything, but it worked just as well as an answer. Moving away from his darker brother's side, Niyol began to inspect the bottom of the cliff-face more closely, moving along its edge and sniffing at the stone. If mountains goats were indeed scaling the cliffs, they would leave a scent trail behind.

His brother was right, there had to be some sort of path. It was just a matter of finding it that was going to be a challenge. He reared up on his hind legs, letting his front paws settle on the stone as his neck craned. Dull orange eyes looked for some sort of path or marker. They could always go back the way they came and try a different route but that sounded painfully dull.

He dropped down back onto all fours a frown etched onto his usually cheery features. "Makes me wish I was a goat." Kanti idly commented with a snort following after. They always seemed to scale the strangest places with ease.

"Do you think we could walk around it? The ground has to level out somewhere." It was a shot in the dark but the darker brother couldn't stand the idea of being stopped now. They had come so far! To have to turn around now when there was still so much to do would be heartbreaking.

Niyol released an impatient huff when he failed to smell any goat tracks along the bottom of the cliff-face. Turning his head, he glanced back around to his brother who was pressing up against the stone with his fore paws. The large male raised a single brow questioningly, before a devilish grin overtook his dark features, white fangs flashing out from behind charcoal lips. "Horns would suit you TiTi, may even make a slight improvement..." The brother teased over his shoulder, tail waving playfully behind him.

The large male gave a few final sniff along the rock before he finally turned full circle to approach his sibling as he raised another question. He slowed only long enough to bump affectionately against his brothers side as he passed by him. "I was hoping we wouldn't have to, but I don't think we have much choice." He admitted, brown ears pressing back against his head as his shoulders gave a soft shrug.

There was no point in wasting any more time. Niyol moved forwards, trailing along the bottom of the steep rock face in the opposite direction he had been sniffing along moments earlier.

A deep chuckle escaped him, filling the silence of the forest. "And I have to say you'd look rather nice with a stubby little tail, Ni." He gave a small wiggle of his rear for emphasis as a cheeky grin spread across his silver tinted face. What a duo they would make with such strange features. Horns? On a wolf? Completely impossible! A stubby tail seemed far more in the realms of likelihood though...

TiTi was quick to follow after his brother, a certain kind of pep in his step. There was only so much sniffing they could do and certainly if there had been something worthwhile they would have found it by now. No creature could be that elusive with their trails, could they?

"Think the cold is ever going away?" He asked with a curious tilt of his head. It was hard to ignore the chill that had rolled back in overnight. His head turned back and forth, almost expecting a blizzard to appear just to rain on the boy's parade even more. It would only be fitting.

A dark grin spread across the large male's features as he shot a challenging look across to his brother, eyeing his waving tail. "Don't even think about it." He warned, a slight frown pulling at his pale brows as he swished his own tail behind him. Kanti was only joking of course, though Niyol wouldn't put it past his sibling to try to take a little nip off the end of his tail when he wasn't looking.

Moving further along the bottom of the cliff-face, Niyol kept his burnt orange eyes peeled for any signs of a pathway leading up the mountain. A single brown ear flickered backwards as he caught his brother's question about the weather. His gaze diverted away from the mountain momentarily as he glanced up towards the dark clouded sky. "It has to." He began, his voice wavering slightly as he questioned it himself. "Though if it doesn't, I'm sure we'll come across a pack sooner or later." He assured Kanti, turning his head to flash his brother a knowing smirk over his shoulder.

Focusing back on the mountain, his orange eyes narrowed as he spotted a single hoof mark in the dust and rubble. Immediately his ears pricked up in interest and he prowled closer to investigate. A narrow, steep path left behind by mountain goats could be seen trailing up the side of the cliff. He turned against to motion for his @Kanti to inspect it with him, curious to see if he would be willing to risk the climb.
