i'm headed straight for the castle - Lekalta - Apr 09, 2018

@Deacon and Lekalta are looking to join!
The two lone wolves had laid low for a few days, seemingly ignoring the elephant in the room that it was very likely Lekalta now carried life within her. She found herself nauseous – but otherwise fine, and while she held no regrets for either of their actions, as both knew what the outcome would be, she wasn’t yet willing to discuss what it meant for either of them. Friends? Lovers? The honeyed she-wolf had never been one to back down from her uncertainties.. proving to be rather belligerent. But this, she let go to the wayside for now.

At least, until other matters were settled.

They traveled slowly toward the lowlands, and the tawny Baranski felt a flutter of concern in her breast. Despite Wild Rye Fields being friend to her mother, it didn’t mean they would have room for her and Deacon, let alone their litter. But they had to start somewhere, and so as they stood along the borders of the fields pack, the she-wolf cast her companion a small glance, her wolfish brows arching as she studied the handsome male. “This is it,” she murmured, flicking the tip of her tail in the cool spring air. With that, Lekalta tipped her muzzle back, calling for the wolves her mother had once bargained an alliance with.

He was content to ignore the growing elephant in the room if she was. Whether it the situation ever properly addressed or not didn't really matter to him. He had promised that they would start new together, stick with each other. It didn't matter to him if they did it as friends or lovers.

His large form halted by her side, close enough to be touched but not outright touching her. He didn't wish to smother her. The male let his head tip softly as he glanced over at Lekalta. “This is it,” He gave a reassuring smile before allowing his own voice to join hers, making it clear to the wolves here that there wasn't just one but two at their borders.

Now came the worst part, waiting. While he kept a cool exterior, he was nervous and practically crawling in his skin.

While he was not a social kind of wolf, the calls were appreciated. The Rye's ranks could use some bodies. Although he still felt hesitant to welcome anyone. His other half - @Adelayde - had a better eye for these border situations and he hoped that she would arrive on the scene before him. Or even @Jessie who had leagues more of experience than him.

On the borders were two far different looking wolves, one dark and built like a tank while the other was lean and painted in lighter, earthy colors. They looked healthy though despite the lack of pack scent which would mean they could pull their weight without an excuse.

He halted in front of the pair, his stance strong and dominant. It seemed he had been the first on the scene today. What brings you to Wild Rye Fields? The large Artemieva asked while one of his pale brows raised.

Normally, the tawny woman would be the first to greet any calls at the borders. She made it a priority to be one of the first to arrive on the scene, either to give them a friendly representative or a quick protective boot away from their doorstep. Though the new mother was suffering through a boat of nausea when the beckoning howls reached her ears. Once she recovered and buried her mess, she was off at gentle trot to reach the borders in time and to not encourage her nauseous stomach to make her sick again.

Grabbing a quick drink at the creek to rinse her mouth out, she continued on her way to meet the two that waited at the Rye doorstep. Adelayde was pleasantly surprised to see her husband already attending to the couple. He was just as diligent and alert as she was to anyone around the Rye with the potential to be too close for comfort, which made her and the growing children inside her feel protected by the pale agouti male.

As she came alongside her husband, her stance dominant, she let her muzzle run the length of his shoulder to his cheek before planting a sweet kiss on the side of his muzzle. Her mismatched gaze then turned to the pair, a smile crossing her ebony lips as she waited for their response  from Laike's question.

RE: i'm headed straight for the castle - Jessie - Apr 14, 2018

She was exhausted. The Rye Queen could feel it in her body and see it in her face whenever she bent down to drink from the stream that ran through the Rye. Every day she woke up with the reminder that Drestig was no longer with them. She had become use to waking up with him by her side and now that he was gone she felt like another part of her heart was gone. All that kept her going was knowing that her children were there and she had a pack that needed to be kept afloat. Wild Rye Fields was her deceased husband's pride and joy. The monochrome woman wanted to do everything in her power to keep the Rye alive.

She was on a border run, similar thoughts running through her mind, when a call sounded from the borders. It was unfamiliar to her but held resounding purpose. Despite her exhaustion, curiosity and duty won over. Jessie finished marking the area of the borders and trotted towards where the call sounded, ears twitching. It was common now-a-days for Laike and Adelayde to be the first on the scene; they had been an integral part of keeping the Rye together after Drestig's death. So when they came into view near the borders of where the strangers called, it was no surprise to Jessie. The Tainn's tail swayed above her back as she stepped forward, looking at the loners individually before settling on the female, instantly doing a double-take. The mother swallowed before regaining herself, a frown pulling on her lips. Had she not known better she would have said she was looking at Kisla, but that was not possible.

Jessie had never met Kisla's children nor had she the opportunity to speak with her ally about them. It would do her no good to make assumptions and so, even if the question had already been asked, she did again, "What are your names?" While she looked between the two, in the end, the Rye Queen's gaze settled back on the tawny woman.

RE: i'm headed straight for the castle - Lekalta - Apr 25, 2018

Ugh, sorry. Life exploded a bit there with a really sick baby.. But we're on the mend now!
Deacon remained quiet – she had grown accustom to this, and as his own song joined and faded with hers, she felt her ears flicker back to her skull, pushing down the wave of anxiety at joining a pack while likely pregnant – the nausea that coiled in her stomach was likely not just from her apprehension, and she wondered if the pack wolves would know – and if she should disclose it.

Of course she should. Lekalta was many things, but she had always held her honesty at the forefront of her morals. But it wasn’t a conversation she looked forward to.

They were met by a hefty wolf – not larger than her own paramour companion, but certainly one who shadowed over her. She dipped herself lower, submission a natural act for the Baranski who had been raised to respect the hierarchy above all else from her parents. “Hi,” she offered, about to delve in to their reasons for calling him when two others came – one, a rather beautiful she-wolf who seemed to glow, sweeping up alongside the large wolf that had initially met them. Mates, she wondered, as she watched the spark of familiarity between them, and feeling a twinge of envy. She didn’t realize how much she missed the companionship of a pack.

The last one to come to them was dishevelled in a way, fatigued, it would seem, and also meeting the potential joiners with a light frown. She was no doubt the leading female of the pack – her tail arced higher, and her presence commanded attention. “I’m Lekalta, and this is Deacon,” she offered, her slender muzzle swinging in the direction of her swarthy companion. “We were hoping to join your ranks. My mother was friends with the leaders here – she had an alliance with Drestig. Is he here?” She recalled the dark male – having met him once, as he was scouting out the potential of forming his own pack. Little did she know she had just put her foot in her mouth.

Instinctively he wanted to size up the other male the moment he arrived, see him more as a threat than someone who may help them. But he was forced to choke back that instinct. He followed Lekalta's movements. His stance lowered enough to get the message across but he was not about to grovel on this pack's doorstep.

The question was fair and Deacon was sure his partner would have gladly answered had two females not shown up soon after. He glanced at both of them - just to see who they might be - but his gaze eventually returned to looking at the earth.

He was content to let his more graceful counterpart do the talking. It was only the mention of his name that made him offer a gentle smile and soft nod of his head. Perhaps he should have thrown his own two cents down, been a bit more openly supportive. He just couldn't bring himself to speak was all.

Lekalta -> Deacon -> Laike -> Adelayde -> Jessie

Laike Artemieva
i remember, i remember the days
when i'd make you oh so afraid

Maybe he should have recognized her but he supposed in his time at Hearthwood they had never crossed paths. She was just another stranger accompanied by another stranger. He appreciated their lowered stances. If everyone had wits about them this could be smooth sailing and things could be sorted out.

Before they could carry on he was greeted by a familiar touch. He did not return her affections as boldly but the brief sway of his tail and slight glance towards her would express his feelings. It was the words of Jessie that caught him off guard. He knew she was a strong creature but he had hoped that she'd perhaps let him carry some of the burdens of these border meetings. Heavens knew the last one was...less than savory.

It was the words of the youngest female that caught his attention. She spoke a name that he was not sure he had heard since the old lead male's passing. I'm afraid he isn't. He made sure to answer swiftly while not pouring all the details out for these two loners. Who is your mother? The Artemieva asked as his gaze lingered on the more talkative one of the pair before them.

This border encounter was already sailing better than the previous one had, as both strangers respected the pack wolves, their postures submissive. Laike's glance was all she needed to be greeted, he was always one for formalities especially in front of strangers. In their alone time, he had a different side to him that only Adelayde could see and appreciate.

No surprisingly, Jessie was quick to join them upon the borders, a frown heavy on her lips. Ocean gaze softened as she looked over her leader. Allowing the Rye leaders to take charge of this conversation, Ade settled next to her husband. Tawny ears perked as she listened to both sides. When the female mentioned Dresitig, her ears folded back against her crown for a moment before Laike addressed that he wasn't here. Adelayde forced herself not to glance at Jessie, she didn't want to make Jessie even more uncomfortable. The loyal second knew the salt and peppered woman was strong, but Ade knew how painful it was to lose a loved one.
