Kyna was starting to think she should have gone west off the mountainside, not east. Going down was always easier than going up, and here she was, late in the afternoon…and not a damn thing to show for it. The pups’ birth was growing closer and closer – if she didn’t damn well explode before that – and she’d just, she’d wanted…

But Greer and Revon hadn’t been around when the notion struck her, and she hadn’t felt like bothering her other pack mates. There were so few of them, and there was so much to do that she couldn’t… A little foraging seemed like something she could manage.

Kyna sighed loudly, plopping her haunches against the hard ground, and glanced back in the direction of her home.

“This was a mistake.”

She didn’t even have what she’d come for.
