i left her with a broken heart [BWP] - Lonan - Jul 07, 2018 Afternoon, Light Rain, 64.4°F, 18°C. All welcome for 1-2 others.
A light afternoon rain prompted the young male to move closer towards the tall, spindly trees which enclosed the small meadow he had been trying to hunt in.
Sheltering beneath the sparse, tapered canopy of a single alpine larch tree, his shoulders hunched forwards as he hesitantly shifted down into a sit. Quietly, Lonán took a moment compose himself — to bury down his frustration at not having scavenged a meal yet. It was a task which was made more of a challenge, considering that his stomach would not stop growling. Tired orange eyes glanced up towards a raven as it came to perch up on a branch above him. As it cawed loudly, the heavy flapping of its onyx wings sending a flurry of pine needles down towards the dark yearling. Frowning, Lonán's gaze drifted back down to inspect the mess the bird had caused to his coat. He released another long sigh before beginning the painstaking task of removing each tiny pine needle, along with all the other dirt and debris, from his fur. It had been weeks since he had last taken the time to properly groom himself. Curiously, he glanced up to the large bird, his brows furrowing in annoyance as he anticipated a second shower of itchy pine needles to fall down on him. However, the dark green foliage drifting down towards his partially-groomed coat were hardly noticed by the yearling as he instead focused on what had the raven so flustered.
An anxious feeling stirred up in his stomach as his orange eyes moved to stare off in the same direction the scavenger was focused on. Lonán spotted the pale, slender figure of the female just as she barked her announcement. Immediately his dark ears flattened and he found himself close to panic. He had done well to avoid other wolves (pack wolves in particular) up until now, fearing that he would inadvertently offend one of them with his presence. Now that he had been confronted though, Lonán was unsure how to react. Quickly standing up, to show that he had indeed heard her bark, the dark male hesitantly stepped forwards out from the shelter of the alpine larch tree and into the rain. Ears were pressed submissively against his head and his tail waved nervously by his ankles as waited anxiously for the female to approach him. If she came close enough, Lonán would crouch down — even roll over if he had to — anything to avoid violent confrontation. RE: i left her with a broken heart - Lonan - Jul 07, 2018 As the pale female crept closer, Lonán slunk down lower towards the ground, pressing his white tipped chest to the damp grass. She might have been smaller than him, but she was in comparatively better condition — and the scent of other wolves (around ten others, at least) lingering on the yearling's pelt explained why. She was a pack wolf. Lonán inhaled sharply, taking in another lungful of damp air, as his orange eyes darted around behind her to confirm that she was the only one of her pack to have discovered him.
At her question, the male's gaze returned to briefly focus on the dandelion yellow of her eyes, before they flickered down to his muddy paws. "Lonán." He replied nervously. Dark brows lifted expectantly, waiting to see if she would offer him her own name before he dared to try and ask his own question. "You smell that?" He asked suddenly, looking back up at her. It wasn't the question he had been meaning to ask her, but, at that very moment a sudden breeze had brought with it the scent of a large band of coyotes — something that proved impossible for the young male to ignore. RE: i left her with a broken heart [BWP] - Bellatrix - Jul 07, 2018 [dohtml] [/dohtml] RE: i left her with a broken heart [BWP] - Lonan - Jul 07, 2018 Lonán flinched a little when the female scowled at him, confirming that she had indeed caught scent of the coyotes. Orange eyes quickly darted back down to the dewy grass, unsure of how he had seemingly managed to offend the pack wolf already. He remained silent and listened as she explained how the lands had been overrun with the smaller canines. The information caused his eyes to widen briefly in realisation. It would, after all, explain why he had been finding it so hard to come across any food. The coyotes must have licked every bone clean.
The young male wrinkled his muzzle, his skinny tail curling tighter between his legs. It was only now that he was beginning to realise how dire his circumstances really were, and suddenly, he couldn't help but feel all the more overwhelmed by it all. Lonán sniffled, and swallowed back the sick feeling that was now welling up in his throat. He looked back blankly at the female when she asked him where he was headed, clearly having no answer, though his orange eyes soon flashed with panic the moment she mentioned the potential of him becoming coyote food. Lonán couldn't tell if she was just teasing him, trying to scare him on purpose. However, he was sure that he did not wish to stick around the small meadow long enough to find out. The dark male stuttered for an answer. "I, er, I-I don't know." He admitted, looking more than a little worried. "Do you know of someplace I could go t-to avoid running into them?" Lonán wasn't entirely sure if he trusted the pack wolf to give him an honest answer, but he was desperate, and at this point he was more than willing to give it a try. RE: i left her with a broken heart [BWP] - Bellatrix - Jul 08, 2018 [dohtml] [/dohtml] RE: i left her with a broken heart [BWP] - Lonan - Jul 08, 2018 Dark ears perked up as the pale female mentioned that there were two packs located nearby, one of which being the pack that she belonged to. The other being, well, from what she described it as... much less appealing. Lonán frowned and scrunched his face up, before slowly shaking his head. Whilst he hadn't planned on joining a pack so soon on his travels, with the coyotes wandering around causing trouble, he felt like he had few other options if he wanted to stay alive — being eaten alive certainly didn't sound like a nice way to go.
Focusing back on the female, dark charcoal lips parted as he went to ask her about the pack she belonged to, when he was swiftly interrupted. Nostrils flared as he took in another lungful of moist air, noticing too how the scent of the coyotes had grown in strength as they closed in on their location — encouragement enough for him to move. He nodded in agreement and hesitantly took a step forwards toward the small female, still crouching low so's not to stand at his full height beside her. His skinny tail waved nervously behind him as he sought out her bright dandelion gaze again. "So, uh, what's your pack like?" He asked, an obvious indication that he was interested in following her. |
