RE: nowhere to go but up - Mako - Oct 01, 2018

Mako couldn't help but release a small sigh of relief as the young wolf gave a straightforward response for once. Mako watched as the yearling disappeared into the foliage around him, one ear tuned towards the male's quiet pawsteps and the other towards the stumbling fawn's much louder sounds. Mako leaned his high center of gravity downwards, trying to minimize his size the best he could as he crept forward into the deer's path. Not long after the yearling disappeared did Mako hear the first sounds of pursuit, paws and hooves kicking at the earth. Mako's heart involuntarily sped up in excitement, as easy as this should be it was hard not to get swept up by the hunt.

Mako waited one heartbeat, two, before he saw the pair burst out of the forest before him. Mako reared up, launching himself towards the fawn. The Coho easily dwarfed it in size, his jaws easily wrapping around it's thin neck as it began to kick and flail.

When the other man came into view, Vaken darted beside the fawn, leading it right towards him. When Mako made the first jump, Vaken quickly followed. He leapt to grab the prey by its spine, tempting to rip at its flank. His teeth sunk into flesh, but his grip was lose and he fumbled to the ground. He hadn’t managed to bring the fawn down with him, but it didn’t matter. It was clear the other wolf was more successful with his strength.

Vaken quickly moved himself forward so that he could aim for the throat too. It was obvious that was where his focus was most needed. If he could help open the flesh, the creature would bleed out and become weak. He jumped again, kicking off his back legs to grab at the small deer’s neck. He tried to stay out of Mako’s way, knowing the other male was larger and more built for this sort of activity. He didn’t want to wait around though, so he jumped up and grabbed hold too. He followed the other wolf’s lead, kicking his back legs at the creature’s side to try and toss him off balance.
