Spring has sprung - Finn - Mar 14, 2012

The sound of rushing water entered the she-wolf's auds as
she padded along. She licked her maw, already able to taste
the cool water in her mouth. Tail lifting and flicking here and
there, she approached the shallow pool of water at the bottom
of the falls. The water rippled, shimmering beautifully in the
soft spring sunlight. The gray-silver wolf lowered her elegant
cranium, jaws parting and pink tongue slipping from her mouth
to lap up the water. It was fresh and crisp- very refreshing.
She eyed her reflection, smiling a bit.

This area was beautiful. She could stay near these falls all day.
Now that the spring had arrived, Finn enjoyed being near water
as much as she could. She was experienced with fishing, a
skill her father had her hone. Slowly bringing her head up, Finn
kept her cocoa eyes on the water. Small fish darted by, and she
followed them, eyes flicking as they did. The petite wolf seated
herself, resting softly on her hind haunches. Black-tipped tail
gingerly rested on the ground straight behind her rump. The
wolf softly sighed, observing the falls. The water rushed down
at a constant pace, diving into the pool below. She widened
her deep ebon nostrils, taking in the scent of the fresh water.
It reminded her of a fresh rain, a scent she rarely got to
experience in her home land.

The light coloured male was slowly limping his way back to his pack, following the base of the mountain. Once he reached the falls he would turn toward home and take the most direct route there. As much as he didn't want to turn to either of the pack healers, Rhysis's new play thing had really torn into his hide and while the bleeding had stopped, if he strode too long or moved the wrong way, the wounds down his flank would reopen. As if that wasn't enough, the deeper gouges on his stomach were also pulling and he cursed himself. That was the last time he tried to do the younger wolf a favour. Next time he could run himself off a cliff. He knew it was all thoughts now, but he would never truly let it happen.

The sound of falling water caught his ear as he continued to limp forwards. He lowered his head to lap at the water, ignoring his nose which told him there as a female nearby. Between the tawny bitch and Hawke he had had enough of females to last him a lifetime, but he couldn't deny his curiosity and he chanced a glance at the lady nearby.

Finn continued to watch the small fish until a larger one appeared.
Her tail wagged slightly, but she contained her excitement. Feel-
ing her stomach growl and beg for food, she was about to take
action. Her eagle-eye gaze kept focus on the fish, predicting
precisely where it was in the water. She shot her head a few
inches forward and down, splashing into the cool water.
Success. She felt the fish between her jaws, and she
clamped her mouth shut. The rough feel of the scales scraped
her tongue as the fish wriggled wildly.

She brought her head back up out of the water, gray-silver
head soaked. Turning, she waded out of the pool, dropping
her fish as the scent and sight of an injured male wolf entered
her field of vision. She felt her hackles stand on end.

" 'Lo there!" she called out, old western accent full of
concern. Her light chocolate eyes grew soft, and she held
still in case the wolf was to be aggressive. "You ok?
Ya seem really dragged out..."
she tilted her head, water
droplets dripping slowly from her fur.

Of course she wants to talk... he thought to himself with a small smile. Perhaps he would be lucky enough to get some scars from his encounter with the devil woman? That was ok though, the ladies seemed to dig scars and he was sure he could concoct some far flung story about an epic battle with a grizzly or a cougar... or maybe an entire pack trying to steal some puppies... but for now, he would be the joker he was at heart.

"Oh this? Its nothing..." he said with a charming smile to the small grey lady, pushing the pain to the back of his mind. Yep, last time he even tried to help anyone but himself. Well, he would have his own pack soon. Staying in place, happily dry upon the banks of the falls he continued to observe. She seemed to be quite the fisher, something he had never taken interest in himself. There was something about the way she spoke as well, it was almost similar to Rhysis with a more... old worldsy way with words. Not bad... he thought to himself. "So uh, you like fishing?" it was a stupid, stupid question to ask, but he wasn't completely in his right mind at the moment. Nothing a decent painless sleep wouldn't fix...

Finn could not understand some men. Whenever they app-
eared to be injured, they always said they were fine.
She rolled her eyes briefly, recalling when her brother took
a hit from a bison. She looked back to her fish when the male
asked her if she enjoyed the sport. "Why yes, I do." she
replied simply. She turned away for a moment from the man,
retrieving her fish. Jaws like a mouse trap snapped it up.
She ate fish often, only because to her, it was a very easy
meal. Her tail flicked in satisfaction, before she turned around
again.

Finn shook her pelt out before looking at the male's wounds
again. She felt herself blush, and she looked away.
" 'Pologies" she said, voice almost inaudible. She
wanted to help the wolf, but he was a complete stranger-
why would he accept assistance from her? " 'The hell did
ya get such wounds?"
she questioned, trying to eliminate
the concern from her tones. She did not want to sound like
a worried mother.

He didn't really want to talk about what had caused his injuries so he decided to dismiss them with a partial truth. "Wounded boar..." he said with a mild hint of sarcasm to his voice. She wasn't wounded, but she attacked like a boar. "Sorry, trying to help out a friend and it backfired..." he admitted more honestly this time. He was a little sore, but he was sure he would be just fine.

"So where are you from then? You don't sound like you're from around here?" he questioned now slightly intrigued. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to stop and rest for a moment...

Finn listened as the wolf told her what had happened. Frowning
slightly, she took a step back towards the water "Sorry that
happened to ya."
she said, sounding sympathetic. She look-
ed back to the glistening pool of water, black-tipped bushy tail
flicking before she parted her jaws "Shame a handsome gent
like yourself gets all banged up."
a coy smirk came 'cross her
lips before she shooed it away, smooth brown eyes gazing at
the man. The wolf now stepped forth, elegant frame moving with
grace as she walked around the side of the wolf, observing his
wounds. She winced, imagining how sore it must be.

"Name is Finn, by the way.... not sure if you care. I'm from the West. My old
clan spoke the way I do."
she felt her chest puff outwards
in a bit of pride as she spoke of her home pack. Memories
raced through her head, almost pulling her ebon lips into
a grin.

He was sure the wounds weren't as bad as he was thought right now, he was just feeling sorry for himself, and it was still such a long way to home. So she thought he was handsome even in his beaten state? The boost to his ego was more than welcome and he flashed her a handsome grin to show his appreciation. It was only now he realised how brown her eyes were. It was a pleasant change from the blues and greens he had been encountering recently.

"Well Finn, pleasure to make your acquaintance, my name is Valiant..." he said as he sunk to his haunches and fighting down a small wince as his wounds pulled but didn't open. Even his muzzle was lightly bruised from where Rhysis had clamped him with his initial warning about the girl not being for sharing. That was ok though, he wasn't much of a one for sharing himself. "So what brings you this way?"

Finn smiled somewhat, pausing at the seated wolf's side. "Well,
Valiant"
she began, "I just wanted to leave my home land and
see what the world was like outside of it. Now I'm lookin' for a pack."

She took in his scent, and knew that he himself belonged to a pack of
others. Ears fluttered before she tilted her elegant head.

"Am I preventing you from returning to your pack?" she asked,
slightly embarrassed. "If I am, feel free to just go. 'Pologies..."
her eyes fell to the ground, where she looked at her small paws.
Finn now seated herself, rump gingerly touching earth as her haunches
relaxed and allowed her body downwards. The sound of the falls
near them was so soothing; if she had been by herself, she could have
easily fallen into a sound sleep by the waters.

He chuckled at her concern about holding him from his pack. He was never really a pack animal in the lighter sense. Sure, being in a pack made it easier for him in general, more food, security, a defined border where very few would cross you, but at heart he was a true cassanova, happy being a loner and roaming where he would, chasing after whoever he willed. Although he wasn't in much of a state to be chasing after anyone right now.

"No, no. I'm in no hurry..." he said with a cautious stretch. She was very polite, older than Athena, perhaps closer to Hawke in age, minus the crazy. It couldn't help to mention it. "You know, I'm going to have my own pack one day... hopefully soon..." He hoped it would pique her curiosity enough that she would ask the questions from here. Sure he was sore and tired, but that didn't mean he wanted to be rude.
