Oh Raven (Sing Me A Happy Song) - Casper - Mar 14, 2021 Where on earth was he going? Since coming here, he’d just been wandering like some sort of ghost without a place to haunt. He’d considered going over the mountain, to see what was on the other side but a part of him was terrified of venturing over there on his own. He’d heard stories about landslides and other things happening on them and the poor boy was scared he’d become one with the mountain if he attempted to cross it. A mountain burial did not sound very fun to him, thank you very much. So his paws would stay firmly planted in these ghostly woods he’d come across some time ago, having felt some sort of peace in them despite their spooky appearance and vibe that the trees gave off. The quiet that befell the woods was also a welcome respite, as if it was a familiar presence here no matter the season. Light amber eyes trailed here and there lazily over the grouping of trees that gathered around him as he laid in the one sun decent sunspot he’d found in the entire time he’d been here. Some weeks ago now, he’d wandered into the bunch of them completely by accident, having gotten lost in the grabby trees before the white wolf had plopped underneath one out of pure frustration. He’d been tired, angry at himself for losing a meal and most importantly, hungry. So a long deep sleep had ensured after flopping at the base of the tree and by the time his eyes had hazily opened up again, it had been several hours and surprisingly, with his energy replenished, had managed to sniff out an old deer carcass to chew on. It hadn’t been much but Casper figured the woods he’d wandered into were a good place to stay, at least for a short while. That had been a few weeks ago now, maybe a month and so far, Casper had felt little need to wander away from the ghostly woods he’d slowly started calling home. There was a small den dug out underneath some thorny bushes, near the tree he’d initially taken a nap under, and through all his exploring to the east, towards the mountain, he’d found a lake nearby that made up a good chunk of his food and water source. Oh, his fishing skills were atrocious still but they were slowly getting better, never mind the amount of other prey that liked visiting. Old and lame deer were an easy target for the most part, having been weakened due to the harsh winter and lack of enough food. Though he wasn’t always so lucky and often went home cold and wet with a small fish in his belly if he was lucky enough. There were also the rapids to the west that he visited occasionally but he feared falling into the rapids himself and being smashed against unsuspecting rocks sunken beneath the water so he mostly avoided them. Now he was trying to figure out if he felt like getting up and looking for dinner tonight or just sleep some more, as he'd been extremely lucky for once in at least two weeks, having managed to snag a old lame deer by the lake this morning. Most of his meals had been either mostly fish or other small critters so its small, almost bony carcass had been a god send to him. And because of that, after eating his fill, he'd managed to drag its carcass most of the way home before hiding it in some brush. No way was he losing his meal ticket to some hungry bear or other wolves. |
