Ramblin' Fever Down in My Bones - Doon - Apr 07, 2021

Evening | Overcast clouds | 30.2 ° F, -1 ° C | Leftover snow from earlier in the day | SpeechThoughts
It was cold as Death's claws out and Doon was kicking himself for having not decided to settle down earlier where it had still been warm. What really had done it was this drought damned white stuff everywhere! From a distance sure it look similar to sands but then you got close and set your paw in the stuff and quickly realized your mistake. Sure Doon had seen it way earlier in his journey, maybe...several weeks back it'd been now? There'd been no way the male wolf could've known that it would be a permanent thing the further north he went and, by the time he'd considered turning back, he was too deep now. Prey seemed to dislike the stuff as much as he did, slim pickin's the entire time and Doon certainly wasn't looking forward to turning back that way and going through that again. Besides he'd caught the scent of wolves in the area and he hoped that he'd find some like-minded wolves he could join up with, if not then he guessed there was nothing but to turn around and go back the way he'd come.

Earlier in the day Doon had made his way across a meadow while the white flakes had fallen lightly from the sky, it'd been like a sandstorm just slower. Seeing as there was very little cover to be found out on the meadow Doon had stubbornly made for the distant tree line in the hopes that he would find someplace to keep warm for the night, at the very least he wouldn't be so exposed to the flakes. Just as he'd reached the end of the meadow and the beginning of the forest Doon stumbled on a very fortuitous discovery. A large tree with a hole in the trunk with plenty of room for him and it was definitely protected from the severe cold.

"What a find! Doon ol' boy you'll be sleepin' pretty good tonight!" It'd been a long time since Doon had had anyone to talk to, talking to himself had become close to a habit.
