central figures in my life - Marrah - Sep 05, 2021

AW! This is an RE: Marrah, a squirrel keeps interrupting your nap.
Light rain showers, 16C/60F, mid-afternoon

All that remains is the faces and the names

Marrah had not slept well the night before, thunderstorms had once again rocked the Chasm, and the girl was beginning to think that the storms would never end. She wondered if the lands beyond the borders were as stormy as it was here, but she had never been out past the scent markers. It wasn’t safe, and none of the bigs had taken her, they were often busy with big things. The packs numbers were small, and that meant they all had to work very hard to keep things running.

The storms had broken, and going into the afternoon had only left a light shower. Marrah was determined to get a little bit more sleep, and had no interest in leaving her small cavern that she was camped out in. It was dry here, and seeing as it was just big enough for her small chubby body to squeeze into, it had warmed up quickly. It didn’t take long for the pup to begin to drop off into sleep. But, it took equally less time for her to be brought back into awareness at the sound of an annoyed chirping.

Opening her orange eyes in groggy confusion, her gaze was met with an irritated grey squirrel. It was telling her off in a series of chirps and squeaks,a small pile of acorns piled at its stomping feet. The squirrel had been using this cavern as its winter food storage, but Marrah had no way to know that. Instead she huffed at the squirrel and demanded, ”Go away,” then, feeling a little grumpy about being woken up she added, ”Or I’ll eat you.” She wasn’t hungry, and it was an empty threat, but she wanted it to leave so she could go back to sleep.

RE: central figures in my life - Caelyn - Sep 14, 2021

The storms never seemed to end and the land around him was always wet. Caelyn could deal with the wetness as it sometimes made for more fun to be had, but the endless rain was tiresome. At least today, the thunderstorm let up and there were only small rain showers. After trying to find something entertaining to do but coming up short, the pale agouti pup decided to try to find Mar and see if she wanted to play. She would play with him, he was sure, but if not he would try his hardest to make her anyway.

Trampling loudly through the puddles, Caelyn called for his dark coated sister. "Maaaaarrrrrrrrrr!" He didn't really care who else could hear him as long as his sister did. "Marrrraaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!" He yelled even louder. She'll definitely hear that one...

All that remains is the faces and the names

The grey squirrel seemed indifferent to the children’s threat, it just stomped its feet and squeaked at her again. Marrah wrinkled her nose in annoyance and repeated, go away you dumb squirrel!” Weren’t they supposed to be scared of the wolves who were much larger and preyed on them? Marrah was afraid of everything, and it irritated her that she couldn’t even scare away this rodent who had woken her up. Was she really that not intimidating?

Huffing in disappointment, she was about to cover her ears with her paws to try to get back to sleep when a peculiar call rang through the territory. At the demanding voice of her brother, the squirrel abandoned its prizes and took off for safety. That was the final straw, so it could come right up to her and be fine to her threats, but the sound of Caelyn was enough to make it run!?

Scrambling to her paws, she let out a hasty howl to let her brother know where she was and then she set off after the squirrel. She wasn’t hungry, but it had hurt her feelings, and the bigs would be so impressed if they caught something. Maybe with Caelyn’s help they could catch it together. The rain was completely forgotten for the time being.

Right before he was about to turn away in defeat, his cream ears turned at the sound of a disgruntled howl from his sister. Scrambling on his lanky legs, he took off after her call. Running was most definitely not one of his strong suits currently with his overly large paws and limbs that are too long, making Caelyn completely uncoordinated. However, his determination surged through his body as he raced through the forest towards his wayward sister and whatever she was up to.

Cae wasn't confident he would be able to find her after her initial howl, but apparently his dark coated sibling wasn't stationary as he could hear her through the forest running. Was she running from him? Two could play at this game! Taking off as fast as he could manage without falling like an idiot onto his face in mud, he concentrated on her loud movements through the woods. Just as he though he was going to lose her again, Caelyn burst through the brush right behind her bushy dark tail. An excited growl passed through his teeth as he sprinted after her. "Imma getcha now!"

I’m Done Putting Out The Fires You Start

Almost the moment that she finished her return howl, Marrah completely forgot that her brother was even looking for her. Her entire focus was on catching this squirrel who had hurt her feelings and then fled. It was not saying much that this took so much of her attention, running and hunting was not her forte and it probably never would be.

All of this was to say, Caelyn suddenly bursting through the foliage close behind her practically scared her out of her skin. Yelping in panic, Marrah came crashing down into the dirt of the forest floor as she stumbled over her own paws. It dazed her for a second, before she was able to remember what she had been doing, scuttling as quickly as she could back onto her feet. Marrah didn’t look back, just ran in the direction she had seen the rodent go.

Loudly she called, ”Don’t get me, the squirrel!” She hoped her little skid out didn’t let her target get away.
