chain keep us together - Chan - Dec 14, 2021

Random Event: Sanguine Cove, a deer herd is migrating through your territory. Consider this a planned pack hunt! Anyone is welcome, there will be no IC repercussions for not joining. Looking for 2+ others; children are welcome but don't count toward that number.
@Aleister & Lynx @Nash @Aquene @Siyet @Jethro @Oksana & Kajika @Flair & Leo @Kateri @Stella

It was time to make their move on the prey crossing through their stomping grounds. Chan gathered those willing and able to assist and lead them to the herd's respite, a wooded area just south of the lake's shore. They stood in a loose cluster, peeling the bark from the trees and watching their surroundings for any threat to their own young.

The wolves knew this place well, however, and it would be easy for them to approach without being seen. In his own opinion, the pack was all but guaranteed at least one carcass to feed off, if not several. Among the deer were several aged does and many inexperienced fawns; lots of opportunities, in other words.

Chan peered through the dark trunks of the trees and the soft, chunky flakes falling lazily through the air to watch their prey before turning to face those assembled;

"Ready?"

The deer were plentiful right now in the Cove. Because of this it seems Chan had thought this an opportune moment to try and hunt. Siyet wasn't entirely confident in her hunting skills, but she was fast. She could help drive the herd to others who could catch.

As they lay there under the cover of trees, her breath grew heavy with excitement. This was going to be a wonderful opportunity for food. Especially with winter just starting.

She got her legs ready for the chase. Chan asked if she and the others were ready. And she was.

"Just give me the signal Chan."

RE: chain keep us together - Nash - Dec 14, 2021

It was time for another hunt. The last one had gone well enough that Nash was no longer nervous about taking down prey in a group. He knew his skills now, and he could do as he was told. Each hunt was not an opportunity for failure but a chance to learn and grow better. He was quickly learning that he was tired of being afraid of everything.

Nash leaned forward and peered around his brother, scanning the land for an ideal target. So many. Excitement pumped through him; now was a perfect time to repair the damage the damn cougar had done to their caches. He was still angry about that, and even though his hip still ached when he moved wrong at least he could run again.

He flashed Siyet an excited grin and nodded to his brother. "On your word," he said.

RE: chain keep us together - Oksana - Dec 17, 2021

She was a little nervous to be honest. First it was her first pack hunt in a very long time. Second her leg, she worried that it would cause them to fail. No matter how hard she'd worked to make sure it wouldn't get in the way. There was still always that fear. Still she had stepped up to come in this hunt and do her part to help her pack mates. That part of Oksana hadn't ever changed.

She moved to a position to spy on the deer as she waited for Chan's signal. If there was one thing she'd leard coming from the packs she had it was always the leader that had the final say in things. "Ready when you are," she told the Eastfall man. She was ready all she needed were orders to follow and she would do what she needed to.

RE: chain keep us together - Flair - Dec 19, 2021

She could walk now mostly without pain, though she still had to be careful not to get overeager or breathe too deeply. So when Chan came to gather a hunting team, she frowned, grumbling a little at her handicap. Instead, seeing their eagerness, she volunteered to accompany the pups, giving them the chance to participate in the hunt while keeping them out of the thick of it. Leo even offered up a rare, shy smile, at the invitation.

In the first months after their birth, the fiery woman had been deeply uncomfortable and anxious around the pups, having no idea how to deal with them, and deadly afraid of doing something wrong. But with time, she had come to enjoy their company very much, taking the chance to teach whenever it presented itself. Like today.

As the closed in on the herd, she made sure the children kept their heads down and paws still, then looked to Chan, waiting for his signal. In answer to his question, she nodded sternly, turning to look over her shoulder at the youngsters; “You stay with me the whole time, no matter what happens. Except if I ask you to run, then y’ turn tail and head straight to the den, full speed, got it?” Though her words were firm, she had a twinkle in her eye, knowing how exciting this all was to them.

RE: chain keep us together - Leo - Dec 19, 2021

The boy almost couldn’t believe it! Usually, when the adult gathered for a hunt, one or two would stay behind to look after the pups, making sure they didn’t sneak along and get in the way. But today they were allowed to come!

It might be hard to tell by his composed exterior, but in the inside Leo was alight with excitement, his heart beating at double speed as he followed behind the group of hunters. Coming upon the herd, he felt a rush of awe, stretching his neck to gaze out over the meadow and the many animals grazing, until Flair have him a pointed look and he dutifully ducked his head.

His pulse kept beating in his ears though, breathing elevated as he waited impatiently. Dual-colored eyes briefly flicked to Chan as he talked, however, as the others answered, Flair addressed the pups, and Leo dutifully looked at his chaperone, swallowing hard and nodding eagerly at her words. Truth be told, though he was thrilled to finally see what real hunting was like, he was perfectly happy not to have to tangle with their sharp-hooved prey up close, just yet.

RE: chain keep us together - Aleister - Dec 20, 2021

Keeping his feet moving and mind focused, Aleister heeded Chan's call for a hunting party. It would continue to keep his mind off of things while helping to restore the caches they needed to replenish after the cougar. Gathering his children who were willing to join them, Al followed after Flair as they were led to the herd. He was nervous to have the pups among them, but he was happy to have Flair volunteer to help guide them and keep them away from trouble. The more eyes to watch them the better, but they were of age that they needed to start experiencing these things.

A smirk lifted one side of his ebony lips at Flair's speech to his children, but when his mismatched gaze looked to them, his gaze hardened seriously to make sure they understood her words and that he expected them to follow her instructions. "Listen to Flair." Flickering his gaze to the rest of the group that had assembled, he gave a respectful nod to each of them while giving Oksana a soft smile. Aleister was happy to see her within the hunting party. Glancing to Chan last, he waited for his signal.

Lynx was surprised to realize they were being allowed to participate within this hunting party and if he was being honest, he couldn't be more excited. Finally, he was allowed to go do something other than stay close to the den or wander with a partner. It was all getting exhausting, and he was growing more frustrated by the second. But now, he was able to stretch away from his parental control settlings and have something exciting to do.

With a pep in his step, the middle child loped alongside his father as they followed Flair and his brother, Leo. As they arrived to meeting spot, he couldn't help but strain his seafoam eyes to get the best looks at the herd in front of them. Of course, he didn't really know what he was looking for, but it was something other than trees and snow that he was used to looking at. His pale ears flicked back at Flair's words, his gaze looking to his father as he stared down upon them seriously. Nodding, he turned his gaze back to the herd trying to understand what he was supposed to look for.

RE: chain keep us together - Chan - Dec 20, 2021

thanks for joining guys!! i will post again after the 26th, and others are still welcome to join at any point!

Their gathered hunting party was sizable, all but guaranteeing success. Things were looking up, and Chan would've been wagging his tail were it not injured. He looked to each of them, verifying the assurances that they were prepared. At this point, he couldn't count the number of hunts he'd been on, but each one was still exhilarating, and still presented the opportunity for something to go wrong. As second-nature as it might feel, it still required absolute focus.

Chan nodded, and turned. He lead them forward, twisting along through the gaps in the trees. Cover swiftly fell away, and the wolf shifted gears, strides lengthening until he was running. His fangs bared and his eyes locked upon a target; twin fawns that had wandered too far from their mother's side.

RE: chain keep us together - Siyet - Dec 24, 2021

Chan gave the signal and Siyet let out.a burst of speed. She knew she wouldn't have the strength to take one down but could help steer the heard. She got along the left side, running and yipping alongside the massive animals. She occasionally snipped at their feet to keep them going.

She looked and saw the others in the rush too, she felt her adrenaline running. This was going to be a good chase, that was for sure.

With her huffing breath she did her best to keep the animals together, hoping someone to take one down.
