Her time to focus on her worry was limited as contractions began to force out another small body. Inger grit her fangs and closed her beryl eyes, at first unaware to another wolf's joining them. All she could think about was the process her body was going through, on seeing each little life into the world and out of their messy little sacs. It took four births total for her to be done, each meeting their mother for the first time in what appeared to be good health.
Only two would survive into the next morning, however.
Exhausted and thankful to have just gotten this far, she curled up with her newborn litter and could not help but doze off. She would flicker into consciousness in fits and spurts, but her body demanded rest and would not allow her to stay aware for long. Whatever happened next would be hard for her to recall in future months. Thankfully, Inger truly was safe.
