bar top dancing - Adora - Dec 12, 2022

backdated during their visit <3

Day in and day out she declared how much she loved the mountain. Every night she blabbered on and on to @Woya about how gorgeous it was. Even with the cold and the snow. How they could see everything from here it felt!

So it would come as no surprise today that late in the afternoon she bounced up to her mother, bright-eyed and bushy tailed. "Mama!" A sing-song voice as she wove near the legs of her mother. Forgetting how much she had grown! "Mama, I wanna see the whooooole mountain. Can I? Can we?" Hardly a soon to be teenager, Adora retained plenty of childish ways about her.

Woya was glad that at least her children had yet taken to depression in response to the move, but she wasn't so certain she was happy with just how fond Adora seemed to be of the mountains. They still weren't a first choice, still not safe especially after three Cove members now being mutilated in one form or another by rival predators. She hoped that when Spring came to thaw out the lands, they would all want to travel outside of the Lore with their parents.

That didn't seem likely for her secret favorite, but each time she saw that glowing face Woya could only smile fondly back.

She tried to keep walking even as Adora filled the space between her legs and made strides all but impossible to take, chuckling at the girl's antics.

"I guess we can take some walks," she mused, giving the girl a playful nudge to get her out of the way.

"A lot of the mountain is inaccessible, though, hun."

Adora pounced a few happy steps away out of her mother's personal space at the nudge. Tail waved behind her. Right up until her mother informed her that most of the mountain was inaccessible. There was a contemplative drop in her facial features. Not mad or upset, but perplexed by this new information!

"How come? What if we ask real nice?" Maybe it was like the borders! They couldn't just walk right into the mountains. Adora had decided she could ask very nicely all of the inaccessible places.

Already she had retreated into her mind to think about all the things they might see and the stories she could collect. Inaccessible or not!

Adora's response was yet more proof that she'd been named appropriately. Woya wished selfishly that her daughter could stay like this forever, blissfully ignorant to the dangers and heartbreak that were waiting for her in life, happy and easily entertained with with what was in front of her. That certainly wasn't the way of things, though. All she could do was cherish moments like these and try not to think too far ahead, while still providing guidance.

"Because it's very dangerous. The mountains aren't kind. The snow hides what the land really looks like, even the most experienced of hikers can walk themselves into a hole or right off a cliff. And, there's what happened to your cousin Aleister... other predators, that want to hurt you."

Hopefully her daughter would understand these threats well enough that a verbal warning was all that was needed. Maybe she would need to make sure to keep an extra eye on Adora...

Oh.

She could think of a million protests to have. That she could just make friends with them! That surely if she learned the land that it then could never hide from her!

Yet she knew her mother was right. Experienced and her mother for a reason. To love her, to protect her. Okay, mama. Her voice softened some. A sheepish look had her ears briefly flick before they smoothed back some. But we can still do safe walks, right? If somebody knows somewhere, can I go with? Like patrols! An attempt to hold onto the bright light within her.

Woya was thankful for Adora's compliance, trusted her to listen well. Hopefully it would be enough to keep her safe, but they couldn't fend off heartbreak forever. Her tail wagged at her daughter's next small volley of queries.

"Absolutely," she said with a toothy smile, happy to be asked something that she could say yes to. She hated seeing her children disappointed, wanted this to be a fun adventure for them.

"There are plenty of places for us to go and see, and I'm sure your cousins will have lots to show you and your sister. Just remember to never leave the valley without an adult, alright?"

That was where things really got dangerous.

The rules her mother laid down had never been terrible to follow, or perhaps only Adora thought this! For she adored her mother in all ways.

"Right!"

This she chirped back with a wide grin. Tail whipped behind her pale form as she moved to quickly press a kiss to her mother.

The Cove would be so fun!
