I’m Back Between Villages
Marrah had managed to stretch what should have been a days travel into almost a week, which was exactly her intention. She had finally arrived at the last point of shelter before she would have to start actually going up to cross the mountain. What was even worse was she recognized the pathway she could have taken if she were going to visit the Cove.
Maybe she should? That could possibly delay her return back to the Chasm and it might be nice to be amongst family while she got her courage up. But…what if they knew that she had run away? Would they be upset with her? What if she got all the way up there just for her to be turned away, a preview for what she was sure was going to greet her at her homeland. The yearling’s heart raced at the thoughts that circled around her skull like a sick carousel, round and round until she felt lightheaded.
So she decided to put off the ascension for another couple of days and that she would settle here in the grove. It was good here, the air seeming both static and calm. Maybe if everything went horrible she could come back and live here, that wouldn’t be so bad right? Marrah had found a patch of trees that were close enough together to protect her from the drip of the melting snow above and turned her attention to the sunset. Pink and orange, with clouds filtering through shimmering gold. Tonight would be good.
