Bang the doldrums - Galen - Mar 30, 2023

Things had seem to be rather weird around the Cove as of late in parallel with the weather beginning to take a gentle climb toward warmer temperatures, a mixture of different vibes and smells that came with the impending change of the seasons the Vuesain child was still too young to comprehend. As far as the smells were concerned he had decided to give the adult women in the pack a wide berth, finding the weird scents that they exuded headache inducing. Luckily for him his friends Magg and Adora didn't wear the same scent. What a shame it would have been if he had to avoid them too. The thought marred his young face with a frown as he patrolled the borders in an attempt to keep himself busy.

Nowadays, though, the strong scent had began to dissipate and a new peculiar scent was beginning to rise amongst some of the women. Aunty Aquene and Miss Woya notably, but for some reason his mother didn't which perplexed the growing boy even more. Why didn't she smell like the others now? Dark clad brows knitted together in response to such perplexity his young mind couldn't quite wrap around yet. And why didn't the boys act or smell so funny lately? Not that he was complaining in all honesty.

With a billion and one thoughts swarming his mind and Galen's eyes drawn to the ground without paying much attention to where his paws were going they had started to veer off course until suddenly..

Smack.

Golden eyes squeezed themselves shut tightly as pain rushed across his head, tiny stars dancing behind closed lids while a paw lifted to instantly try and soothe the afflicted area to no avail. His rump unceremoniously thumping onto the ground. "Oww..." He huffed through gritted teeth, opening a single lid to peer at the solid trunk of a tree that had been his downfall. At least nobody had witnessed his mishap.

Hope you dont mind me tossing him in here! <3

The weird scents and behaviors of the adults were perplexing to the young ebony child. Mama smelt funny then smelt like something different but equally as weird. While she wasnt the only one who had seemed to be affected, his sisters, agemates and grandmother seemed to be just fine. Matos had asked his grandmother what was going on and she explained vaguely what was going on but he was still just as confused. Not wanting to dwell on it any longer the Eastfall-Slayer boy decided to walk along the borders. It was something he felt he could do to help out, and to be just like his dad. The boy huffed out his chest while he walked, full on feeling himself when he heard a loud phwap! followed by a quieter "Ow". Concern filled the boy for whoever had gotten hurt. Trotting around the large trunk just ahead Matos laid dual-colored eyes upon his fellow inky agemate. "Are ya okay?" he asked giving the other boy a sniff to make sure he was alright.

Not at all <3
Swarthy cheeks puffed themselves up before exhaling the contained air swiftly in the form of a huff, his attention soon caught by the sound of approaching footsteps. Great, so much for being under the impression nobody had seen the boy's unfortunate and rather embarrassing mishap. Dark tinged ears swept themselves back before pinning themselves forward again once his audience made their appearance. Much to Galen's relief, it was only Matos that emerged from the brush and not Magg or one of his siblings that would have given him quite the hazing.

A lopsided grin out of pure embarrassment tugged at Galen's lips as he allowed his age-mate to give his form a sniff, ensuring the other inky child that he was in fact okay. "Yeah, just wasn't watching where I was going is all." Tail thumping, the swarthy Vuesain made a flustered chuckle before giving the area of impact another gentle rub with the back of his paw, wincing slightly at the tenderness still present. Yeah, that was definitely gonna leave a lump.

A quick once over told the ebony Eastfall-Slayer that his lookalike would be okay, even if there was a lump. Mirroring the Vuesain boy, Matos' own maw pulled up in a toothy grin as he chuckled at the statement. "Those trees just like ta jump outta nowhere huh?" He teased with a light laugh as he gave his agemate a friendly bump on the shoulder. His charcoal banner waved easily behind him as he took a few step back to allow Galen the space to stand. "We could go check to see if my mama has anything to help with the pain in the infirmary if ya'd like." He had a very rudimentary understanding of plants and the different ways they could help wolves. But surely he'd remember which ones helped with minor bumps and bruises. Though if the other dark child opted out of a visit to the infirmary, Matos would be alright with that too. Maybe they could go on an adventure!

Eventually after a small amount of delicate rubbing over the affected area the pain began to subside to a dull ache Galen was capable of powering through, lifted paw lowering back onto the ground before a light laugh of his own followed suit behind Matos' teasing statement. "Yeah, gotta stay more alert around these parts." Galen added on, toothy grin spreading a little wider while the boy's golden gaze watched his age mate take a couple steps back to give him some room. The fellow swarthy boy was quick to his feet and gave his pelt a good shake, hoping the action would rid the last remnants of embarrassment that lingered beneath the surface.

At the mention of taking a trip to the infirmary the young Vuesain's eyes immediately grew wide and his head shook quickly to disregard needing such attention. He was fine, completely and utterly fine enough to avoid that place. It was nothing against the skills his mother had honed and Galen hoped his abrupt refusal to go didn't dampened the boy's spirits, but there was a seed planted back when his father passed that birthed an underline fear of the infirmary. Fed by the lack of knowledge his childish mind was too young to wrap around back then. It was the place his father had been holed up and ultimately where his last breath had been drawn. A fear not even @Magg knew about and he told her almost everything.

"N-no. I'm fine, really." If it wasn't for the slight stuttering Galen would have sounded more confident in his answer.

I am so sorry about the late reply :'(

The light heartedness floated easily in the air causing the Eastfall darkling to smile wide and wave his banner happily at his hocks. Dark fluffy audits flicked back though when his suggestion to go to the infirmary was strongly opposed. Matos hadnt thought of how the last place uncle Al had been could have caused an avoidance of the place. When Galen's shaky assurance was uttered, a pang of guilt surged through his lookalike. A breathy okay left Matos' inky maw. A beat of silence passed between the boys before Mat perked up.

"Lets go on an adventure then!" He beamed his fluffy onyx banner swaying once more. He didnt want his agemate to be sad, especially if he had been the one to supply the reminder.
