Running in circles - Kaeruka - Jun 13, 2023

"Where are you?" The question flitted softly on the air with worry laced undertow, a sliver of hope glistening behind the tawny woman's verdant gaze that by some sheer miracle a response from the one she sought would shatter the silence surrounding her now. In the meantime charcoal tinged ears pricked forward before swiveling like satellites in an attempt to catch even the slightest noise that wanted to disturb the otherwise peaceful veil that hung over the meadow, eyes ever surveying the landscape for the familiar chocolate coat of Iseldir.

Nothing.

Weeks had passed since the Archer child had gone astray right from beneath their own noses with little to no luck in picking up any sense of a trail as to where the growing boy had gone. Of course the boy wasn't a defenseless pup anymore, having reached his yearling stage and capable of fending for himself should he be put to the test, yet the entire situation didn't settle well with Ruka. Perhaps she needed to expand her search radius, but the fear of what happened last time she ventured too far kept her tethered to the territories that hugged the Willows. Alas, she searched. Alas, she continued to return empty pawed.

Heavy sigh exhaled past inky lips, slender limbs would trudge onward further into the confines of the meadow in hopes of signs, of anything that could shed some light on where the lost Archer was.

Rye had been having a pleasant day amongst the meadow, savouring in the silence with half closed eyes. Her solitude was disturbed by a voice calling out in the far distance, and her eyes opened, one brow raising in curiosity.

Her head lifted up into the air as she rolled onto her stomach, ears pricked forward. Had someone she pissed off come looking for her, or was this wolf searching for another?

Her lips turned up in a grin. "Over here darl." She'd soon find out, though Rye made no effort to get up and move towards the other wolf. Her curiosity wasn't piqued quite that much to actually investigate herself.

An incoherent voice caught on the air had slender limbs freezing in their tracks mid stride while dark tinged ears immediately pinned themselves forward, straining against the silence to catch just a small sample of the voice again. Perhaps a single note would be enough to decipher whether or not it belonged to the missing child or not. Was..was it him? The hope that filled her chest caused the muscle to beat rapidly, swearing it beat loud enough to be heard by those close enough by with each thud in her chest. "Iseldir?" His name was let loose over the quietness of the meadow, chartreuse gaze surveying her surroundings in hopes of catchings a glimmer of chocolate against the otherwise verdant background.

Oh how she hoped he was here.

"Iseldir." Ruka called out his moniker once more, voice more determined to prove he had come home from wherever he had wandered off to. The tawny woman could only imagine the relief to be had once his parents were reunited with him. A tilt of her head brought her nose up into the air, inhaling a deep breath to pick up on the various scents wafting in the lush grass. Alas, his cologne was not among them although a peculiar scent did catch her interest. It was still canine in nature, soft and feminine but was strange and unknown to the Ridge woman. Immediately her gaze surveyed her surroundings once more, lids narrowed in an attempt to spot its maker. She remained still, contemplating her next course of action. Seek and chase away, or seek and acquire whatever level of knowledge they may or may not have about the boy?

It was a tough one.

The name called out was unfamiliar to her, but the voice did appear to be coming closer. Rye thought for a moment, staying silent as she decided between a game of cat and mouse, or an open conversation. She was feeling lazy in that moment, the joy from causing strife not enough of a motivator to put in the effort required to play said children's game, as fun as it would be.

Her head lifted further, rising above the tall grasses which swayed gently in the breeze. She spotted a fellow wolf, much redder in appearance, though feminine just like her. Whoever this woman was was standing still, surveying the meadow around them, and Rye offered up a short bark to help the stranger pinpoint her location.

"Who's Iseldir?" Maybe she knew them but just not by name.
