inspirit - Jadon - Dec 21, 2023

Back into the mountains. More exploring, for his quest had not yet ended. A lesser man, more likely or a smarter man would have probably given up long ago. But Jadon was certain he would find what he needed here, he just.. must not have been looking in the right places.

So he kept going, north, through the mountains. Thus far though, his search had been for naught. Fruitless.

Figuratively, at least. Interestingly enough, though, tucked away in a den of sorts was a cluster of apples, stored away in a space just large enough for him to poke his head into. The sweet, distinct scent of the fruits had led him to them. And though they smelled a tad off, they didn’t seem to be bad.

Confused, he glanced about, half expecting this to be someone’s cache that they were guarding. Other than the Cove, though.. there weren’t many others wandering the mountains. And none here recently.

Weird.

The place was beauty.

Siv wondered if this was the closest to home she might ever feel again. The fold inspired feelings of comfort. Perhaps for its tucked nature against the footfalls of the mountain. She yearned to climb higher but...perhaps she would spend the day here before she went any direction further.

Yet the smell of something familiar cropped up. A cache of fermented treasures laced with a scent of a stranger. These feasts seemed to be a way to bring wolves together. She hoped that this one might be as friendly as she had felt with her own bounty...

Hello...? She called out, warm but tentative still too.

Weird.. but it was still a form of food, and an opportunity that a loner would be unwise to pass up. Jay stuck his nose back into the small cavity, preparing to snag one of the apples when a voice called out from the ether. One with a different kind of accentuation to it. He promptly withdrew his nose and sauntered back a few paces to look about for the source of the call.

The owner of the apples, maybe? What were the odds that someone would show up at the same moment, though?

He let out a soft chuff to indicate his location amidst the rock and a light snowfall that obscured his vision somewhat. A greeting of sorts in return, the only sort permitted for now.

A chuff was a sound more welcomed than many others. It could have been a growl or a snarl. She supposed it was safe to take it as a welcome.

I come closer? She asked, even as she already lifted her large paws to pad a bit closer. Her nose wiggled softly as she tested the air further, wondering if she would discover anything before she laid eyes on them.

So far it only seemed to be clues that it was indeed just them. Well, them, and the fermented fruits. Which she started to wonder if someone local seemed keen to...spread the practice around. Her second batch in less than a moon? Siv would not dare to look the gift horse in the mouth but she imagined such a lucky streak would not last long.

come closer? The strange voice posed an inquiry once more. After a few more moments, Jay was fairly sure he could pick out a figure amidst the gently falling snow. A dark silhouette, tall and imposing. Larger than any female he had ever seen.. and, younger, by a year or two, maybe? He couldn’t be too sure of that.

Was she the owner of these apples? The one who had stored them here? Probably not, if she had requested permission to approach.

”If.. you desire,” Jay would murmur, lowly, leaving the decision to the stranger. He did not have any qualms with sharing the apples when they were not even his to start. As few others as he had met in these mountains, he was also admittedly curious.

Maybe there was something to be learned, here.
