i'm just a full tank away from freedom - Kiona - Jan 11, 2025 For @Magg

RE: i'm just a full tank away from freedom - Magg - Jan 11, 2025 Magg had a lot to think about, those times she found herself alone. With Aven on the mend, she needed to ensure she and her girls weren't viewed as deadweight. Yet the twins still weren't talking, even to her... like a constant reminder of all that was still wrong. That might always be wrong. She had scented the herd too, and was likewise attempting to track it. Her body was kept busy with the task even as her mind constantly wandered. Inevitably, the scent of a fellow wolf jarred her fully into the present, momentarily pushing away those worries to focus on whatever threats might now be immediate. What if they smelled of her family, of that future-oxbow? Magg was cautious as she investigated, but even when she was close enough that her narrowed eyes spotted the young stranger betwixt tree trunks, every inhale failed to catch even the faintest whiff of the wolves that once called themselves Sanguine Cove. Something deep inside relaxed, and she breathed out a sigh. Good. Far more at ease, and confident, she made the decision to approach. Despite finding herself only a few rungs below Second, recruiting wasn't really her business. Yearlings shouldn't have to find themselves alone, though. The least Magg could do was reach out and make sure the loner was alright. "Hello. Looking for anything in particular?" It didn't occur to her that she too was seeking the herd. The girl scented of no one, who would she hunt with? RE: i'm just a full tank away from freedom - Kiona - Jan 14, 2025 [dohtml]
RE: i'm just a full tank away from freedom - Magg - Jan 27, 2025 While not robustly welcoming, the younger wolf regarded her amicably. Magg's tail mirrored hers, moving in a relatively happy manner. Yes, hunger was certainly expected - maybe there was something she could do to help with that? "Magg." She couldn't help but turn a few select words over in her head; 'my friends.' Kiona didn't smell of any others, so where were these friends now? There were rain clouds beneath Magg's tall ears, hidden behind a sunny smile as outwardly, she kindly ignored the stickier parts of this stranger being alone before her now. "I was hoping the herd would settle nearby, so my pack could take a swipe at them. It's not pressing though, I've actually got some leftovers not too far from here..." RE: i'm just a full tank away from freedom - Magg - Jan 27, 2025 Kiona's response was completely unassuming, causing an impression to be made upon Magg. Her smile deepened subtly, and a small spark passed through her earthen eyes. Was independence the simple answer to the hows and whys of the yearling being here? Mention of the mountain distracted her train of thought briefly, gaze flicking toward the peaks instinctively. At all times, she knew where the ridge loomed, even if it could not be seen. It meant so many things to her, that all she could recognize was the way it felt as though her heart were swelling in her chest. Magg smothered it down, maintaining her cool and friendly exterior. "Not here at the heart of it, no. They find passage to the north or south, the forests on the other side are desolate of wolves." No, Paradise Falls did not exist, thank you very much. "Either way, I wasn't trying to brag," her smile widened toothily as her tone became increasingly light-hearted, "I was trying to make an offer. I understand if you'd rather not, but I'm perfectly happy to share a meal with you, no webs attached." RE: i'm just a full tank away from freedom - Kiona - Jan 28, 2025 [dohtml]
RE: i'm just a full tank away from freedom - Magg - Jan 28, 2025 So it hadn't just been pride. Magg could not fault her disbelief. She knew herself by experience just how rare genuine help could be. Yet she and her children truly were not hurting for sustenance and security, and so the young mother was perfectly willing to give a little. At least, to a teenage girl who reminded her of a darker period in her life. "Nah. It needs to be eaten, right?" Magg thought of leaving it at that, but decided to give a little more in case it was needed. "I was on my own around this time last year. I would have liked to share with someone." RE: i'm just a full tank away from freedom - Magg - Jan 28, 2025 Magg was glad that Kiona accepted the proposition. Genial smile still in place, she happily began to lead. There was meat she had stored for her own use while scouting, another product of that desire not to rely too heavily on the others in the Backwater. They would be able to retrieve it and tuck in without approaching the pack's territory, a boon if the traveler wanted to avoid being crowded. The questions that came weren't unusual, but Magg's answer was not immediate. There was a beat, small but present. "They are... dedicated." It was hard for her to settle on any one word. What she felt and thought about the Backwater was not easily surmised. "I have daughters. One was very sick. We needed stability." Her brown eyes sought Kiona's face. "What about you? What's brought you here?" |
