scars remind us who we are

She could feel it, the swelling of her belly, and the growing cubs inside of her. She could feel it all and it felt…odd. Pregnancy was extremely new to her. She was experienced in the mothering aspect after birth because of Belladonna and Datura. However, carrying her own children was new. But, Athena welcomed it. Indeed, soon she would be confided to her lake and soon after the den. So, today she took what freedom she had left to go to one of her favorite places in the Lore. Fireweed Rise.

The swelling leader made her way out of her domain and continued on her way towards the meadow where she had first arrived in the Lore. There were still patches of snow everywhere, but red patches were starting to come through with the arrival of spring. A happy smile formed on her face as she trotted through the meadow. Nothing could soil her happy and vibrant mood, except for maybe the Nomad dogs, but she kept those mutts off her mind for the moment. Sprawling out across the grassy knoll, she lied on her fattening belly overlooking the meadow below her. The warming weather was a nice change compared to the cold winter they experienced. Her thick winter coat was shedding nicely with the change in seasons and soon her flowing ivory fur would be back. Once her children were born and old enough to travel, this would be the first place she’d take them. She could see her cubs playing together among the red flowers as she sat upon this grassy knoll with Eden at her side. Her cheerful smile grew larger as her fiery eyes envisioned this.

Eehh I'm just going to maintain that Ava left 'bane of the mountain' when she did just to less complicate things yadda yadda~

Fresh spring air had drawn her away from the Cedarwood. The longer she inhaled it the more she wanted to run free - just for a moment, at least - but she had given due notice to her love that she might be away for a few days at most. After all, Ava did enjoy two things: a good run, and a good indulgence. This would satisfy both.

She did her best to be aware at all times, but wandering did have a way of removing Ava from reality. It was dangerous now that she carried life within her that was not her own, but the cheeky she-wolf still reckoned she could handle whatever or whoever on her own without taking personal damages. Her trail was long, weaving among territories and taking frequent breaks to lap at puddles and streams or simply rest her dark legs. In truth, Ava was not used to being so fat, but she was not discouraged by the extra weight or weariness. The strain was refreshing, even, so long as she kept certain it was not going to effect her health in the coming weeks.

When the grasses gave way to red wildflowers the jet-black lady knew she was far from home - and yet it only enticed her to go further. The odd patch of melting snow covered several of the budding flowers but its beauty was fast uncovering. How she had missed seeing flowers and she hadn't even known it until now. She couldn't just leave. A lucid smile floated on her face as she waltzed through the fields, her steps airy and without care - until something joined the smell of flowers: Athena.

There was pause in her movement, but only for a moment. Though she considered ignoring the scent, she found her body moving against the idea - the scent getting stronger, closer. Suddenly she could see the pale fur and the roundness that composed her smell, and she made no hesitation in getting close. The woman would smell and hear her approach, she was sure. Ever so quietly Ava rounded off to the side, placing herself a respectful distance from the female - something she hadn't done in an encounter with Athena in ages - and joined her in laying among the flowers.

scars remind us who we are

The new scar that slashed across her muzzle had gradually stopped throbbing with pain about two weeks after her encounter with Rhysis and Ava on the mountain. It had been pure luck that both of them came out alive. Another avalanche ended up splitting them up, but if that avalanche hadn’t occurred perhaps one or neither of them would be alive. Anger and hatred now ran deep between them now where there was once love and respect. Athena looked like quite the badass with the multiple scars upon her face, but to her they were only reminders of the internal scars that lacerated her heart. However, she wasn’t about to let an old memory foul her good mood now.

The gentle wind ruffled through her thinning coat, but also brought the scent of another to her. It didn’t take long at all to realize who was in her presence, she knew that scent anywhere. However, it had changed. No longer did the black cloaked woman smell like a rogue or Poison Path, no she smelt like the cedars and many others, especially a male. Ava also smelled of breeding, like Athena. So the two ex-lady gang members meet again knocked up this time. Ava didn’t stick around on the mountain when she had fought with Rhysis, but she couldn’t blame her. If Athena was in her shoes, she would have done the same thing.

It didn’t take her long to settle herself among the grasses close by, yet far enough for her comfort. Athena still didn’t know what to think of her. She had left her when she needed her the most and here she was now with another pack’s scent on her, almost mocking her. It would seem that Ava moved on, quickly and possibly without care while Athena was still hurt. She didn’t even get a goodbye or reason for her disappearance. So Athena deemed that must not have been worth it in Ava's eyes. However, she still wanted to share stories with the black raven at her side. She still wanted that friendship. But, would Ava deem her not worth it again?

Shoving the thoughts back, she glanced over slightly to look over the woman besides her. She definitely looked pregnant, and so did she. They were both fat which brought a smirk to her face. The lean fighting machine bodies that they used to have were being replaced by fat, pregnant bodies. Oh, how things have changed. Athena honestly had no idea what to say. Should she not say anything at all and let the silence overtake them? Or should she grow some balls and say something? Clearing her throat, she turned to Ava set on asking how everything was, but when nothing came out, she stumbled and threw out a childish and simple greeting. ”Hi.” Flicking her ears back in embarrassment, she tried looking forward like nothing happened.

As she lay there Ava sought, ever so discretely, a way into the warrior wolf's mind, though she knew how difficult that would be. Athena had turned out exactly what Rhysis had wanted of them - a calculated and capable lady, powerful indeed, though somewhere along the way the heirarchy had gotten messed up - and she knew firsthand that whatever internal conflict plagued the white she-wolf would never even flicker in her orange eyes on the outside. Still, the black-furred female had to wonder what it was brewing beneath the surface. So much had happened to them, both seperately and together, that it was true they did not even know each other at all anymore... but it didn't feel like strangers meeting in a field.

She expected the silence that sat between them to prick against her skin like needles on every nerve, to jam the delicate space between her vertebrae with the very essence of awkward remorse, and yet it settled upon them comfortably, of all things. So when Athena's stare passed every so briefly on to her Ava did not look away, meeting her gaze for the first time in so long. The amber and orange clash had been expected to hurt her in some poignant and horribly dramatic way, but instead it made Ava feel particularly heavy. So different and yet exactly the same. The guard that shielded Athena's true emotions remained, fitting over those irises with an invisible prowess, that Ava had to wonder what, if anything, her own face betrayed in their quiet stupor.

Athena's delicate greeting broke the tension in the air with one barely-there syllable. Her fiery stare saw the hint of a smirk hanging on the white lady's lips and it caught in her own expression, a sly smile widening into a grin and breaking into a jovial laughter, genuine as it could be."I never thought we'd be here," she explained, a giggle still ringing through her tone. It was all so different, and yet they were a pair in enough ways - monochromatic matriarchs, again, under different houses but both steadfast, stubborn, and brilliant warriors... and pregnant? Whaaaat.
