What Part of Forever - Kade - May 03, 2013 @Ava first, please :) @Sibyl @Destin @Maksim [dohtml]Territory description: "Within the depths of the forest snakes a tortuous, winding river that carves through a deep, hidden ravine before eventually descending to fuse with the stream that feeds the mysterious Secret Falls. Shrouded in shadow and guarded by a thick, mossy woodland, this tributary is so deep and fast in places that it is nearly impossible to cross. White rapids punctuate the dark, clear appearance of the water for which the territory is named, and the area is teeming with life despite the danger the river exudes. The rumble of the river and the distant hum of the falls is like a lullaby from the site of the secluded main den, which is situated on an earthen rise overlooking the rapids." [/dohtml] RE: What Part of Forever - Ava - May 05, 2013 [dohtml]
Deep breaths kept the nervous beating of her heart to a minimum. It was a long journey they had ahead of them, and she would not lie to say the thought of the unknown did not frighten her at least a little. Her beloved was keen with her feelings, as always, and she readily received his comforting touch. Empowered by his gaze she smiled easily, returning his assurance that this journey across the Serpent's Pass would be as rewarding as it was a challenge. When he began away, taking one paw over the threshold that separated Grizzly Hollow and the rest of the world, she followed suit immediately and looked back with a small smile upon the three that had agreed to remain along. At least there was no uncertainty that they were not alone in this. Together they could draw the strength to make it there, wherever it was.
The odd waves of nostalgia that lapped at her mind's shore whenever her paws touched the stone of the mountain were not as strong as they began across. Her nose was always straining itself to catch wind of Poison Path, or Naira and Rhysis' new pack, or whatever was the deal on the mountain around now, though she knew their path lay far from the neighbors. Some parts of the mountain looked familiar, and she would pass a gaze among Kade and the others before shifting course where she knew it was safest to travel, but that did not last long. The grip of her paws had grown tender from disuse and the added fragility of her pregnancy made her less unbreakable than she'd ever thought herself to be. Frustration found its way into her chest when a rock turned out to be more slippery than it appeared, or when she lost familiarity with their surroundings. Her mate made certain that she and all were safe in their travel, though she hoped to remain stoic as she fought the difficulties of her heavy weight on travel. Ava took each rest they required whole-heartedly, and made sure to watch for the weariness of Sibyl, Destin or Maksim before she would relieve herself of worry.
Somewhere between night and morning she awoke, only by the motion of her mate stirring. Her golden eyes narrowed against the darkness, catching sight of Kade's starlit form. In the stillness of the night she could hear something deep nearby, like the rolling thunder of a storm descended from the sky. Turning her dark ears toward the source, she took a frowning moment to realize it was the drumming of water. Rising to her weary four she helped him rouse the troops before they took off with a new direction. Their travel took a turn for the damp, wading their way through a layer of silver mist while the ground beneath them varied between dew-tipped grasses and muddy banks. The vegetation grew thick and green, vibrant wherever the shadows could not hide it, and all the way the rushing of water grew louder. It was hidden from view up until a quiet break in their path that lead them from the rocky crevasse into storybook scene that took what little breath remained in them away.
The fearsome river that they had heard threatened outsiders, but she could see the way the boulders calmed its stride and provided a safe pool of ever-fresh water. The decorated stone wall protected its secret well, a way that their new pack would need protection, starting a small smile on the edge of her jaw that would only increase as her wide eyes followed the perimeter of the foliage-shrouded cove. Shadows danced along the water's surface from the overhang of branches and gave the sore-foot travelers the promise of secrecy, shelter and safety. Finally her panoramic assessment landed on Kade, the resolution in his eyes reflecting in the wave of her tail. That combination of silver and gold would relieve all the journey's pain, her head lifting high in agreement and pride. This beautiful unknown no longer belonged to the wilderness, but to five brave wolves, and several on the way.
[/dohtml] RE: What Part of Forever - Sibyl - May 08, 2013 [dohtml] As they traveled eastward, Sibyl realized she'd gone farther from the Hollow than she'd ever had in a year. Each step felt as if an invisible cord were tethering her to the place, and each step she managed to pull through the tempting draw of familiarity. As the small band of wolves made it up into the mountains, she realized the finality of her decision, there was no turning back now, not that she would have even considered the option. If she were less wary of her surroundings, she might have taken the opportunity to enjoy the sights of the lands she'd never been through during her time here.
It was quite obvious the flat-footed plains wolf had never faced anything quite like the steep, sharp rocks of the mountain, and she was thankful for the watchful eye of her leaders to not leave her too far behind. As it was, most of her awareness was afforded to not falling down the mountain side. After a night of well earned rest, they descended into the lowlands along the other side of the mountains. It was a place Sibyl hadn't even considered existing before, the small snow-globe that had defined her world now thoroughly shattered.
Sibyl found the place a bit spooky, the way the moss clung to both stone and tree and the pale mist that engulfed it all. She picked up her step to walk beside her trusted friend Destin, wondering if anyone else found the place a little creepy. But just like she had gotten used to the cedars, she would learn to love this new home just as well. The roaring of water had grown louder as they moved on, Sibyl finding a pleasant surprise when the tight path opened up to an amazing sight. Crystal clear water had cleaved the forest in two, rushing in white foam over the rocks to calm into a pool just at their feet before flowing into the forest beyond. RE: What Part of Forever - Maksim - May 08, 2013 [dohtml] He couldn’t be sad about leaving the cedar trees behind. He hadn’t been there long enough to form an emotional attachment. Whilst he would miss the scent of the tall trees and the calls of song birds in the morning, he would be able to march on without a heavy heart. Still, he dug his paws deep into the soil, felt it push up between his toes as a last reminder of the place that took him in first. Whatever ghosts of the family that once lingered here would find peace and tranquillity. The Grizzly Hollow was, once again, theirs.
RE: What Part of Forever - Destin - May 17, 2013 This journey was bittersweet in some ways. When Destin had first come to Grizzly Hollow, he vowed never to leave Jaysyek's side and to stay amongst the cedar trees for eternity. Time would soon break this promise, in a way the McBain would never have expected. Through wars and journeys and disappearances, soon Jaysyek, Borden, and the children vanished from his life, presumably for a long time if not forever. The male felt slightly guilty about leaving it all behind to follow these new dominants. He trusted Kade ever since the battle and their journey there, where the subordinate realized that the male felt as much loyalty to Grizzly Hollow as he had. That fateful discussion sealed the deal- they would be leaving the forest to pave a way for the new young that would soon be arriving. Sunlight filtered through the trees the morning they left. It was a calm day, and the trees seemed to wish them one last good-bye. As their forms left the safe canopy, Destin could have sworn he heard the wind whisper their names amongst the boughs, a "good-luck" or perhaps even a "thank you." Heavy in heart and step, the brown wolf faithfully followed his new leaders, making sure to keep his golden eyes on Ava as she kept up the pace. With one last look at the waving trees below, Destin followed the others hesitantly and bid the woods a farewell. A new chapter was beginning for Grizzly Hollow, and the male felt proud to be a part of it. Sibyl's presence made him feel more comfortable over the long walks and restful nights. The stone beneath his feet felt cold and unfamiliar to him, nothing like the soft grass near the borders or the welcoming trees at the old den. Destin had to shake himself a couple times to rid himself of these longings, and focused on the future though wished Jaysyek and the others the best every sunset. It was one particular evening when Ava suddenly awoke and roused them, leading them towards a specific direction. The mist hugged at their paws and bodies, encouraging them to come further into its depths. A loud rumble grew steadily louder as they approached, something sounding like a threatening growl. Making sure to stay close to the others, he tried to take up one of the sides as they walked. Soon, though, the rag-tag group came across a beautiful river with crashing waves and a wake that lapped up against the shore. Lush grass grew amongst the cold-hearted rocks and led to a forest beyond. A smile broke across his features as he peered about this new environment. Glancing at Sibyl, and then at Kade, he knew just then that the future of Grizzly Hollow was bright. RE: What Part of Forever - Kade - May 21, 2013 One last round and we can wrap it up. :) [dohtml]

She turned away from her love and surveyed the others carefully, hope lit in her eyes that they might feel the same way. She looked for uncertainty in Sibyl's bronze stare, filtering out her own worry before it reflected in the amber depths of her gaze. So much of the woman's stability had depended upon Grizzly Hollow, but the black-furred Leader was hopeful that in time she could find the same faith in the Attayas as she had in Jaysyek. If Destin's sentiments were hard on his heart as well she couldn't see it - nothing but a quiet optimism surrounded his presence. Then Maksim - he had only so recently joined their ranks. She'd promised him a home, safety and stability, only to ask him to take a dangerous journey across the Serpent's Pass. But the doubts she sought in the green depths of his eyes were non-existent.
Delicately she moved further into the fissure that opened up between the layers of thick forest, her paws matting the grass beneath them to form the path for years to come. Mist swirled around her ankles and wide belly like it welcomed the new life. The drumming of the water almost sounded like a warming, but as she spotted Kade's figure approaching the rocks that contained the wild rapids she knew the warning was not for them. That sound would let strangers know they were too close to a place that belonged to them now. Ava approached the pedestal as Kade faced the group, placing her paws on the smooth surface to join him.
When he sang, she sang with him, tilting her muzzle to the sky and calling out a song of Kade, of Ava, of Sibyl and Destin and Maksim, of a new destiny that joined them and their future here in Secret Falls, here in Darkwater Rapids.
[/dohtml] RE: What Part of Forever - Sibyl - May 25, 2013 Lil short but don't wanna hold this up [dohtml] Sibyl glanced around to her packmates to gauge their thoughts on the place. All seemed pleased by the rumbling rapids centered in the misty forest, and if they could be happy, she would be happy, too. She smiled back at Destin as he glanced towards her, and her tail started up a wag as her sable leaders stepped forward, Ava rising up on a stout rock. The pair of voices rose up over the crash of the water, and Sibyl felt an ancient compulsion to join in on the song. Head tipped back, her high timbre joined in with the proud notes of the others. RE: What Part of Forever - Maksim - May 30, 2013 teeny post because i've kept you guys waiting long enough! [dohtml] Had Maksim believed in fate he may have claimed destiny brought them here. It was perfect, a sanctuary for the young to grow and the pack to thrive. The territory was sheltered but bursting with life, trees quivering in the soft breeze. There was a brief moment that Ava peered at Maksim, a moment he missed, before she took her place next to Kade. Both their heads tilted back and the song called out from the alpha pair. The shy female joined in before Maksim’s own pack instincts kicked in and he too took part in the joyous song.
RE: What Part of Forever - Destin - May 31, 2013 He found himself wishing to join in with the melody now sung around him. Ava began it, with the others joining in one by one. Destin looked upon them with pride that they had all made it together, once and for all. Although thoughts of Jaysyek would still be in his mind, for he could never truly let his loyalty go, now he knew he must focus on the future with these new packmates. Kade he knew would be a strong leader, Ava a sturdy, kind mother at his side, Sibyl, the shy female with a compassionate and loyal heart, and the newcomer, Maksim, who seemed just as ready and willing to serve. The land around them all signified the new life that was bursting at the seams. It appeared that this secret haven had been waiting for them all along, just biding its time until it was found in times of need. Finally the five wolves could claim their new home and begin their new lives and pack together. The responsibility he would have began to weigh heavily on the McBain, and of course he did not know if his position as second would last. As he joined into the song he knew that this founding would be written in the history of song for all who would come after, and that he would continue his life with his new family and friends, serving loyally to those who had always stood by him. |
