We can count the stars that disappear - Tacoma - May 28, 2013

[dohtml]
By no means do you need to make your post this long xD I got carried away. Tacoma would love to meet some of the pack members, and/or first thread with his siblings maybe?

He had been awake for quite some time now, pondering. Various scents were wafting into the den, as they always did. Yips, and squawks begged for his attention as he laid safely on the dirt floor. The entrance of their little hideaway lay only a few small steps away, but still he remained stuck to his spot. Tacoma's eyesight, though not without flaws, had improved greatly. He could now see a small ways outside of the den, and it intrigued him to no end. For days he had wished to venture outside. Just to take one step onto the green plants would satisfy him, or at least that is what he thought.

Pushing his front half upwards, Tacoma took on a sitting position. Stout little legs fell awkwardly under him, as he still wasn't sure how to use his body in expert fashion. A yelp of frustration sounded from his throat, and rang throughout the den. Why was it so difficult to take a step outside? He wondered why @Ashton, and @Danica weren't just as concerned about the issue as he was, or maybe they were. Either way, he shrugged it off. Today was going to be the day he took his first steps into the light.

The need to escape their dark den had taken over. He wanted to see the creatures he could smell. Tacoma desired the feel of sun against his back. Excitement rushed through the cub's veins, as he took a step forward. Pausing for a second, his thoughts took over. Was his mother going to stop him? Were his siblings going to follow him? He was a ball of terror and excitement all in one. There was a great fear in the unknown, but he would never know if he didn't try.

Another step, and then another, until his nose was peaking out of the entrance he had watched his mother come in and out of so many times before. A brown paw touched the light, and then his head. Finally even his tail had been pulled outside of the den. This new world was an overload of sensation. Warmth raked his back, very much unlike the cool soil of the den. Noises that were once muffled now shocked his little ears. The sunlight was brilliant and blinding, making him squint through his already small eyes. Though Tacoma couldn't see very far, the things he could see were wondrous.

Green filled his vision as his paws touched the grass. His nose shakily dipped toward the Earth, and he could smell it up close and personal for the first time. Bright blue eyes moved around attempting to take everything in. Unsteady legs took another step away from the only home he had ever known. That is when he first realized the difference in texture. In an instant, one small paw lifted into the air, attempting to get away from this strange feeling. In succession, all of his paws did the same, and he found himself back at the mouth of their little den. He held in the yelp that begged for release. No one could know that he had been afraid. He had already come this far, he had to try a little harder. Taking another step into the grass, he was less fearful this time. After all, he knew what to expect.

That is when he realized that the world consisted of more than his small family. It was much larger than their cozy little home. Breathless, he whispered, more to himself than anyone else. "Woaww." His denim colored eyes were wide as they attempted to take in the world around him.

RE: We can count the stars that disappear - Danica - May 31, 2013

Subtle sounds wafted to the tiny girl's ears, causing them to twitch in her sleep. The warmth of her siblings comforted her and so she slept on peacefully, burrowing closer to her brothers. She dreamed of warm milk and the loving tongue of her mother bathing her, frowning when a frustrated yip interrupted her happy thoughts. Gradually wakefulness claimed the little princess and she slowly sat up, tottering on still-clumsy legs. She looked around the den, blinking tired eyes as she tried to figure out what had awakened her. A slight draft made her realize that Tacoma was no longer by her side and this caused her to look about a bit frantically. Her brothers were always by her side, whether in play, for meals or for sleep and his absence made her tiny heart beat faster.

As the light by the entrance caught her attention she finally made out a small dark form moving towards it. This made her pulse race even faster. She'd been more and more curious about the light and where Mama disappeared to, but she'd never been brave enough to even think about going there. Tacoma was though, apparently and she felt excitement and fear both coarse through her as she watched him get farther and farther away. Without another thought, she was on her own wobbly feet and following in her brother's wake.

Although she'd started off as fast as stubby inexperience feet would take her, she slowed and move much more cautiously as Tacoma's brown form slowly exited the den. She had just poked her own nose out of the den and was rapidly blinking her baby blue eyes, tinted with hints of the emerald green they would become in the brightness. She sucked in her breath when Tacoma suddenly tumbled silently back into the opening. He must not have seen her for almost immediately he headed back out into the unknown expanse beyond their cozy den. Trembling slightly Danica whispered, "Tacoma! Don't leave me!" Her voice sounded tiny with the background of wind rustling leaves and grass and birds singing from their lofty perches. She briefly wondered what creatures could make such lovely music as she waited for her brother to return to her.

RE: We can count the stars that disappear - Liam - May 31, 2013

Liam had been spending his time around the den just in case if Nina would need anything at all. He lazily laid in the darkness of shade, shadows dancing over his body as the wind played with the leaves of plants. His eyes were half open and glossy from his tired state. His ribs rose every so slowly then fell back down again before repeating. With a yawn the male forced himself up into a stretch, he didn't seem needed here so he was going to patrol the borders yet again today.

Wagging his tail as he walked from his napping place and glancing around, it was then he spotted a small bundle at the mouth of the den. He froze tense. Allowing his eyes to take in the form he identified that it was a pup so slowly he walked up to him. "Hi there buddy, what you doing out here?" He asked his deep voice booming out in a kind tone. He switched his glance to the den moving his broad head over, "Ah, um, Alpha ma'am, one of the pups is out here." He called out not knowing Nina'a name yet. Turning back to the pup he sat down and allowed his tail to go into a wagging frenzy.

He smiled at the little one before him, "It's beautiful huh?" He said then added, " The outside world." Liam didn't know if the small pup knew a word he was speaking but didn't care either, it would only teach Tacoma more of his language. For just a split second he turned to glance all around him eyeing for hawks or any danger to the pup, all the while taking in the nature's beauty. "Can you speak yet? I'm Liam, what does your mother call you?"

Only just a few minutes later did another pup come crawling out shouting for her brother. Liam smiled at her as his earlier questions were answered. Once again he turned back to the darkness of the den, "Um, ma'am, make that two." He could barley hold his excitement in for seeing the pups for the first time but he hid it well. He looked at them and smiled bigger.

[dohtml]
Caught in the midst of his wonder, Tacoma almost didn't hear his sister's whisper as it left her mouth. She was calling out for him, and immediately he felt regret for not getting her involved in his plan to leave the den. As he went to turn back and bring her out here himself, a movement came from the corner of his vision. Though everything was still blurred, he could clearly make out the shape of an approaching wolf. His nose told him that his eyes were not deceiving him, and so he moved back a couple of paces, nearing the den's entrance once more.

This wolf bore a scent that the little male wasn't used to. It wasn't at all like the various perfumes his mother had brought home with her, nor the aroma of the wolves that occasionally visited with his mother through the entrance. It was altogether different, and he disliked it. Fear struck him as the much larger wolf moved closer to him, but he couldn't let Danica see that he was afraid. Pelt bristling with determination he stood in the mouth of the den, making sure the stranger would have to go through him if he was even going to think of touching the little female. "Stay safe." He whispered to his sister, hoping she would keep out of harms way. Even at such a young age, he already felt a need to protect her.

Making a mental note to apologize for leaving her in the den later, he turned back to face the huge creature. Where was Ashton when he needed him? Ashton had always been the braver one, or at least Tacoma thought so. All of a sudden the wolf began speaking. What on Earth was he saying? The cub was able to pick up most of the words, though some were completely lost on him. Not to mention, who or what was this 'buddy' thing?

He was young yet, and his attention span didn't last long. He wasn't sure how many questions the stranger had asked him, or in what order. With an attempt to answer the male he nodded when asked if he could talk. Certainly he could, but whether he understood everything he said was a completely different story. "Tacoma." Was all the male was going to get in reply for a name. Understandably, Tacoma wasn't sure what the male meant by 'what does your mother call you?'. The words in that order didn't make enough sense together, and he only said his name in reply to Liam speaking his. Rather than asking what the stranger meant, he opted out of making himself look silly. After all, Danica was still there, and he didn't want her to laugh at him. The word ma'am sounded strange to his ears. It was one he had never heard before, and he had a growing desire to know what it meant. It was in his nature to wonder quietly to himself though. Maybe he would ask his mother about it later, after his siblings had already fallen asleep for the night.

RE: We can count the stars that disappear - Hollow - Jun 02, 2013

I just had to XD COULD NOT HELP MYSELF FROM TEH CUTENESS!!!
[dohtml]

There had been peace in recent time, where Hollow merely pondered where his golden beauty was, and how Liam was doing, although his duties as second kept him more or less occupied he still worried. The young male tried and tried to put his worries away but he could not shake them. the unknown twisted his heart at every turn and make him sing songs low into the night hoping she would hear. Then he would simply sigh after he waited for long moments and turn back into the shadows.

The thoughts plagued him today, though not as violently as they had been so he had gotten more done. With a few small peices of prey Hollow moved like wraith through the thicket until he came upon the den site and deposited is prey in the cache. As he raised his head the tiny squeak of a pups voice caught his attention, with a flick of an ear and turn of his black head he saw Liam, and two of the pups, just outside Nina's den.

A wave of his tail and he strode across the ground, tail wagging happily, bad thoughts banished from his mind for the moment, and made his way to the little group. "Hello Liam, I see you have met two of the pups." He addressed Liam in a friendly tone and turned to the little scraps, "Hello Tacoma, Danica, does Nina know you are out here?" A good natured gleam lighting up the green ring in his right eye, shown his good intentions. "Nina? The pups have decided to come an see the outside world at last!" He called into the den, and looked down to the pups once more absolutely beaming at the two before him.

The future of Secret Woodlands, finally in the light, ready to run amok an stretch everyone's nerves. Hollow could not be happier, for the certain headaches they would bring and all of the mischief they would get in. Koda was no where in sight which was odd unless the leading male had gone to patrol or hunt, for Koda had not often left his lady's side during her pregnancy, and especially after the birth.

RE: We can count the stars that disappear - Nina - Jun 04, 2013

I'm going to PP Ashton right now. <33

[dohtml]

She had been slumbering when Tacoma and Danica and decided to leave the den, with Ashton tucked in close to her side. Nina did not awake for quite some time that the meeting was going on outside and she was surprised when she felt small little nudges awaken her from her deep sleep. Opening her single eye, she looked down upon her second born, Ashton. Tilting her head, she looked for the familiar bundles of his two other siblings to see where they were. Her brows instantly creased and she got up from her position on the rocky ground. She felt her heart beat start to race, but it calmed down when the calming call of her soon to be Head Guardian called into the den. It was a good thing that she had her pack mates looking out for her and her children, otherwise she was not sure what she was going to do.

Nuzzling Ashton towards the light of the den, she was glad to see she could finally coax him outside, whereas Tacoma and Danica did not seem to have any problems with exploring on their own. She stiffened slightly when a slightly unfamiliar scent drifted towards her nostrils. Inhaling briefly, she relaxed slightly, not liking that a newcomer was by her children. Eyeing the new man, she stood next to all three of her children, her body towering over the trio beneath her, not letting either man near them. She was not completely comfortable with her pack mates by her children yet, not until they had at least developed their sight and hearing. Clearing her throat, she put on a kind smile to the newcomer in front of her, tilting her head to the side, "I don’t believe we have met. I am Nina Reinier." Instinctively, her tail rose high above her back and her head lifted into a high position. Perhaps her pups would get a lesson out of what she was displaying. Flicking her tail, she leaned down to lick the head of Ashton, the pup closest to her.

RE: We can count the stars that disappear - Ashton - Jun 08, 2013

Ashton's whole world was silence at the moment, sleep. He would dream of far off places, adventures with his mother, father, and siblings, though in waking life his vision was blurry and all sounds were muted, in dreams images were sharp and colorful, sounds were crisp and clear. He had not noticed for all his wonder at dreams that Tacoma and Danica were not by his side. Ashton would have been content to dream, blissfully unaware of their little adventure, but instead he found himself being prodded, by his mother's nose. "Nah!", his first squeak was a protest, not a word nor even an intended sound, just the sound his voice had made when he was initially prodded. At least it was a protest until his eyes cleared enough to see the direction they were heading, outside! So with an over excited squeak Ashton tried his very hardest not to run ahead of mother even when he could already smell Tacoma and Danica just outside.

The ground changed suddenly and Ashton was blinded by the light of the outside world as fuzzy sights made his eyes wonder endlessly and new scents begged his nose to wiggle and scent everything he could possibly scent, the little Renier then wondered at what the strange substance beneath his paws could possibly be. He liked the feel of it under his pads and fought back the urge to run into it as fast as his unsteady little legs would carry him. At least that was until he saw the outlines of not one, but two full grown wolves. One he had scented, or seen, or something, he smelled strangely familiar, not like that of his father, but familiar still. To Ashton's undeveloped eyes, the black wolf appeared to be just that, purely black, with solid blue eyes. In another odd feeling, Ashton felt as though the black one would not hurt them. But the other one had a strange scent, he smelled wild, and scary. He looked all red, like an evil wolf, and he had green green eyes, that were so green, they could have been made from the grass Ashton stood on. So the pup fixed Liam with the meanest stare his little blue eyes could muster. Which was about as intimating as a Rabbit wiggling it's nose.

Then he heard words, most of which flew right over his head while he nudged both Danica and Tacoma reassuring them both that he was indeed here with them. Then something strange happened, mother stood tall and straight, and spoke like she did when Ashton pulled on Danica or Tacoma's tail and she wanted to know who had pulled whom. Mother wanted to know something surely, but Ashton did not know what. So his ears did the best they could to move towards the two other wolves. When all at once from above his head a tongue lapped across his crown prompting yet another squeak of protest, though this one had no voice. Ashton sat up just as straight and tall as he could and waited for mother to say something else because maybe he would need to chase these two away!

RE: We can count the stars that disappear - Danica - Jun 11, 2013

Nervous excitement coursed through the tiny pup as she watched her brother move away once more, not knowing if he had heard her call from the mouth of the den. Just as she opened her blunted muzzle to call out to him again another voice spoke out. The voiced seemed so loud to her tender ears and fear pulsed to life. She could barely make out the shape of a full grown wolf with her infant vision, but it was not Mother or Father and that frightened her. So far the only wolves that she'd encountered were her siblings and her parents. This wolf was new and scary and she trembled, her unfocused eyes wide with fear as she leaned her little body backwards away from him, which caused her to almost fall on her rump when she lost her balance.

Tacoma finally came back and stood bravely between her and the stranger, looking all bristly. Relief flooded her and the tip of her miniscule tail wagged a few times before another form approached, this one even darker than the walls of their dimly lit den. His scent was vaguely familiar as he carried Mother and Father's scent and she'd dimly recalled his scent on them from time to time when they'd returned from outside the den. He was less of a stranger, but still a stranger. Now all that stood between her and these two huge unknown males was Tacoma. Their words were beyond her at this point for she was simply overwhelmed at the moment. The desire and need to call for Mother was powerful and instinct had her tipping her tiny pale head back, preparing to do just that when scrabbling came from behind her and she sucked in her breath in surprise instead.

Ashton came up the slight incline at the mouth of the den, preceding Mother only by a step or two. Her trembling slowly subsided as he came to stand with her and Tacoma, giving each of them a nudge. She gave him a tiny lick of thanks, comforted that the three of them were together again. Then Mother placed herself between them and the two strangers, looking tall and proud and fierce. Danica's mouth opened in awe as she saw the absolute authority of her mother over the others, almost as if they too were errant pups. She tipped her creamy head to the side, now more curious than afraid with her mother's familiar form hovering protectively over them.

RE: We can count the stars that disappear - Nina - Jun 15, 2013

Sorry for skipping everyone. But I want to get this thread moving. This is going to be the thread where Nina introduces the pups to everyone. @Koda, @Ashanti, @Bane, @Hollow, @Liam, @Azariah @Iopah @Tacoma, @Ashton, @Danica, and @Eva.

[dohtml]

She stood protectively over her children, motherly instinct causing her lips to curl back in a scowl. She did not want any of these males to be near her young, but she also knew that now was the time that everyone was going to have to be called. It was time for her to get out of the den and start working within the pack. She had been taken care of while she was in the den, and she hoped the same had happened with Ashanti. Watching their newest member closely, Nina raised her head and called for her pack, letting them know that now was the time that they could come and greet their new royalty, along with Ashanti’s pup if she so chose to bring him along. Bane had been the name that Hollow had told her… From what she had heard, all she had gotten was a negative vibe off of the name every time that she thought of it.

Lowering her head, she allowed her golden head to look back down upon her children who were underneath her. She was awed by the sight of the sight of her Ashton standing proud and tall beneath her, and almost immediately a course of pride shot through her. He definitely had the dominate gene within him…though she was sure that at the moment her small pup would not realize this. Danica seemed to be staring at her, trying to figure something out and all the while her little Tacoma was guarding his little sister, something that she had noticed that the little man would do quite often whenever his sister was afraid.

It gave her security knowing that all three of them would stick together and look out for each others’ backs when she was not there. It was a relief and she knew that if she was much more uptight (which she was not) she would follow her pups around all the time, making sure they did not get into trouble. Even she knew though, that if they did not get into any kind of trouble then they would not learn any kind of lessons. The only way to learn was through experience, which they would have to do on their own. If Nina followed them around all the time, she knew she would stop them from doing anything foolish, and she knew that the task would exhaust her to no ends in the process. It was not time for her to look so far into the future though, it was time for the Secret Woodlands pack to meet the new generation.

RE: We can count the stars that disappear - Iopah - Jun 17, 2013

@ghoff-- hollow meant to ask her to pickup midday patrol, I went ahead and put it in. let me know if you want it changed.
-----------------
Iopah sighed contently. Her midday patrol was finished and the late afternoon sun had steadily warmed the entire thicket. It seemed to have chased away all the lingering moisture from the recent rain showers. The pale, tawny woman shook her head in irritation, lifting a white foot to her muzzle. A tuft of fur was caught on a molar. The remnants of a squirrel she had come upon, apparently sunning it's self on their borders. While it may have been a border patrol, Iopah could not ignore a snack so naive that it was unaware of her until she was nearly upon it.

Coming to a thin rivulet of water winding through the forest, Iopah stopped. A few laps of the spring-fed water dislodged it, sending the patch of fur to join the rest of the squirrels body. Iopah's pride was not large enough that she would shy from anything nutritive. Indeed her first meal in the Lore was a lowly garter snake. Though the former lone-wolf had eaten many a meal more deplorable than that even.

As her head lifted from the clear water she had a sudden desire to see the source of the spring. It may dry up further into the summer, and Iopah wanted to be in on such a transient secret location. The uneventful patrol and luck of finding that squirrel had put in her a light-hearted mood. She was tracing the tiny stream when Nina called for her pack. Iopah tilted her head, wondering at it's meaning, dutifully her feet turned from their goal. She planned to come this way again soon. She quickly broke into a trot and within several long minutes was approaching Nina's den. The scent of their newest male was fresh. She had come to know his smell well from her patrol following immediately after his. His observable thoroughness had eased her apprehension at his sudden appearance. If Hollow had enough faith in him, Iopah had no reason to question the black male. Mixed in with these familiar and new scents was trio that brought an eager whine to her throat. Nina's pups! She had nearly forgotten.

Her knowledge of pups, particularly tolerances around the natal den was dim, dredged up from her own distant pup-hood. So, she had stayed away, preferring not to break a rule unknown to her. She offered a greeting to Hollow and nodded to Liam. Nina's defensive stance over her pups was loud. Iopah's ears folded back onto her skull, and she hesitated. Normally she would have approached, licking Nina's muzzle and placidly accepting any muzzle hold. She looked away from Nina and shuffled her feet. Something in Nina's expression today told her she'd better not come so close to her new litter. With another sigh she let her rear fall to the earth and watched the three tiny creatures under Nina.
