Karpos Slayer

until you know what's inside it

Karpos wobbled a bit as he stood, more sure of his footing then he had been in his weeks prior to it all, his birth into darkness, his step into the light, it all made him more comfortable around the place he called home. It was the moment of truth, he was ready to leave the den, being nearly a month old and not being brave enough to step out was almost embarrassing. With his eyes closed, ready to be surprised, he stepped out of the corner of the den, feeling nothing but a muggy; and weird feeling on his back. It was much warmer than it was in the cold den, he would give it that much. His princess of a sister was asleep, or at least she was, he wasn’t so sure now. Adsi was one of those pups that was fun to play with, one that would never let him down. He opened his eyes, his eyesight improving but not by much.

Karpos was shocked to see it dark and haunting almost. He was a bit scared to see a blurry shape in the distance. How could it be real? After all his ma and da went through great measures to make sure that the pups were safe and everything else was well fortified. He had barely seen his da, but that was fine, he looked forward to seeing him more when he was a bit more grown up, Karp was confident he would. He wondered why they were so lonely here. All he had ever known was the wolves that he had met; it was Capella and Adsi, Rosealia and Shade. They were his life since he knew nothing else. But he wanted to meet more than just them. He wanted to meet the whole world, and he figured that he would when the time permitted it. He had little Ken about the topic which was the world and its dangers. So he sat outside, trying to take it all in.

now we'll see what the words are worth
Since arriving to the Spectral Woods, it had taken Fenru a considerable amount of time to get used to the shadows of the forest, the sound of its inhabitants, and keeping to Ice's and Corinna's markers. Every so often while out on patrol, securing the borders, he deviated from the scent trails, and on a day like today, the young adult let his nose and his wandering feet get the best of him. Deeper into the unfamiliar grove he went and further and further away he sauntered from his parents' trail. Everything here, while very familiar to the place he called home, was suddenly all too interesting, too eye-catching.

Fenru Tainn had stopped using his nose again...

When he should have turned back around and returned to his previous activity, he stepped right past a shrub and a tree that reeked of two grown wolves, one male and one female in addition to a few other scents. What caught his attention then once the landmark had been cleared was the curious shape in the distance. Something with dark fur that was as small as a beaver or a bobcat (like the one his Uncle Marsh had caught one time). Intrigued, he came forward, stopping just a stone's throw away from a wolf cub, black as night with the brightest blue eyes he had ever seen.

He brought his forepaws to mirror one another, anchoring his tall stance to the forest floor. The immediate area around the cub now smelled... odd now that he started utilizing his olfactory senses. Having forgotten just how far he had veered away from his original route, he let out a soft bark, partially concerned that the youngster was out on his own. In a way it reminded him of himself, when Corinna would leave the den to hunt without Indru or other pack members to help keep watch over him and his siblings. Becoming all too wary of his surroundings now, he scanned the spaces between the trees, wondering if the pup had simply misplaced his pup-sitter.

Curiosity, curiosity was what controlled the young man’s mind, so when Karpos heard the small bark from the distance. He was curious, he had barely heard it, his hearing not being the best made it difficult and he could not pinpoint an area. “Who is there?” He asked out, his speech was better. Well, at least part of it was. He could say things like ‘come here’ or ‘who is there’ without getting it wrong. He loved it too, he was understood. His voice was all squeaky and high pitched. But it was improving; the small pup looked around desperately, hoping it was Capella or Shade. Perhaps maybe it was his ma, or it was his sister trying to play a prank of him. She liked to do that a whole ton of the time.

One last thought popped into his heads, it was one of those scary wolves that his da was always talking about. It was perfect; he could prove he was super strong. He was worried that this wolf would eat a little pup like himself. Karpos’ blue eyes were calm, but fear shown in them. He could see a ton better as well, knowing that his da would come to his defense is something happened. There was a hadal of knowledge that Karpos still had yet to learn about. But he knew enough to know an unknown wolf was sometimes a bad wolf. That much was, at least, a given amount of information. His eyes were widened in fear has he made out a light gray shape. He had gone closer to the wolf, hoping he/she meant no harm to a small little puppy who had a home in the woods. It was all that he really had to hope for.

now we'll see what the words are worth
“Who is there?” Fenru's gaze whipped back to the cub, his ears slicking back uncertainly. The lad must have been left behind, but at least he had the nerve to speak, to test the world with all the bravery he possessed. If anyone had shown up at the Swift River den years ago, the Tainn was certain he would have tumbled back into the den and hid behind Rihael and Kisla without even a second thought about who the stranger had been. It probably wouldn't have mattered if the stranger in question was a newly recruited member of the pack, his mother's friend, or even a gentle giant like he was now. He looked the youth over, sniffing sharply only to find that the boy seemed unharmed and undoubtedly healthy.

Though the skin about his neck prickled with apprehension, he tried his best to stay put as reasons began to fill his mind as to why his presence was absolutely sound and well-founded:

  1. The cub was on his own, outside the den, without a caretaker in sight.
  2. With the youngster being out in plain sight, Fenru's own instincts flared, urging him to protect the vulnerable youth. After all, he, himself, did not have anyone to keep an eye on him when he was about this cub's age.
  3. He was already partially prepared to tell the cub's parents off... if they ever returned.
    and
  4. If it had only taken him so long as to discover this hidden den, then apparently, this cub and his family (again, if he had one) were undoubtedly straight competition when it came to hunting grounds. Additionally, this "pack," if they could even be called that, posed a potential threat to the Oak Tree Bend wolves. After all that Swift River had endured, Fenru was simply not willing to leave the site without issuing a hefty warning or something more like an impression in which he and his family were not a pack to be reckoned with...

Once his mind had come back to the question at hand, he tried to think of how to supply the boy with an answer. His nature and the morals which coded him into the wolf he was today suggested that he ought to render himself as a Guardian of these Woods, a protector of this realm and, perhaps, an ever-watchful spirit who was @Ice Aesir's eyes and ears. On the other hand, his wariness and all other lupine instincts had him on edge - and, truthfully, it frightened him down to his very core. This cub belonged to parents and/or a pack who lived dangerously close to Oak Tree Bend; by natural tendencies alone, the Tainn should have exerted any means that declared him as a, if not the fearsome power in the area. The war he had willingly supported had apparently changed him from the inside out.

"No one is here," he gruffly replied, his tail lifting above his rump as he squared his shoulders. As hard as he tried to keep himself in check, he could not stop his upper lip from rising up to show a hint of his clenched teeth. "There is no one here..."

Karpos heard a small little voice in his head, telling him to run back to his ma and da, as they were in the den. But the voices outside of his head said no one was there. If no one was there than why was there a voice, once involving a wolf. He could hear the gruff voice faintly. "Da! Pella! Ma! Adsi!" He called out, hoping it was just one of them playing a little joke on him. It scared him, scared him out of his wits. His da would never do such a thing, neither would his ma. So it had to be Pella or Adsi. It had to be one of them {as they were the only other ones that he had met before other than his parents}. He wished Pella was here with him, she always could answer his questions when he had them. He had seen little of his da, and his ma was always sleeping.

Karpos stumbled back a little bit, it was almost as if he was retreating, but already he heard a voice in his head. He heard the voice a whole lot, so he decided that he had named it curious. But Curious was telling him not to run, but to stay put where he was. However his brain told him to run. He was confused above all else. If @Capella or @Adsila were here, he would have been strong, there was no doubt about it. His little mind raced with big ideas, ideas of fighting {though he knew nothing about it}. He looked up, a bright white ball in the sky. Or was it another color? It hurt to look at, so he looked back down. The one track minded pup was distracted again. He let his tail wag a bit.

RE: Dark Wings, Dark Words - Capella - Jun 06, 2013

Hunting was something that came relatively easy for the she wolf. Her stamina always came in handy when trying to wear out her prey. The rabbit leading the chase was already slowing down, unable to keep up it's pace. This also meant that they were likely near it's den. Running faster, the off white girl meant to lunge for the creature, but instead was hit with Karpos' voice. The little prince was calling out for her, as well as everyone else. He sounded frightened, and that was never a good sign. Worry pounded into her veins, and she turned back toward their camp. Her lost prey was forgotten as she sped through the trees.

It wasn't long before she came close enough to catch the scent of something that didn't belong. The smell should not have been there, not so near the pups at least. Panic grasped at her heart, as she wondered if she was too late. Busting through the trees she stared at the misfit near the den. He was not a part of their group or whatever they were. Dandelion eyes searched frantically for the little male who had called her, feeling relief when they fell upon him. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#5A2850;">"Come away from him Karpos." Her words held an authority that she wasn't sure she'd ever heard from herself before. He was not safe so near this male.

She could feel her hackles begin to raise, which was a completely new feeling to her. She wasn't angry at heart, nor did she usually have cause to be on the defensive. The young fae had never been in such a position before, and so her body was reacting all on it's own. Fear could probably be read clear on her face as she watched the male. Where was Adsila? Had he already gotten her? <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#5A2850;">"Where is your sister?" She asked the dark prince, not allowing her eyes to shift from the male.

<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#5A2850;">"Speech."

now we'll see what the words are worth
The next words that fled from the boy's mouth piqued his interest in the situation as a whole. How it had become so tense in a matter of seconds should have been startling, given his initial reaction to realizing that the cub and its pack posed a potential threat, but almost instantaneously, Fenru had embraced his every instinct.

"Da!" One.... "Pella!" Two. "Ma!" Three. "Adsi!" Four...

The cub cried out for four different identities, two of them undeniably being his parents: "Da" and "Ma." His lips quivered as he leaned forward towards the boy as he stumbled back. Before Fenru could even lay a paw, nose, chin or even his breath over the lad, someone else had come into secluded space around the den and demanded the cub to get away from him. Karpos. The name stuck to his memory as though it had been made of glue. He would have to remember it if the two ever came across one another again. The woman who had come to Karpos' rescue asked the boy where his sister was. It was cruel, the Tainn knew, to toy with such a delicate matter but even as the light-pelted lady continued to eye him, stare him down, Fenru could not resist in letting out menacing growl.

"If you hadn't shown up when you had," he answered in a churlish manner that was very much unlike him until a few moments ago. "She might have been gone..." A click of his teeth readily suggested that he might have gone ahead and taken both cubs if it weren't for the two chips that rested evenly on both of his shoulders. In noticing just how defensive the female had become, he mirrored her actions, his hefty adult frame easily dwarfing her medium, "yearling" physique.

His spike-tufted tail lilted to one side before righting itself to line up with his spine as it hovered over his back. "Who are you?" he demanded through his clenched jaw. "What are you doing here?"

RE: Dark Wings, Dark Words - Adsila - Jun 07, 2013

I don't judge people; it blurs out the center

Adsila Slayer

of my attention, my focus, myself

A sudden shout caused Adsila to jump up from her curled sleeping position. She whipped her head back and forth, looking for the source of the sound. When her brother's scent reached her, she calmed down a little. He was always loud and obnoxious, never caring for her sleep. But then she scented something else; like her brother, but....Different.

A small whine escaped from her maw as she looked around. Karpos was no where to be seen, but she could smell him and another. Her denim blue eyes shifted around the interior of the den, and when she saw nothing but blackness fear started to take over her. What if the other thing had taken Karpos away, and was going to take her too? Well, she would fight back and show it that no one could take her brother away from her.

Stepping uncertainly towards the entrance of the den, she took a deep breath before putting a paw across its threshold. Three more steps and she was out of the den and into the dark and gloomy forest. Her maw hung open slightly as she looked around in amazement. Even though her vision consisted of only blobs of colour, it was still amazing to know that the outside world was much more beautiful than she had anticipated.

A voice broke the young princess out of her daydream, and she turned her head to the side and caught sight of three blobs of colour. Two were bigger than the third, and she guessed that that was Karpos. The other was bigger than Karpos, and was most likely Pella. But the third was much larger and darker than her brother and Pella, and the strange scent that he carried caused her to wrinkle her nose.

The young princess heard Pella ask where she was, and stepped forward hesitantly, as her legs still couldn't function properly enough without her staggering or almost falling over. A whimper escape from her maw as the strange blob growled, before speaking. A clear suggestion that he would have taken both her and Karpos. She continued to make her way closer to Pella until she was standing almost directly underneath her belly; her body slightly hunched over as she practically curled her body around Pella's front leg. Her tail was tucked under her own belly, and a slight whimper came from her maw. She didn't like this strange blob that threatened her and her friends.

"I is right heare, Pella." Her quiet voice was easily heard during the dead silence that followed the strange wolf's words, and she cringed slightly; fearing the blob. What if it decided to hurt Pella? The young princess knew that even if she and Karpos worked together, they wouldn't be able to defend themselves from him. He was just way too big and strong for them. Her denim blue eyes shifted from Karpos to the big blob, fear showing clearly even though she tried to hide it. The strange blob just plainly scared her, and she didn't like it at all.

Karpos was afraid, until Pella arrived, then he was quite alright. He called out his answer to her calmly, or at least what he thought was calm even though his voice was shaky and hoarse considering a pup’s normal attitude. "The Den." He stated, his entire body shaking, but then Adsi heard her name from the den apparently, and so she came out. A mental face paw went on at that moment. Why did she come out of the den? He backed up a bit, knowing Pella would protect them against the scary blob in the forest ahead of them. DIGLOSSIA was the world around them, something they would know in time. Good people, bad people, people who had no choice in the way they acted, but they did not know that now. Their entire world was supposed to be safe and sound, nothing to disturb them from growing up to be strong and capable wolves.

For now, he was just afraid, as his sister was, of the stranger blob that threatened everything they ever knew. When the blob had threatened that Adsi would have been gone if Pella had not come, Karpos shouted. "You stay away!" That was all there was to it, he knew that protection was what they needed. They needed to protect each other and themselves. If that man was as evil as he was acting, then he was the enemy. His will for his sister to make it to her first birthday was strong. After all, his mind was developing and he was grasping more concepts. It was strange for him. Something he was not use to, something that he would remember. He was starting to learn of pride, and danger, and protection. Three things that his father was always telling him stories about.

RE: Dark Wings, Dark Words - Capella - Jun 15, 2013

<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#5A2850;">

Relief washed over her as the little female emerged from the den. The strange male hadn't touched a hair on her body and for that Capella was thankful. She had made it in the nick of time, but where was Shade? He had to have heard the call of his son, as she heard it from a far distance away. With her soon to be leader, she might stand a chance were this male to attack, but alone? There was no way. He towered over her, doubling her in size easily. It was also possible that he possessed skills in fighting that she did not, but for the pups she would do anything.

The stranger spoke again, his tone seemingly mocking her. This made her pelt bristle, and an anger boil in her stomach. The feeling was so unusual to her, and she hated it. This wasn't her. It was in her nature to pick out the good in everyone, but this male was making it difficult. He had threatened her new found family, and she wasn't sure she could forgive him. Then he began spouting out questions. What right did he have to know anything? None. He had no right.<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#5A2850;">"What do you mean? What business of yours is it to know anything about us?" Her tone held more malice than she had intended, and it sounded foreign on her lips.

She gave a comforting nudge to the bundles at her feet. Capella didn't wish to talk that way in front of them, but the situation called for it. They were all in danger, and there was nothing that she could do about it. She was utterly powerless, but she was going to hold her own if the situation called for it. She would only have to hold him off long enough for the pups to reach their father.
