Put the gun on the floor ~ - Ill - Jun 21, 2013 [dohtml]

Though he thought he knew where he was going, doubt still plagued Ill somewhere in his anxiety ridden mind. He was a realist, he knew exactly what he was getting into by searching unknown lands for a wolf he had never heard of. But this was the only rumor he had to go on and if he stayed out, alone, much longer, his own safely wasn't guaranteed. Though this land didn't scare him as much as the copse that lingered in the distance. In fact it reminded Ill of his own den, so far south that he could hardly remember what direction it even was, though it was better left that way. With each paw step water seeped out of the ground and soaked deep into his fur. To the young male, water was his worst enemy; he'd rather spend a day in the heat then wade through a field of disgusting still water. Never-the-less, the journey continues.
Ill had never been alone for such a period of time, let alone several months. The feeling of looking back and seeing family trailing quietly behind him, waking up under the stars to sleeping brothers, the small talk, the company; it felt like a poniard being slowly inserted into his very heart. He could never go back. Staring up at the trees, the way the branches looked frozen in a still embrace was comforting, and in a way haunting. It had been hot out in the fields when first discovering Relic-Lore; but the farther he traveled into the comfort of the woods, the more the cool air started to envelope him like a large sheet. Something else was also happening...the light source from high above that spotlighted his whole journey slowly but surely started to die.
With the sharp splish-splosh underneath to keep him company, Ill wondered if he was not alone. WORD COUNT : 315

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nuna had spent the past few days and nights hunting and gathering herbs for not only herself but Requiem as well. She had grown weary. Being a lone wolf and having to complete the jobs of many others seemed to be taking a tole on her, especially now that she was responsible for an injured wolf. As Requiem had begun to show signs of recovery, Nuna left the resting wolf for longer periods of time, she found herself admiring the mysterious yet beautiful woods, using her nose to steer her clear from pack territories. The longer she walked and explored the more tired she became. It wasn't hard to get lost and before she knew it she was leaving Spectral Woods behind. She was so desperately exhausted and lost that every sound seemed to be a predator. Her nerves were just beginning to get the best of her when she spotted another wolf. Suddenly the forest seemed to cool, the water under her numbing her soaking paws. She watched the wolf from behind cat tails and other vegetation for what seemed like forever. Though it seemed almost completely dark now the shadows dancing across his fur sent light her way causing his silvery hide to shine. So as not to startle him she slowly and quietly stepped out from her hiding place. "Who are you?" her soft voice echoed throughout the dead forest, sending a chill throughout her. How could she have been so stupid? Had she just fled her hiding place to reveal herself to an enemy? RE: Put the gun on the floor ~ - Ill - Jun 21, 2013 [dohtml]

If it wasn't for the brief pause to relief a scratch behind the ear, Ill wouldn't of heard the soft voice that called out to him from cattails somewhere from behind. He didn't know he was being followed, the young male took extra care surveying the vegetation that surrounded him every couple of minutes. Checking behind him more often then he should. So when his position had been found and he was left exposed to whatever enemy waited for him, Ill silently cursed to himself; pondering plans to turn the situation in his favor.
Before he knew was he was doing, legs leaped forward in a giant lunge, above the cool water, until finally coming to a giant splash a few feet away. Spinning sharply on his back paws, the anxious wreck of a wolf faced his foe head on...which didn't seem like a foe at all. In fact, the small female seemed more concerned about her own well-being then the weird stranger who just sent dirty water air-born, hitting everything with a surface. Soaked to the bone and extremely embarrassed, Ill asked himself quietly why that seemed like even a remotely good idea.
" I'm Ill....Grey, " he paused, swallowing a giant knot in his mouth so he could speak once more, " ...and you are?". He neither knew if she was a loner such as himself or some pack member native to these terribly soaked lands, but still met her eye to eye. He was not a threat, but he could be if he wanted too. As his honey eyes gazed over the stranger's coal colored coat, he could hear the forest slowly get quiet. WORD COUNT : 286

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - If they had made eye contact it was only breifly, Nuna quickly lowered her head showing that she was submissive and had no plans of attacking. She pawed at the soaked ground, shaking out her now sodden fur. The cool water seemed to wake her, if only a bit, from her bleary haze. "I'm Nuna Shieh," She said her voice wavering for a moment. "Are you alone?" she asked. Had she accidentally wandered into pack territory in her exhaustion or was he too a loner, bound to wander the empty woods with no one but his shadow for company. The longer she stood pondering her safety the more the feeling of danger seemed to disperse. A wave of relief washed over her and she took a step towards Ill. Her paws sunk into the mossy soil. She glanced at Ill, watching droplets of water roll off of his dark fur. RE: Put the gun on the floor ~ - Ill - Jun 21, 2013 [dohtml]

Muscles relaxing, Ill let out a sigh of hot relief realizing that she meant no harm. He hadn't met any hostile wolves since he had entered these lands, but being non-cautious would be a instant death wish. The mossy water dripped and leaked from the surrounding bark and Nuna herself, even relieved he still felt pretty embarrassed. He wished that hopefully she would forgive him for the started encounter.
" Yes I'm alone, I have be- " he stopped abruptly, not wanting to give away too much information, " -en just alone. Are you traveling alone as well? " Though she was ultimately not a threat anymore, who she knew or who followed her could be here in minutes to follow. Though fast, Ill suffered from poor direction alone and all his progress through the flooded woods would be all for lost; he would have to start over. That is if he was able to outrun her companions. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The cool wind blew around them giving Nuna the feeling that despite what Ill had said they weren't alone. She didn't know if she should trust him or not. She knew his strange disposition was caused by anxiety. She could practically smell it on him, it was almost radiating off of him in waves of sickness. But what was the anxiety caused by? "I'm not alone," she said, which seemed like an obvious lie to her. Save Requiem she was alone and with the way Requiem acted she suspected she would be completely alone soon once again. "I mean I am alone right now but..." Nuna wasn't sure how to keep her lies going. She knew that anyone who looked at her, or at least an older wolf who had been in a pack, could tell that she was a loner. If her dingy coat and thinning body didn't give her away surely her cautious propensities did. She tried not to feel so bad about her lies, surely Ill wasn't giving her his full story either, but something unknown nagged at the back of her mind. She remembered the small patch of lavender she had passed just a couple hundred feet back. "Lavender is the perfect cure for anxiety." She said her voice, still soft, sounded awkward and broken. "I saw a patch of it not too far back, I'm going to go get it, you're welcome to come with me if you wish," she said her voice finally steadying. Ill's head began to whirl. Had she been alone or not alone? Was there a stake-out; an ambush somewhere in the underbrush where she said she was going? Everyone of Ill's hairs electrified with anxiety; being in strange land with no one to rely on scared him, deeply. He must of looked like a porcupine, he thought.
" Why..should I go with you? I don't even know you! " he barked. He used the puffiness of his fur to his advantage, seeming bigger and more dominate.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She stepped back at Ill's harsh words, her paws sinking into the sodden fen. Why had he replied so harshly? She had only been trying to be kind and alleviate both of their anxieties. It was probably true that she sometimes let her helpful spirit get ahead of her, and sometimes she even let it take over. She shook it off though, it wasn't the first time an ailing wolf had snapped at her, and she knew it wouldn't be the last. "Okay," she said calmly her body and mind now fully in healing mode. She trotted slowly back to where she thought she saw the plant, Ill careful to stay in step with her. "So, why are you here? This doesn't exactly seem like the best place to make a home, especially if you're a loner." She said curiosity coating her voice like the damp still water now coated her dirty fur. They walked side by side, the air seemed friendlier now that hostilities were dulled. That still didn't get rid of Ill's paranoia about this female, or backup waiting somewhere behind the underbrush. To kill the silence, he continued to make small talk the best he could.
" I've been looking for someone, someone extremely important, " he started, " I would never live here, have you seen this place? Unless I want my fur soaked constantly or I was cousins with a trout. No I was simply just passing through by myself. I'm sorry if I scared you. " he chuckled. Thinking back now, the way he behaved when they first met made him out to look like a madman; he hoped that now she didn't get the wrong idea.
" I'm not usually alone, it's my first time actually, " he paused, " I'm sorry if I scared you, I have a little problem meeting people. I'm just too damn anxious. " The last words seemed to drawl out and burn his lips, like poison. He was so self conscious with his social problem, but telling the young female about it almost felt comfortable.
" So what about you? Why're you here alone? " he prodded. WORD COUNT : 223

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nuna sighed considering her response. Should she lie to this wolf as she already had? She assumed he had the sense to at least know that she was a lone wolf. "Well," she said her reply dragging across her lips in a long drawl,"I am a lone wolf actually," she contemplated her words admitting them seemed strange to her but she wasn't a very good liar. "After leaving my last pack I stumbled into Relic-Lore. Eventually I found myself in Spectral Woods. I found an injured wolf there and I've been tending to her for some time now. She's been healing quite well so I've been leaving her for longer periods of time lately. I'm pretty exhausted from the healing work I've been doing for the past couple of days and I'm actually not sure how I ended up here, or how to get back to Spectral Woods for that matter," At this she sighed. Would she see Requiem again? Though Requiem hadn't exactly been welcoming she was the only factor keeping Nuna from being completely alone again. She began to brood over Ill. He seemed so mysterious and erratic. Who was he? It wasn't long before Nuna had stumbled upon the lavender once again. She lowered her snout to the sweet flower, taking in its delicious scent, savoring it, before chewing a mouthful of it up and swallowing it. It wasn't long before she felt her nagging worry fade. The worry of being pack-less, the worries about finding Requiem again, even the alarm that kept sounding in her head about being alone in the forest with a stranger- they were all seemed to fade in importance until they were completely silenced. "Have some," she said her voice calm and steady once again,"It will make you feel better." |
