i’ve drowned and dreamt this moment - Ataneq - Jul 03, 2013

[dohtml]

The return was simply brutal. He was beaten, broken and angry. Angry for a multitude of reasons. His mother had ultimately abandoned him, leaving him behind without a word. Had he not been reliable enough to her? Given her everything that she had wanted her son to be? Ataneq was absolutely frustrated that his search had come up empty handed. Perhaps he had searched in the wrong direction and Siku’s trail had been distorted. All he knew was that he had failed to find her as he felt like he had failed in all aspects of his past. Nothing had kept his mother here, not even her own son.

Racing through the forest to get back to the Glen at dusk, he hoped that this was a decent time to return back home. It had been two days, he had timed it almost perfectly and would even be returning a little early so as not to get back late. Eponine said that she would be waiting for his return and he damn well hoped that she would be. He didn’t know what he would say or do when he saw her but company would likely be good for him. Being alone with your own thoughts was torture enough and all he had wanted to do since coming up short was to attack anything and everything that moved.

The journey to the Glen had ended and he sent up a howl to let Borlla know that he had arrived back to the Glen safely, with no Siku in tow. It would be a hard night to follow but he had to bare it. This was his home regardless of his mother not being a part of it.

RE: i’ve drowned and dreamt this moment - Éponine - Jul 03, 2013

Éponine had kept her mind busy with laborious tasks that left her exhausted by the time night fell so she could sleep easily and without worrying too much for her friend. When the second day had nearly come to an end she was starting to worry that Ataneq might not return, but just as dusk was falling she heard his howl rise into the air. She lifted her head, ears pressed forward to listen to his message, and found out very quick he never did find his mother. Pain struck her heart, and she felt for her friend and now she only wished to be at his side in hopes of easing that pain with her company. It was the least she could offer. She thought about turning to the cache to grab something from it to bring to him, but she was much too far, and she felt that she should just go to him.

Her black paws instantly went into action. They pounded against the ground as she raced towards the sound of the howl. Having been here for a few weeks, she hardly had to slow to know where she was going and maneuvered around obstacles with absolute and stunning ease. She pushed off the ground as a log came up in her way and cleared the fallen tree by several inches, landing with a soft thud upon the other side. Her nose twitched as she tried to draw his scent out of the air in hopes of pinpointing his exact location and with that she finally found him. His ebony fur reflected the dying rays of sunlight, and his amber eyes almost looked back at her as she pushed herself harder racing through the woods.

"Ataneq!" she panted, running up to his side and pushing her obsidian face into his fur to comfort him - or maybe it was more for comfort for herself that he actually returned. She breathed in his familiar scent before pulling away, chartreuse eyes searching for an answer. Her tail lowered, wagging slightly still because she was happy for his return. She waited, her panting the only thing making a sound in the silence around them as if the world paused, with baited breath for his answer.

RE: i’ve drowned and dreamt this moment - Ataneq - Jul 03, 2013

With every movement that he made after alerting Borlla, Phineas and Po of his return home he hoped that once his friend actually got here he might feel a bit more relaxed. His body continued to reel and his adrenaline raced, not a single answer had been found and he felt absolutely worn to the core with his anger. One would have assumed that his trip might have tired him completely but he was so worked up he could barely set his brain right.

Upon seeing Po his emotions didn’t change, he felt anger and pent up frustration. His body itched to continue moving, relinquishing the energy he had leftover and to let all of his anger out. How could she have done this? What had happened to make her do this? Although his return made him feel much better since he had friends to come back to, but he still couldn’t grasp the fact that he had come back empty handed. His mother had left, Borlla had lost a subordinate and Ataneq was left with just himself to remember his past. It also meant his future was free to mold by himself, but with his mother gone he felt that he needed to fulfill her wishes because she was.

“Come,” he ordered her immediately as she embraced him as hard as she possibly could. They needed to move away from here, to a den that he had found just outside the skirts of the pack. Ataneq simply needed her company and didn’t want any other wolf to hear him, her or anything that they spoke about or did. Ataneq felt that same monster quelling him, dwelling inside of his mind as he threatened to break. How was he to handle this? He hadn’t been prepared for this.

Éponine had thought for sure he would find her and bring her back. He had spoken so highly of his mother, and the fact she just up, left and disappeared seemed completely ridiculous to her. If there had been no sign of a struggle, and no scent to follow, then she really did leave of her own accord. Not one thought in her mind could fully comprehend a situation where that would be necessary without at least letting your son know. She hoped that one day when she had children she would never feel the need to abandon them no matter how old they got. She had grown up without her real parents because they had died, and her last memories of her past were of her dying grandmother. It had all been in vain, whatever had happened, and she wished constantly that it could have been different.

Ataneq's words were short and sweet, and she did not know how to take his reaction. He wanted her to follow him and follow him she would. If all he needed was company and quiet, then she would give that to him. If he wanted to let out his frustrations and anger upon her, then she would be his punching bag. They had only known each other a short time, but had become very quick friends. She had never had such a close friend in her life, and after only a few meetings they had grown so close and hardly left each others side. There were other wolves in the pack her age, and she only hoped when the time came to really get to know them that they would grow close to.

Ataneq had saved her that day because she was starting to whither being alone and on her own. Perhaps she would have found a pack eventually, but at that point desperation would have really set in. She was on the brink of starvation and it had taken everything not to steal a piece of the deer's hide and run for her life, but life in a pack outweighed waiting a couple more hours for one meal versus a life time of easier meals.

Chartreuse eyes locked on the male as he made his way towards where they were going - for once she was not leading them. She quickly caught up to his side, her black paws falling into stride with his. They weaved in between the magnolia trees and made their way back to the borders and skirted around them. Éponine remained so close to him that their fur brushed together as they walked, and sometimes she could not help but giving his shoulder a reassuring lick when she felt he needed it. She remained absolutely silent on their trek, waiting to see where he was taking them.

With each step that they took Ataneq felt as though he was begging the monster within him to leave. That it had no reason to be here and that he couldn’t be that part at the moment. He needed to be peaceful, calm and collected. He was in the presence of Po and he needed to be calm, for her. Teq couldn’t be aggressive, angry and spiteful to her now because of his mother’s disappearance. He didn’t want to take it out on her but he also didn’t want to be away from her. The two days had been enough and he knew he couldn’t take any more than that. Regardless of his situation he was staying here permanently. Siku might not have liked it, but her son certainly did.

The young girl followed him without question and without word, falling behind him as he moved without stopping towards his destination. He just needed to take a breather away from the pack, that was all. It wouldn’t take long more than likely, as he had Po with him who would help him get over this. To help him cope with the loss of something so serious in his life that he didn’t know how to hold back his anger and frustration. Ataneq needed this—needed to show Po that he wouldn’t leave her.

In time they finally made it to a spacious den, one that was messy and unkempt (much like himself at the moment) and he decided he had no time for her to be curious. As she began to walk slowly towards his find he harshly bumped her rump and pushed her inside as he followed suit. When inside it was nearly pitch black and more than likely the only thing that she could make out of him was the outline of his body and the very little light inside that reflected off of his amber eyes—but they were much darker now, as a monster brewed within his gut. Closing his eyes he began to focus on good things, attempting to push this creature away, not wanting to force Po into a situation that might be unsafe.

Ataneq had remained silently for most of their journey. The sun had disappeared over the horizon, and the darkness began settling in as they traveled. All that could be heard in the dusk was the soft padding of the pairs' paws upon the loamy earth below their toes. The scent of the magnolia trees and their flowers gave Éponine a little buzz as she thought about what was going to happen next. He was eerily silent, and she looked to him with concern - not for herself, but because he seemed very upset about his mother's disappearance. A frown crossed her muzzle as they slowed their pace; she spotted the den not far off in the darkness.

He moved and motioned for her to enter first, and as she slipped through the darkness of the opening of the den she could just barely make out the walls. Having only made it half way in so as to let her eyes adjust to the pitch, she felt a hard shove on her rump and she hurried the rest of herself in towards the back of the den before turning back to the obsidian male on her rear. He moved swiftly into the den as well and she could just make out his shadow against the light of the backdrop outside. His amber eyes glowed faintly in the dark, and she was unsure of what would happen next. Her heart ached for him at his loss... not at the loss of life, but the pain to his memory and how this would mentally affect him. She hardly knew him and could not be sure on how he was going to react to this.

It would be stupid to say she did not fear him, for she did, but it was not of the physical harm he could inflict on her. She had hoped he would not inflict pain on her, but his total domination of her a few days ago had excited her in such a way that she was unsure of the feelings she had felt. The lust for his power was evident enough, but there was a ache in her body she could not quell with that simple interaction. Chartreuse eyes glowed brightly in the dark as the light from the entrance reflected off them. Her body swayed in her spot as she stared back at him through the darkness waiting for his lead.

"Ataneq..." she crooned, moving towards him to breathe in his musky scent. A soft, affection growl escaped her throat at she proceeded to offer a few licks to his muzzle, wanting to draw him back farther into the den where the shadows would swallow them both up.

RE: i’ve drowned and dreamt this moment - Ataneq - Jul 03, 2013

dun dun dunnn. [dohtml]

Ataneq watched her with astute curiosity, drowning in all of his feelings and otherwise telling himself that it wasn’t worth it. He shouldn’t be upset and he shouldn’t take it out on her or anyone else. Teq even tried to force himself into thinking that something had taken her away from him but the evidence wouldn’t have added up. Siku had left him behind, no word, no hint, no trace. How was he supposed to handle this? She had been his rock for the majority of his life and now that it had been taken away from him, he felt corrupted. Like she was something that had kept this monster at bay and now that it was gone, it was loose.

Even as he looked at the chartreuse eyes of his friend he couldn’t grasp the monster back in. However, what really had him wondering what was going on was when she whispered his name, made affectionate noises at him, kissed him and then began to lure him much farther into the den. Did she even realize? Ataneq stared, almost mesmerized at her choice of actions. It was within the final transition to this other side of him with one last fleeting though—why wasn’t she scared of him?—that he decided it didn’t matter and he moved towards her, completing the change as both of their forms disappeared into the dark.

A couple hours passed and Ataneq woke up, yawned and blinked finding the darkness in the enclosure to be very welcoming. It was a settling feeling as he turned his head and noticed another form, it looked like Po. Oh… he knew. Suddenly his brain started to flash back but all he could remember was moving towards her after she had whispered his name. What had happened?

It was evident that Siku had been a major rock in Ataneq's foundation, and without her he seemed to be crumbling. Éponine had hoped she could make up for some of it and make herself available for whenever he needed her - however he needed her. It was not hard to draw the beast within him out, and as long as she had control and was not surprised by it and lured it out at her own accord, she was sure she could handle it all. Fear was something she could control as long as she knew what was coming. There was a great gap in her mind of what would come next, but instinct took over as she drew him closer to her.

She sung her sirens song, drew him in close, and after that the heat of the night took them both in its grasp. The shadows engulfed the pair, the sweet, succulent scent mixing with their own scent in the den surrounding them, hiding them away from prying eyes.

Éponine felt his body shift, and she awoke instantly thinking maybe he was going to move off and leave her. Yet, he did not budge, and neither did she as she waited to see what he would do. The darkness was welcoming to her, she enjoyed it as it engulfed her body and she disappeared within it easily even with her silver hairs catching the light. She enjoyed the peacefulness of night and it was evident that her comfort stemmed from the dark. In the light she was exposed in so many ways, the dark could hide everything, even her actions she could not take responsibility for. Her darker side took control, and she did not need to fear anything when enraptured by it.

Ebony paws remained curled up close to her chest, her muzzle shifted though, laying upon Ataneq's paws - she was curled tightly to him. Chartreuse eyes blinked open sleepily as she glanced up at the great obsidian beast reveling in his touch and his presence. "Everything okay?" she said sleepily, now become more aware and more awake as the seconds passed on. Her ears twitched forward and she looked up at him, waiting for a response as to what had disturbed him. She was unsure of what else to ask, or to further disturb his silence.

Ataneq felt replenished, refueled and his hunger had dissipated. There was stillness in the air within the den, a scent that lingered in there but he didn’t know what it was but it was comforting. It was absolutely wonderful the feeling that he felt now as though he was different but he couldn’t shake the feeling of confusion. What had happened? Looking to Po next to him, he felt the burning sensation of emotion fill him but it was of happiness. Something that he hadn’t felt in a long time but it also began to remind him that his mother was gone. She likely wouldn’t be coming back.

Her voice broke the silence that had enveloped between them and it was then he realized that she was awake. “Yes,” he answered and although he was completely unsure of what had happened after he had walked into the darkness he was okay. He felt perfectly okay besides feeling the unfortunate sadness of his mother’s disappearance. “Just frustrated that I wasn’t able to find my mother,” but the frustration he had felt before going to find her had been much worse. Now, it seemed less prominent. “Are you okay? Did I miss anything?”

After two days he felt like he didn’t remember anything besides coming up short and running back home to Po. Even as he lay there everything seemed erased but she looked as perfect as ever. As she had been waiting for him and had welcomed him back with open arms. Ataneq certainly had a rare bond with her that he appreciated. One that made him feel as though he was something stronger—like he could do anything he put his mind to.

Even though it was evident in his gaze of his confusion, Éponine did not realize he would not remember the course of the night. She was wide awake now after their few hours of sleep, and she figured it must have been close to dawn by now and pretty soon the sun would rise and reach its fingers into the darkness of the den to pull them forth from the dark and into the warmth of its rays. Sleep did not try to pull her back in and so the woman lifted her head slightly, blinking away the last remnants from her eyes.

"Of course I am okay," she whispered in the dark of the den. She was more than okay, but she did not voice her feelings then. The light stirring of butterflies in her stomach seemed to flutter back up again and she felt the heat rush to her face briefly. A small, somewhat shy smile spread over her lips as she looked up at him once again with great admiration. "I don't know what happens to you, but you have never caused me harm," she said easily, offering him a reassuring lick to his cheek. She shuffled closer to him, rolling her back against his side and pressing into him enjoying his warmth in the coolness of the den.

"Would you like to go for a hunt? Maybe we can bring something back to the main den. Our disappearance must have been noted," she said, lifting her head back up to look into his deep amber eyes, trying to read his expression. She was sure they would not have cared, he had returned after looking for his mother and that would have been enough. The pain in losing his mother should have them guessing that he would be up and out most of the night at least. It was time they showed their faces though around the pack den, and what better than to bring back a meal to the lyceum of their pack?
